I really liked April as a kid, but I gotta admit, she got annoying after season one. I always found it cool that she went from a damsel to just barely getting by against Karai by using what Splinter taught her, and eventually being a kunoichi. It really felt like she had to work for it. One moment I really liked was her telling Donnie him flipping the purple dragon over the counter was "the coolest" and he's like "you didn't see it, did you?" But SHE TRIED. Now she flat out ignores his ass sometimes. I do still love her, but I won't ignore her annoying qualities.
I would say 2012 April is misjudged, but I certainly agree the writing and especially forced love triangle really drags her down. If anything, I'd say Donnie should've had a puppy crush on her only in season 1 and then move on from it sensing the feelings aren't so genuine. Casey should've flirted with her in season 2, but she would just give it a pass and say she doesn't want to be in any relationship at all having more important things to do. But other than that, she's a good character. I know her being mad at Turtles and running away after her father got mutated is controversial plot point, but it's something you can expect from emotionally unstable teen, especially who got her dad back just recently. To me, it was a good way to show even best friends like Turtles and April can get angry at each other to the point of splitting apart. And after everything she went through it's understandable she just wanted a normal life steel feeling hurt her only family member became a bat. Even her kidnappings happened because she tried to help Turtles and thank them for saving her, even though she wasn't trained to be a ninja. If the pointless shipping was excluded or changed her character would've been much better than she already is.
Rottmnt is best April. There she is the honorary big sister of the group and have more personality. Plus she knows how to fight. And her relationship with the turtles are great. Not romantic but real sibling love.
The thing about Mutant Mayhem is that later on in the movie we slowly learn more about April. She was her own goals, conflicts, likes, dislikes ext. She's not just a love interest. Unlike 2012 Leo didn't automatically tried to get her to love him. He got to know her, he found her pretty but like Donnie got to know the person she is, which makes his crush on her feel more genuine later on. Thank god the crush he has on her is secondary and not a main focus. Ntm it also shows her relationships with the other turtles and not just Leo all the time. Even though it is kinda random they did it how 2012 should of done jt
Good point! I also like how Leo isn't as obsessed like Donnie was. Mutant Mayhem treated it more like a kid's first crush while 2012 treated it more like an obsession.
@@GenerationDefenders Exactly. I generally found them super cute and think they could be an amazing power couple ngl-. Maybe Leo can help her with her story's and reach her goal as a journalist. Leo is generally so sweet in this movie that it's hard for me to hate it. Also an episode id love to see in the MM show is Leo trying to impress her but April tells him that he dosent need to try hard and all he has to be is his self. I really hope the show doesn't do a complete 180 and make it mad like 2012 That would really suck because I grown to adore them a lot
Yeah i get this. Honestly I was afraid you were just going to drag her but your conclusion at the end was fair. I love April, but I'll never pretend she's perfect and she didn't get screwed over by that Romance bs.
They did better with her writing after season 2 . I blame the writers for her personality, she has A LOT of potential as a character but they don’t seem to know how to write a female character other than the badass stereotype (karai)
I really didn't care for this version of April. I liked Karai better, but she was pushed aside for April and her cringe inducing ships/love triangle. I think it was a mistake to deage the human characters like April, Casey, and Karai compared to previous incarnations. Opened the door to all these relationship dramas. Was hoping the new TMNT would abandon shipping Turtles with humans, but now Leo is in love with that version of April. Oh no... A show's obsessive focus on ships/love triangles can completely nuke my interest in it lol.
@@Gruntvc why don’t you watch ROTTMNT, Rise April’s relationship with the turtles is a sibling relationship it isn’t romantic at all, despite many people in the fandom trying to force it to be.
