The more I learn about the ulster plantation, the more it explains the attitudes and experiences of the scots Irish in the Americas. The lack of a historical narrative, family life, conflicts with religion; even their love of beards!! A fascinating people

@@MrSchizoid405wth are u talking about. What a vague weird statement. Are u saying the scots irish/Ulster Scots weren't a real thing? So how did I get here. I've done my geneology old chap. My ppl came from Scotland an Ulster. As well as England an Wales, but mostly Scotland an Ulster. So what exactly are ye trying to say? We're we here all along? Are we not really here now? Did we sprout from the ground? I look forward to your reply.

Thankfully the Gaels and nationalist population have survived and thrived and now outnumber the Unionist/ British population descendents of the orginal planter population what does this change mean going forward into the 21st century post Brexit?

Not that simple I'm afraid Sandra. Many Roman Catholics are in fact closet Unionists. They may well vote Sinn Fein in an election but ask them about reunification & many will state that they are better off in the UK - cheaper prices, NHS, well paid UK civil service jobs.
They can identify as Irish or British & hold both EU & UK passports. It's a no brainer to stay in the UK - the republic won't be a cash cow like the UK is.

The Scottish planters were far more advanced than the native Irish. They were way ahead of their time in farming methods & agricultural knowhow.
