- Blackmagic has just released the new ATEM Television Studio HD8 and HD8 ISO PLUS two new cameras, the Studio Camera 6K PRO and Studio Camera 4K Pro G2. I'm taking a look at all their new features and giving my thoughts to the latest ATEM and Camera update from Blackmagic.

thats really bad, the new atem NOT having 4k SDI. a huge disappoint which makes be loose trust in them
@@MeinVideoStudio I don't think so, because if they did they would likely have kept the PTZ joystick from the 1 M/E Panel on the Television Studio HD8. A box camera is highly likely though.
@@Thibal why would they when you can Controlit via 3 Nobs as well....
I know 1 ajoystick will be better but black magic knows how to sell you stuff and using a Speededitor styled Joystick would be a great cash grab.
I'm still waiting the 4k version of this switchers.
I buyed last year a set of studio cameras, and it's very important to have a portable all in one switcher, because we use for small and medium productions, but also big events.
I wish this ATEM went up to 4-6K resolution, not just HD.
I'm pretty sure we'll see an ATEM TVS 4K 8 or 16 input model within a year
@@AlexPettitt We need a cheap Atem Mini with 4k.
The Problem with 4K streaming is that you can't stream to anywhere except to youtube which most of the time isn't the ideal choice for business related livestreams. That's why they don't bother about 4K live streaming except in their high end lineup.
@@klugermensch5933 That make sense. But I want to use the Atem also for non-livestteam stuff to be able to switch during recordings camera angles with different cameras. I want to record these projects in 4k directly in real time as an ISO file to streamline my workflow and have less work to do. For this I need 4k. For livestreams I am happy to switch then to 1080p. But I need the option of 4k for the other stuff.
@@dirk.4711 yeah that would be super handy. In a video I've seen about the ATEM ISO it said that you could save the edited project to import in Davinci Resolve and with one click you can replace the recorded low quality iso-files with the cameras internally recorded high quality video files, braw for that matter. So then you have the already edited multicam timeline with the raw video footage. To me that seems quite perfect, because even in the future a ATEM could never record raw video
Great review as always. I recently built up a nice 2 M/E Constellation HD flypack and have considered the ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel 10 to control everything. It's crazy to me that this new item that does WAY more costs less than that Advanced Panel. I hope/wish they release firmware that will allow this new product to act as a panel to control the Constellations. That would be pretty slick with the bonus of being a great backup system. Looking through a lot of comments on other social channels - I seem to be one of the very few that is actually excited by the 6k EF camera. As soon as he said it had NDs I'll be getting a few. We use URSA G2s currently but these new cameras are going to make setup and operating much easier (I hope) for all the livestream gigs we do. Running 1 150' Cat 6 cable for POE power and video feeds both ways seems much easier than running power cords and 2 spools of 150' SDI cable. We do a lot of outside work so the NDs were a deal breaker on the there ones - plus we have a lot of EF glass already.

Even just a couple of HDMI inputs would make this so much more useable for a lot of people, it's a strange omission.
this may be the reason I DON'T buy one. It should have at least 2 HDMI input for laptops, lower-third sources etc. Horrible miss from BMD. I am tired of using their converters. It's more power, more wires etc. Makes a mess of the production table.

