FULL GenCon 2010 DND Celebrity Game

- NOTE: Best watched on a computer
Chris Perkins takes Ed Greenwood, Larry Elmore, and R.A. Salvatore, along with three volunteers from the convention audience, on a bonus encounter design to play after the Red Box. Roguish antics, frogs with fear auras and attempts to use Diplomacy on skeletons are some of the many comic gems from this event.
Besides splicing together the seven RUclips episodes into one, and adding just a few tangents, my main work was on the audio, making whisper audible and ironing out volume spikes as the crowd laughed, I hope you enjoy the result :

It was fantastic to be there and watch this game. My Hubby (sitting next to Ed Greenwood) was lucky to get one of the thumbs up and got to play. It was a brilliant time.
i wish i could of flown to USA to see this, i felt sorry for your husband being left to fight the minions on his own at end lol.. but did look like fun :)
He had a blast!
i bet he did bless him :).. i might hvae to come to USA one day from the uk to go watch chris perkins
It would worth the trip!
nice!!! he looked like he was having a blast! (as did all of them)
One minute in, I'm just staring at Ed Greenwood's beard, thinking to myself "If this man is not playing a wizard, I give up. I just... give up."
At 0:1:50, Greenwood: "I am Flarm Ormantel. I am an elf wizard."
And all is well.
Elves have beards?
They do. Even in their "origin story" Silmarillion. Not all or many of them, but they can choose to have one. But then again Tolkien also was quite enraged by their supposed androgynous appearance the "70 hippies" gave them in images.
He thought of his elves as very handsome, striking lads with the strengths of several human men - hence him describing several times that an elf has the strength of a young tree and their bows being impossibly strong for a human to draw. So the whole elves as wimpy girly looking dudes is not really... tolkienesque at all.
What would be really epic is if the party got in way, way, way over their heads and Ed was like: *bamf*
"What kind of of plight have ye found yerselves in"
*draws from magical floating pipe*
"Greetings young heroes, I am Elminster Aumar, a man of trifling importance and today I will be thy savior."
Appears a great time was had by all. Great to see these legends still enjoying the hobby. Thanks for putting these all together!
I really enjoyed how Salvatore and the older gentlemen interacted with each other.
Greenwood and salvatore are amazing writers and really good friends.
Chris - 0-level hair, RA - 1st level hair, Larry - 2nd level hair, Ed - 20th level hair.

The guy playing the paladin is awesome.
dude i would love to play in one game with ed,bob and larry that would be amazing
no one got to betray the party :(
4:46 The axe should have obviously been named the "Mother in Law".
OMFG 2 of my favorite authors AND Chris Perkins DMing......I'm in Nerdvana
Thanks for making the effort to edit together
I honestly think Chris Perkins should have how own show and do this sort of game once a week :), i think it would get more people into DnD and plus i love watching him. Seen this episode about 20 times and still not bored,
Wow 5 years ago have flown by since I made this comment
WOW! I've been deep diving back into D&D recently after 25 years. Larry Elmore was always one of my favorites for staff Artists at then TSR. Dragonlance, with the Art of Elmor, Easley, Caldwell, and Parkinson made my visual introduction into role playing a life long passion. I had a long dry spell, but never lost my love for it. More importantly, they inspired me to become an Illustrator, particular to Fantasy. You probably won't read this, but thanks for posting. 🖖😁🤘🇨🇦
Thanks for giving it a look ❤️
XD ed works at the library in my town and its so confusing to see him in this
What town is that? I wanna move there.
+The Demonic Shy Guy Ed seems like the guy you would find working in your local public library.
Man, that's awesome!
09:33 - There is no alignment like the Lawful Stupid alignment.
Some amazing talent at this table
Ok maybe im being ignorant but......Their fighting skeletons and an undead warrior right? The have a cleric in their party right? Ummmmmm TURN UNDEAD?!?!?!?! HELLO?????
The Paladin was great :) cracked me up
This is pretty much how real live games go down... a bit campy, some good ideas, a lot of half-finished ideas, mainly just people having fun.
Thanks for the audio work out into this upload, great game i want to try dnd so badly
That's what I've heard, it's just that my friends wouldn't be interested in playing so I have no one to learn/try it with
Scimitar 95 If you're having trouble finding a game, check out roll20 website. They have an lfg section and it works pretty well for having an online game
I love this so so much.
never knew this existed until today. thanks for posting.
Legends from a bygone age.
this DM is really good! would love to play in one of his games
i love the paladin. i think he was really funny and made the game more fun, but the guy on his right was mean. and then dm too
Some might say the Forgotten Realms are a pretty mean place. Guess now we know why lol. I'm sure at least some of it was RP.
