    Took until Thanksgiving to get snow here in Northern MI, crazy warm and mild weather for almost all our rifle season 11/15 - 11/30. Snow for 28, 29 and 30. Was extremely slow for all of deer season including bow season all of October

    Luv hunting in the rain. Not a wind blown sideways rain but a steady rain or light rain I luv!!!! Seems during the rut the bucks move a ton during the rain. Killin day as it hides a lot of noise and allows you to get close without being noticed.

    Your dad has been having a banner year, plenty of meat in the freezer now!!!!! We just got back from our annual deer camp. After watching you boys out in Maine we started weighing our bucks a few years ago. It’s quite interesting, an average 3 year old buck will be around 150#. One of my sons got a five plus year old buck this year that went 180 pounds. That’s the biggest one we have taken since we started weighing them. There could be a two hundred pounder lurking out here in MT but we haven’t found him yet.

    • @MaineOutdoorEnthusiast
      @MaineOutdoorEnthusiast  Месяц назад

      He's had a great year! My freezer has been the "overflow" freezer...I'm not complaining😁! Hope you guys had fantastic trip! That's cool you guys are weighing your deer. In Maine, weight has traditionally been the "trophy benchmark"...that coveted 200+lb buck. Most certainly because Maine deer tend not to have huge racks. It's pretty common for a big heavy 250+ lb buck to have an unimpressionable rack. Northern Maine is known for big bodied deer. I suppose the Bergmann's rule holds true- colder climates produce bigger bodies. There is even a noticeable difference between deer shot in southern Maine vs Northern Maine.

    Maine is always hard to hunt. Big woods and low deer densities. I’ve been hunting there since 1988, usually for 3 days. Our success rate is pretty low but we always have a great time at the camp.

    • @MaineOutdoorEnthusiast
      @MaineOutdoorEnthusiast  Месяц назад +1

      That's for sure. I've had some really fun hunts in the big woods too, but it's definitely a different type of hunting! However, we always have a good time. That's a given!

    That is a brute! Have they always been typically that heavy? It seems to me that the average overall size of a white tailed deer here in pa. Has diminished slightly since I started hunting in the early 1980’s . We still harvest a brute now and again though.

    • @MaineOutdoorEnthusiast
      @MaineOutdoorEnthusiast  Месяц назад +1

      I'm not going to say 200+lbs bucks are everywhere up here, but we definitley have enough that some guys can harvest one over 200 about every year.