I’m curious if timecode will go over the Ethernet from the studio converter now? Had to still run an sdi return on the last studio cams
we are using the former Television Studio HD and planning to get Atem Mini Extreme for the Super Source + recording/stream ability. Now this will be interesting, the extra Aux out, the XLR audio and sharing of external disk over local network (i assume need to be turned on?) and internet is making me re-consider options.
Absolutely! I think this would be a fantastic upgrade from your existing TVS. And yes, the unit does need to be on to access the files over the network
I sure wish the ATEM SDI had an HDMI out for multiview.
I think that was one of the user feedbacks they really considered and why they implemented it in this new TVS HD8
I was just about to pull the trigger on the Studio Camera 4K yesterday. I now need more time to process my options, haha. I am still leaning towards getting the 4K G2 as the lens options are more affordable. There are some nice servo lenses for the 6k EF mount, but the cheapest one I see is nearly twice the price of the camera itself.
I think the 4K G2 is a fantastic buy now, especially at the same price point :)
Do you know if the Wooden Mini Tripod stand (as shown in both the 4k and 6k) are commercially available?...loved the portability for where a conventional tripod won't fit.
2 years ago, on your Atem Extreme video -- you highlighted Grant's statement "It has GB Ethernet built in, we're going to be able to use that for a few things in the future as well"
Nearly 700 days later, you need a $4000 switcher + $2500 super 35 camera, to use that tech.
If you want 1 Cable with POE, another $1000 converter...
1080p and H264....
I would have upgraded for 4K ISO onto 1 SSD --- or even a 4 Camera POE + Data Switcher.
This feels like a stop-gap until we get closer to Christmas.
a "DLC" update, but $$$$$ for hardware that's essentially recycled.
This network source feature should be standard for all Switchers with GB ethernet, and require the new cameras. Or visa versa, but not both.
Might just take the leap for the Sony FR7 and get Full-Frame and real NDI that doesn't require a $1000 converter.
I totally get this comment. I too was hoping by now they might have explore and implemented more of a holistic workflow over ethernet... I guess it just takes time. But I feel it's progressing!
@@AlexPettitt just a rant -- but, they turn off RUclips comments... and then make comments like "I've got no idea how it will be used, but its a lot of fun" just seems like they are out of touch with the "prosumer" users.

Love the footage and codecs and davini, but really disappointed that they aren't listening to the market. I truly think BirdDog could be a box camera + somy sensor away from pulling people out of this Double SDI Cable (or 1k converter) ecosystem.
But really appreciate your deep dive, I did learn and look at things differently. Im glad to see some improvements like providing an HDMI out on their ATEM Switcher 🙃
In my opinion, on the HD8, instead of the Blackmagicdesign logo, there could be room for an LCD on the right side, even if it's not high resolution, and something like a preview or program could be displayed there.

I love the ATVS HD8. Have Extreme ISO but hardly use it the ISO option. Would have been nice to see ATVS HD 8 4K. Need to dispose my Mini Pro and 2 Mini Extreme. Looks cool with the 6k pro
I think also that mixed inputs like sdi and hdmi is way more practical from user standpoint. These excuses not to add them a ridiculous. Add mixed inputs with scalers and cripple the audio part - usally audio is separated anyway . Suggestions for blackmagic :)

Great video! I’ve noticed when connecting the 6K Studio Camera to the Atem 4k8 Television via Ethernet only , the shutter speed / angel and other exposure settings keep changing as the Atem has somekind of auto mode (I would set 180 degrees shutter angle and will change to 216), any idea how to solve? Thanks!

I just bought 2x Studio Camera 4k pro cameras, yesterday! But, looking at the differences between the G2 and the 4k Pro, there is not that much difference at least for us. I saw this announcement today was like no way. But this was purchased for my A/V department at the college where I work so we have to spend the money by the end of the year anyways!
The main differences of the G2 are things like the built in streaming and ND filters. The original is still a fantastic camera and no doubt you'll love using them!

Is it possible to exclusively connect your (10Gb Ethernet enabled) studio camera to your high speed LAN switch/router and the atem would recognize the camera and video stream from the LAN (with no other connections to your camera)??
I was expecting that BMD will add some features in their switchers like physical knobs control with audio meters for XLR audio input and HDMI out in their switchers but no luck BMD forces people to buy their converters as well. This sucks the portability of the product.
1935 port suggests that the remote camera signal is the regular RTSP stream?
With the Blackmagic studio 6k pro... it dosnt allow you to go to 1080p only 4k ect... can you edit this with the atem and swap over from 4k to 1080p?

I feel like the studio cameras are meant to be used with the Focus/Zoom Demands, however there don't seem to be EF lenses to support this.
Both MTF and now EF Studio cameras have this problem, but it is really apparent on the 6K model.
well there are some canon cine lenses that support motorized zooming via the ef mount. The cne 18-80 and 70-200 for example
Hi I have a question on 4k pro G2 and 6k pro studio camera. BMD released the network dock products, which can record via ethernet straight from hyperdecks. My question is can you do the same via the ethernet port on these studio cameras?
in 6k model will focus and zoom demand works with all EF lenses?
Does it mean that new BMSC 6k PRO with EF-mount can auto-focus if Canon lens are used? Or can it only accommodate ef-lens without adapter but without auto focus capability?

