« he is learking, waiting to catch yo a$$ » is the most accurate description I’ve heard yet of that section 😂

Ah, the Gaspard. One of Ravel’s finest. This movement in particular is stupidly difficult too.
I suggest Scriabin’s Lè Poème de l’extase or 5th (or maybe 6th if you’re feeling spooky) Piano Sonata.

My favorite movement, fascinated me a lot at time when I wasn’t a classical music lover. This is really impressive, the way you can do something frightening like this only with the piano.

Creepy music is important. Joyous music as well. Art should reflect or fear as well as our hopes. I do think that's what art does best. Scarbo is one of our best Halloween accompaniments ever written!

Your reaction kind of reminds me of how Scriabin fears his own sixth sonata, feeling that it was “nightmarish, murky, unclean and mischievous”. Like, playing it would summon lovecraftian ghouls nearby because it was so possessed by demonic evils.

Pogorelich did a wonderful job. But for this piece, and many others, I think Argerich reigns supreme. If you listen to her Scarbo it sounds like the whole orchestra is playing; the piano is shaking and it sounds like it’s from a different planet. Truly outstanding!

Ravel is an interesting guy I don’t know if you heard his string quartet but it’s my favourite ravel piece 🙃

Amazing reaction! Don't know how much truth this holds, but it's known that Ravel supposedly composed Scarbo just to be harder than Balakirev's Islamey, which was known to be the hardest piece at the time lol. Man really said let's make smth harder than the hardest piece ever. And thus, Scarbo remains to popularly be the "hardest" peice of solo piano music to date ((:
    P. S. You should definitely react to Islamey, it's a joy to listen to

I actually recommend against seeing the score on first listening, as it anticipates the experience and I think diminishes it…I remember “blind” listening to this piece (first time) when I was driving at night through a dense forest near where Iive, where you can spend almost an hour without any car going by, and I felt viscerally immersed in it..to the point where I stopped my car on the side of the road, turned of all the lights, in the last movement, and it made me deeply uncomfortable and anxious…felt like I was in danger, so I got the fuck out of there 😅