It was all in good nature I believe.
I've grown up with a few people in my life like the one you thought was mean, he's all good :)
suncu91 That was R.A. Salvatore. Creator of Drizzt, probably the most recognizable character in any dnd based fiction. I have a hard time reading him as well...He seems like the kind of guy that tends to make everyone in the room just a little bit more uncomfortable. I get the feeling that it's not necessarily by accident.
I know I'm late, but to be fair he was playing a rogue.
This is AMAZING!
That was also where I thought he was going with the stalactite reference. Great company to be a member of.
Well, I imagine the stalagtite from the comic is probably a shoutout to the book in turn. I just hadn't read The Crystal Shard yet. I'll put it on my list.
The comic is awesome, btw.
I love the fact that a guy picked from the audience decided on a rp characteristic for a pregen he has just picked up n stuck with it
We had to talk about/do something when we woke up before the fresh batch of booze kicked in. It was more informal character development back story, but still it was fun as hell.
I just tried to play this video on iPhone.. I don't know what I did to it, but the framerate is terrible. I won't make that mistake later on, but for now please try to watch this on a computer
Considering the DM, Chris Perkins, works for Wizards of the Coast, and does this at convention after convention, I think it takes more guts to actually be a player at his table :)
The whole video is a single white screen as I am blinded by the dazzling gleam emitted by this gorgeous bald head of his.
I knowits 10 years ago but RA Salvatore was younger than I imagined
I just found out this video was posted, but I am the woman who got to join in DMing around the 53-minute mark. This was such a great time, and I still have their signed character sheets.
I find it funny hearing Larry Elmore. His accent sounds so different (Texan?) to how I expected. 😀 The Medieval Texan adventurer! 😀
Ah, thank you :) I used to a different file type for this video, and for some reason it has a very low framerate on my iphone 4S, maybe I just need to upgrade.
I think the Paladin was the best part of this whole game!
does anyone remember a game where Chris Perkins DM'd for a group of people to showcase an early look at D&D Next back before it was released? I can't find the video anymore it involved a drow named Minchab I can't remember much else besides parts of it being in sunken sections of Waterdeep.
This is a very long game to be played. But to play it proper, you need a Chris Perkins as your DM, otherwise it's not as fun :P
The lady who came up might be a better DM! GIVE HER A JOB WoC!!!
I just love that every party member is piss off by the Paladin.
That end comment about dropping a stalagtite on a dragon to kill it also could have been referencing Salvatores 1988 book "the crystal shard" the same book that he introduced the world to his most famous character drizzt do'urden, arguably one of if not, the most recognizable dnd character. He and his companion at the time, wulfgar, did just that to kill a white dragon.
has no one heard of turning undead with a paladin or a cleric? the skeletons could have been incapacitated on the first round of combat.
Bob is my hero
Living Legends playing D&D!
You can crit undead in that version?
This seems like A LOT of fun. How would I go about finding people locally to play with?
Meetup.com I'd recommend. Or just google DnD meetup, club or any of that sorts.
Thanks, Melanie.
roll20.net is the BEST
Ahna Elledge looks cool. Is it free?
Yes
why salvatore not look like in the mood in the beginning?
Everyone is really pissed at paladin dude!!!
Who let the jocks out?
I got started with the Red Box ... gave me last three dice from that box to Matt Mercer ... :) Btw the first Red Box not the remake ...
one of my favorite line is "I'm bring flanked... by a toad!"
...everyone is a hero in their own story, so do the skeletons and minions get an extra action point?
DM is one good lookin fella
thanks blackfoot :') always the man to go to
Yeah, have the party split their bluff/diplomacy rolls. Different party members focus on one head(DM) and get them to fight each other.
i can't find a red box for sale
i really want the game but the only one i can find is $120 on amazon
on other youtube videos people got them for less than $20 at a near by store
If the Paladin was actually role playing correctly he would have more likely charged in to vanquish the undead abominations not parlay with them. Role playing is fine and in fact I encourage it in my own games however role playing poorly is insufferable, so I don't blame Bob one bit for his attitude toward the guy playing the paladin.
You know you're an idiot when you get sneered at by Ed Greenwood.
Mellow out man, he brought some humour to the game..
I agree that in DnD a typical Paladin would not parlay with skeletons and that he should have in fact charged in to crush them, but being a jerk to someone who you think is not 'role playing' correctly is no better than the generic jock bullies in high school. This is why many people, even myself, don't go overboard with the role-playing since people get so damn judgmental about it if you don't do it 'correctly'. For all we know his Paladin had a low intelligence score but still tried to parlay which is something a low intelligence paladin would do. Maybe he was actually playing the character correctly in that regard, we don't know.