I have the ATEM Extreme SDI and while the HD8 looks good, I'd really want mix minus options from the audio and a couple of HDMI inputs instead of having to use converters from laptops. As for the cameras, I was surprised he said everyone asked for an EF mount, when to me it's really the B4 mount that would make all the difference. I'm not sure if the remote camera thing is feasible right now, given the delay from streaming. If you could use it with a Streambridge the other end, them it might be useful, but I don't generally find a use case for a remote camera. Hybrid and live meetings which need recording and sometimes streaming are mostly what I currently see as demand in the corporate world, which is where I mainly operate.
People are asking for more than 1 hdmi out and input… I believe with the Madi interface u may be able to achieve mix minus of course u have to buy a separate interface… bm tradition
totally agree - the HD8 should have at least 2 HDMI inputs for laptops etc. Huge miss by BM. I hate a table full of convertors, wires and power supplies.
Do other atem models have built in streaming bridges?
Alex I read on black magic website that only the newer studio and 6k camera can only use the iso with davinci. So my question is can you use the pocket 4k to swap out your raw files with the iso in davinci.
These can still be edited to 6k though? Super source available on this one?
I would like to upgrade from an mini STI extreme but it's not really that much of an upgrade unless you need the extra features 4K would be an upgrade

hi Alex you are my only source of Blackmagic products updates, wondering can the media player finally play video instead of just static images? (i also saw now it can GRAB still! former Television Studio unable to do so)
Hey Cheer, unfortunately not. The media players are still limited to images and image sequences on this new model. It's one of the things I wish it had too... then it trying would be an all in one production panel!
It is possible to sync multiple remote cameras but there is a latency of codec, a latency of transmission, and a latency of decoding. So it’s not possible to have frame accurate sync with a studio camera unless you buffer and delay all local inputs to match the worst case remote camera. Of course multiple remote cameras might have different latencies as well. It’s doable but there’s no straightforward answer; sometimes we may want the remote cameras to be aired as soon as possible. And there are other solutions when cameras in the same room need to be transmitted wirelessly with less delay than the encoding to H264 and going over the internet. When you constrain the transmission path to a defined network (eg Ethernet) then it would make sense to have sync support. But if for example one of the cameras drops a few packets over a bad mobile network what should happen to a local camera over SDI?
@25:15 You mention potential multicam remote sync issues? Have you followed up on this and found anything else out? I would love to see if this works.
Currently in a testing phase now. Over LAN the signs are good. Doing more testing over public internet over the coming weeks :) Will report all in a video soon 👍

No, sadly not. NDI is not supported by BMD... and likely never will be :(
It is great to see that the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro G2 and 6K Pro models can remotely live stream over the internet to the ATEM Televison Studio HD8, but can these camera stream in this way to an ATEM Extreme and can an ATEM Extreme strem to ATEM Televison Studio HD8?
These camera’s can stream to an ATEM Mini Extreme yes, but you need to by a ATEM streaming bridge to receive the signal in your Extreme. As for sending a feed from an ATEM Extreme to the TVS HD8, yes that is possible too. :)
@@AlexPettitt But you only get the return feed and the control features when connecting directly between the new cameras and the TVS HD8, right? But all the same this streaming is a compelling extra feature for the BlackMagic ecosystem
Please advise that the 4K Pro G2 does NOT have in-built ND filters, only the 6K Pro does.
I assume the internet cameras must be avail for multi cam. Did you ever confirm?