There's two things I hate about 2012 TMNT April, she treats Donnie like crap and plays with his feelings because at first, she's like- "You're my hero!" And the next is like "Shut up Donnie 🙄" like 😭🙏 Second, she legit MOCKS MUTANTS throughout like HALF the WHOLE. SERIES. And she acts like an absolute brat when her dad got mutated 😭
I think Aprils a cool character because she's brave, intelligent, and fierce. I rlly like how she becomes a full on kunoichi and starts fighting enemies alongside the turtles in season 4
honestly i feel like april x Donnie would be cute if both of them where written better, like with April's dad being a scientist, April and donnie could really bond over they're love for science and even like work together with experiments, and April being a intelligent, sassy hardheaded teenage girl with a wanting to help others would be good personality traits for her where she could learn to grow out of her hardheadedness and be more levelheaded, and with her training to be a kunoichi could be because she realizes that the turtles are going through so much to save her and that she feels useless and a burden to them, so being a kunoichi could give her that sense of self and strength so she doesn't have to be a damsel in distress anymore, and for Donnie, he could have been more of a awkward teenage boy with a little puppy crush, at first it could have been like donnie comming off a little to strong with his affection for April which causes charatcer developed with him realizing that he's making the girl he likes uncomfortable would be a good lesson, i feel like april and donnie could have that book smarts (donnie) and street smarts (april) dynamic, that's just how i would rewrite them, I'm sorry if I'm just yapping about nothing or if i made some mistakes feel free to correct me
yeah that should've happened.. Like Donnie actively learning & trying to be more respectful about his feelings with April *happened,* but in a later season and then kinda switched back again!!? This writing man.. :(
Great video! I genuinely believe that April is a misunderstood character. Most 'fans' hate her due to the shipping. They call her a b**** whenever she's involve in a love triangle, believing that she's playing Donnie and Casey's feelings for attention. When in reality, she's a teenage girl who doesn't know how to handle 2 guys liking her. However, I do agree that she was written poorly and oversexualized at times. Overall, 2012 April deserves more appreciation and love.
I never really thought April was annoying but i see where you're coming from . And i do really remember disliking her when she yelled at Donnie about her dad . I get it , she was mad about her dad and she felt frustrated but it was an accident and yeah indeed what is she doing about it ? Nothing . Just whine and being a jerk. Looking back a lot of Tmnt 2012 hasn't holt up the greatest . I especially don't like the way the turtles and other main characters treat each other cause often time they're a little too mean to each other , especially towards Mikey . The would do things like insult or punch or belittle each other and that always felt wrong but hey , that might just be my own taste .
I thought it was great Turtles weren't always getting along with each other. They're mean because they're teens and when being locked up together the whole life really makes you hate your brothers antics once you're free to get out to the open world. After all, despite all the bickering they proved to be family time and time again. All those family fights were just a test to prove their bond.
Umm... Do you have any siblings? Like any siblings at all? That's completely normal for brothers to act like that to each other.. why do you think siblings are always nice to each other?
And April couldn't do anything about her dad because she was just a ordinary teenage girl. That's why she was just "whining" and "being a jerk". She was still just a normal teenage girl back then who couldn't really do much.
I think my biggest issue with April was how overtuned she was at times. It really felt like the writers didn't know what they wanted to do with her. She has incredible psychic powers, and that was easily the most interesting avenue to explore. But instead they had her constantly undergoing kunoichi training for her physicality and to become a fighter...? Instead of learning to meditate and hone her unique mental abilities with Splinter...? She is an on and off teased romance with Donatello, but it mostly serves as a tool to involve/interject April into scenes and tease an engagement that never pans out and never really made much sense given how little it was explored in the first place. She is at the center of everything in terms of the plot, but sometimes it was really hard to ascertain exactly what April's own personal motivations beyond surface level (aside from at one point wanting to get her dad back and restore him). Which is a shame because I did enjoy her in season 1. I never thought she was particularly great (especially in contrast to 2003 April), but she was mostly fine(?) I know some people really enjoy her becoming a kunoichi, but I honestly didn't really care for it. She didn't really need that addition to her character when she already had standout character aspects. And it honestly only really served to detract from the other characters in a lot of ways. Especially because April's personality flaws never really made up for her being overtuned nor were interesting to engage with on their own. If anything, I think it is ironic that April is among the weakest characters in the show despite being the most important by far.
