    Miss/Ms Funnell, greetings from the UK. Two weeks ago after nearly five decades of denial I finally realised that I can draw, and paint! I have a technical background so I'm like a sponge soaking up all the information that I can. I came across your channel & another (WordAttack88, I think!...) that I've been binge watching. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge, honestly it's made my world a better place! With the quality of your video's I struggle to understand why you don't have many more thousand viewings. It's 1am, got work tomorrow and I'm up drawing (& painting) Unicorns for my young daughters... Thanks again. Arnie.

    Hi, I really like your style of teaching! Easily understandable and straight to the point. May you please do an oil painting 101 as well? Similar to the series on acrylics and more on watercolours? Much appreciated!

    Hi there! This was so helpful, thank you so much for sharing! Do you have a video on materials for beginners? Since I am new to painting, I really don't want to spend a TON but I also want to get decent quality materials!

      Thank you Karly!! I am actually working on that video this week, so be on the look out. I'm going to include everything I purchase for my high school drawing and painting students (levels 1-3) that is both quality and affordable!! Many of these materials I use on a regular basis on my art too.

    Great tips, thank you! I'm just starting out and have only completed two small paintings, and then I learned about the ground.
    I Find the blank canvas inspiring. I'm wondering how I can get past staring at a color that has nothing to do with what I'm painting? I feel like it's going to be terribly distracting and throw me off.

    • @ciaraskeleton

      This is a year old comment, I'm sure you've found a technique by now! But this is something I struggled with too. They say use burnt sienna or other reddish tones and those don't work for me.
      The best thing to do, is paint your canvas with an extremely diluted version of the opposite colour to the colour that you will be using, the complimentary colour.
      If you're not sure what the opposite colour is, Google and reference a colour wheel! Cause it's so hard to know off the top of your head fr! So for example: I'm painting a peach tree, so my canvas was painted cool blue grey. I mixed a touch of cool blue and black with lots of white. This makes my peach, orange and yellow stand out like crazy!
      It doesn't have to be a bright, pigmented colour, it can be a very tiny touch of the complimentary colour and lots of white. Whatever works best for you, DO IT!
      If you love a white canvas, paint on a white canvas! Lots of artists find a blank white canvas overwhelming, but if you don't, that's awesome and you don't need to change ❤
      Art is art is art. At the end of the day, you are an artist and you should trust your own artistic vision and choices ❤

    I remember when I took my one and only acrylic painting class I noticed the instructor dipped her brush in water before working on her painting. The problem is I can't recall if she dipped her brush in the water before picking up the paint on it or did she scoop up some paint and then dip the brush in the water?? Thanks1

  • @Lilu468

    Love the video but please please PLEASE DO NOT empty your water in the sink. ALL colors-even water soluble mediums are toxic for the environment and shouldn’t be poured out through our water systems damaging our water and in extents animals. When you paint, especially if you do it a lot, you should save the water in a can or bucket, throw in some bauxite powder and then filtrate the water through a coffee filter, the filtered water is now cleansed and can be poured out (unless you use cadmium colors) and the color residue in the filter can be thrown away in the trash
    The same goes for WATERCOLORS. Many doesn’t realize this, so pls artists of RUclips, pls be more careful of the environment.❣️🌿

      It establishes a middle value and a ground for you to layer your paint on. And you don't have to, but it makes a difference! Paint is meant to be layered.

    Can the wash be color white???

    • @JenniferFunnellArt
      @JenniferFunnellArt  3 года назад +1

      White would set a ground for painting but it wouldn't give you a middle ground like a color would.

    Acrylics shouldn't be put down the sink - it can clog the pipes and it's bad for the environment

    • @aliciagroth9406
      @aliciagroth9406 3 года назад

      I use cheap paint, cheap brushes, cheap canvas boards. Just create! ❤️ then someday you can slowly add more expensive things as you find what’s important to you and how you create.

    Honestly i thing those tips are great but never i say never mix water and acrylic together its not how acrylics work.

    • @JenniferFunnellArt
      @JenniferFunnellArt  3 года назад +3

      you actually can mix water into acrylic, as long as it's not too much to break down the binder. Water and oil paints don't mix.

    • @noname-gm9kz

      @@JenniferFunnellArt i was talking about blending because when you blend with acrylic and water then you just get strokes but i little bit of water is ok i think :)