I got excited when I saw the title.... Thought there would be an Atem Mini 4k or 6k. 1080p is limiting for me and I have a long workaround workflow to make my 1080p atem footage into 4k since I don't shoot with BM cameras. This is too much gear for my podcast needs. 🥲Looks great thought maybe if the podcast blows up and I need a full on professional studio instead of my little studio. Come on BM...
Blackmagic Design states in the manual that the transition type button marked ARM is currently disabled and will be enabled in a future update. Do you have any thoughts/rumours about what this can do in the future?
I didn't even notice that. ARM is definitely a new one to me :) I'll try to do some digging to find out what it's going to be.
I see a button labelled “Macro” I want to see how that works. If I can’t replace my laptop and Streamdeck then the big panel doesn’t help much. Gutted that it’s bigger than a 19” rack too. Typical BMD, amazing features, and great prices, but with quirky omissions. And like everyone, give us a couple of HDMI’s, even switchable (SDI or HDMI) ones like Roland do.
Did anybody see a definitive specification as to if the new Studio Pro cameras can stream directly to the Streaming Bridge or if that is only available on the new ATEM TVS HD8 ISO?
It can stream to an ATEM Streaming Bridge yes :)
Now you can choose between a control panel or a complete switcher with control panel for the same price. They need to bring down the price of the panel IMHO.
Does anyone know if the ISO footage is 8 or 10bit? 4:2:2 or 4:2:0?

Good question! I believe streaming is output at 1080p only, but I will try to get confirmation of that!
Would be interesting if the ethernet ports worked with the Lumix BGH1's and had POE+ and then the only cable needed to the BGH1's was ethernet.

I thought the announcement was disappointing.
I still have mixed feeling about it. There were some thing which showed great potential and got me excited. But other parts I was less bothered about. EG all the audio control are a nice to have...but definitely wouldn't convince me to go and buy the TVS HD8 as I can do everything in software anyway. But the Remote Camera feature...that I love the idea of and am keen to try.
@@AlexPettitt That's what got my attention the most, too! I'd love to have that feature in modular products, so that bringing in remote guests would be easier overall, even without having to get the Television Studio! If two-way communication works with the Streaming Bridge as well, it might just be enough reason to consider getting one of those cameras.
I get that the majority of people who will be using this for streaming and broadcast purposes don’t need it to be 4K but that bugs me. It’s 2023, cameras are now 8K and even 12K capable, and we aren’t able to get the most out of our hardware where the inputs of systems like these are so limited. While it’s unlikely you’d stream in 4K, having the ability to receive the 4K signal and ISO capture it for later would be amazing. Even if it down res’ed it to 1080 for streaming, I’d be fine with that. But not being able to capture 4K quality for iso recording is a bit limiting. Just my thoughts…
Perfect occasion to introduce a clip player in this device, for say replays and other video's... but no...

The 2 new switchers have many professional features that have only been seen on the newer MINI ATEMs the prices are very good for a fully integrated 1 ME switcher in a console configuration, New studio cameras yes, The 6K camera is a good idea but what about a camera with an 20x integrated lens this would sell more cameras & open up the marker to newer players that want to enter the Multicam market, A 1 stop shop solution BMD ecosystem, All if you want is a few cameras & a switcher to make up a small studio or an outside broadcast for sport or even religious events, Who knows what lens to buy & what price are you prepared to pay a lot of research just for some lenses. It's like buying a motor car but with no wheels, You need to find out what size wheels brands & tyres will be compatible & give you the performance you want. Sure if you have the budget to go out & buy a number of lenses or you know what you want that's fine, Why BMD doesn't offer an overall budget full servo lens or even offer a camera with integrated lens like a camcorder studio camera is beyond me , There is no camcorder that offers half the features that BMD can offer, Canon have a few model camcorders that can be controlled with an external Camera Control Unit such as the RC-V100 & the cameras offer HD SDI video out but there's no tally light, intercom or long cable connection.
They took ATEM 1 M/E advanced panel + ATEM 1 M/E constellation HD +Web presenter+ Recorder.... imagine next time 2O INPUT with 2 M/E constellation4k + 2 M/E advanced panel IN 4k !!!
An new pricy HD only switcher with SDI? I dont really get it. Is there someone out there who works with HD SDI and had a need for this switcher?
I thought we all landed at 4k productions in 2023.
It might still be a place for it in the line up. Since it has the streaming feature built in, it can be aimed at the kind of prosumers that mostly stream and don't really produce the shows that need a 4K resolution. But yeah, their 4K line up is indeed in need of some attention and expansion!

I think same reason, because it's not allowed to send an RTMP signal to Streaming Bridge. Only from ATEM Mini devices.