I think Salvatore is a good guy nonetheless but even if he was role playing his rogue character, he also was not doing that great since you couldn't tell if it was him being a dick or the rogue. I think he was a little bit too much of a dick in this regard.
ahhhh nit-picking.....c'mon, we have to play cookie-cutter personalities all the time?
I really wish the audio was better, most of the games I've watch for WotC have painful audio.
Hehe, thanks ^_^ I'm just a fan. A fan with a plan. Maybe.
Ed!!!! The creater of Forgotten Realms I'm not worthy!
That would be so cool to have one of the thumbs up and get to play with them.
Also who in their right mind would provoke the DM, that's like provoking a bear. Does 63 hit your AC? *shudder*
Classic dragon born, tiefling? Fck I'm old if they consider those classic.
I'm still a big fan of 2nd Ed
"Tithering" is such a good word.
D&D without any snacks? And no DM's screen?
I've never shared a d&d video before this one I'm 15 min in an I'm dying of laughter
That was cool
But... *what was in that bag of holding?*
Holy Moly that guy even looks like a wizard.
that guy.............sigh
Forgotten realms is not D&D. It's just one setting
I have to admit I chuckled a bit when the stereotypical fat nerds joined the table.
I chuckled when I thought about how they've probably had more sex than you.
CommanderOfTheSun So which one of them is you?
Doctor Thaddeus Bodog Sivana ask ur mama
More sex? Yeah, if you count masturbation to cosplay girls and rule 34 Pokemon as sex. I have no doubt that those chubs must have a pretty rigorous masturbation schedule.
BronzeBullBalls
you get all the sex you want, gay boy.
Remember 6 years ago we were told that we just a nothing but virgins? things changed huh?
Good point about persuading him BTW, but I don't think he is persuadable.
Coming from someone called LazyBastard?
What edition? 4th?
Rip 38 studios
was a fun watch but the mechanics and power gaming feel makes me remember why I never played 4e
Does Larry have dementia or something. He doesn't seem do be very bright.
+Peter Popoff Read the sentence you wrote. Before you cast stones at others, perhaps you, yuorself, should graduate second grade.
Jason Mazur LOL! I may have accidentally typed a d instead of a t and used a period instead of a ?. Ironically, take a look at your sentence geneious. "Peter Popoff Read the sentence you wrote. Before you cast stones at others, perhaps you, yuorself, should graduate second grade." See you in second grade.
+Peter Popoff tementia isn't a word. xD Little kids nowdays

Your comment was deemed UN-important by the important people society thus the delayed response to your comment. Please try again in 2017, we appreciate your patronage and time. :)
The Kentucky accent is really cool.
Fucking with the DM is never a wise choice. Though if you have 2 DMs you can play them against each other like parents. Just don't get caught.
On a side note, I was at Mardi Gras the last week. We got our DM drunk and he said(while shit faced) "I hope all of you aren't attached to your characters yet, I'm going for TPK this campaign".
*Gulp*
what's the red box?
Red box power!
Needs more paladin
GAME SCIENCE DICE
was this at GenCon?
Yep
Salvatore looks pissed off lol , wtf ?
SO THEY HAD A LIFE-DRAINER AXE AND NO ONE THOUGHT ABOUT CALLING IT "THE EX-WIFE"????????
Ex-wife's divorce attorney.
Mother in Law.
Jameson (as in Jenna).
41:55 dat jiggle mmmmmhhhhhhmmmm
fuck yes lol playin dnd at mardi gras
Celebrities?
ill raise my staff and sploog attack on that milk maiden. rolls a 20 critical pink eye damage....
hahahaha 13:47
The only thing that ruined it for me was the guy playing the paladin! I hate people that play paladins that way! You could see that Bob Salvatore was really irritated with him form the beginning! Even Chris Perkins right from the start was irritated with him!
Yeah, they fixed this in 5th edition by making them explicitly hard-@55 and possibly out for vengeance.
I really can't stand the 2 that came from the audience. They're trying so hard to be funny and/or force the roleplaying.
dawgyv72 there were three actually. the other two seemed like they were just having a good time. the pally seemed like he had a point to make ("roleplaying isn't dead"), the rest of the party (especially R.A) seemed to react accordingly.
Really? I thought the audience members that took part were fairly quiet and reserved.. well except for the pally, but I personally didn't mind that at all. I do kinda wish the guy playing the Cleric would have spoken up a bit more... I could barely hear him.
I had to stop at 6:08 because of the pompous attitude of Qball.
I can't believe my comment got too many negative votes!? What because I didn't self censor?...