THIS! The shipping side is horrendous from every angle, but the most interesting thing about 2012 April was the fact that she was a half mutant and her psychic powers were really cool (loved her in the space arc). The kunoichi side was so pointless cause she was never going to catch up with the other ninjas. I felt so bad when she officially became one just to get her ass beaten by Karai and Cassandra. Even with the amulet, she couldn't be a match for them because of this lack of training with her powers. And suddenly it was a bad influence on her, why not just use her Krang side instead of this gimmicky alien race? They could've made something akin to the Rat King back in those seasons, like blacking out and working for the krang in the meantime cause they're all connected. In the end, it's not the characters fault, but the writers on inability to work with what could otherwise be a beloved character like the other Aprils
The part that I hate about 2012 April is her response to Donnie in season 3 "the foot too big", when Donnie already realizing how creepy he's been acting and apologize to April, and instead she kissed on the lips and call him "my mutant"!? Like what!? Girl, this is an episode where Donnie get to move on to his creepy feelings while she is still important to him as a family, although it'll be fine if April kissed him instead on a cheek platonically as a "thank you" for maning up but no! Even worse, in the next episodes Donnie's behavior towards April didn't change
Good Love Story When the two characters Also grow and Learn Something for each other. the Problem with 2012 April "Love Story" as that it feel Like More a Joke or the writers try hard too for April to be the Superior one.
My favorite April is probably Mutant Mayhem April. I dont really care much for Rise April cuz I dont like hyper characters. MM April on the other hand is probably one of the most realistic depictions of teenagers that weve seen. Plus she's more mellowed out
Totally get your point, she doesn't really seem interested in Leo or in anyone else like that, she's just happy to be their normal friend. She really has that organic feel of a simple teenage girl who got involved with mutants and became friends with them.
@zfaydogdu Like she yells a lot. She has a TON of energy. She's fight now talk later. I just don't care for characters like that. Kinda like Naruto or Mikey from 2012
I don’t like this version of April. She’s always more than one thing. She’s a damsel in distress, than she’s a reliable ally, she’s a ninja, and now she’s an alien chosen one. It’s so grzting
I think love triangle bullshit kinda ruined April,Donnie and Casey together sadly. Her written as mary sue, dumbass in distress also ruined her too. I don't hate April, but i think she became a Mary Sue as the show goes on and her becoming kunoichi is so fast while the turtles have technically been training to be ninjas since the moment they were mutated and i think it's not fair. And also feel like Tmnt 2012 writers didn't know what to do with Karai either. A thing i also want to add; It's makes me uncomfortable how sexualized April in 2012 show as a woman and i think both 2003 and Rotmnt April and Casey are the best.
You know something the gender wars is stupid because most of the time society only favors one side and women be more sensitive to something to emotions is kind of like a myth to me because really emotions aren't always inherited they're usually learned by anyone of any gender like you know they say men can't cry or they have to bottled their feelings up why woman gets to let theirs out it's our immaturity that makes us trash as both genders I don't care if you're male or female we both have to take responsibilities for our actions and for what trouble we caused to another person like we should be the ones apologizing even if some random men didn't do anything to this woman they still make the man feel bad and only makes themselves feel better like the woman should be the one apologizing as well as men they should be the ones owning up to their mistakes it's society's fault that screws up gender stereotypes and if April was better written as not a love triangle and more as her own character along with karai then we were got two best characters of females there is but we have to agree that Avatar did it better and most of the dcau
I don’t think she’s bad. I just didn’t like her in the like first two seasons when they stop focusing on her being the main plot of each episode… I think that’s when it started getting interesting and when she became a Kunoichi I started to like her a little more and her fighting alongside the turtles
I didn’t really like this April variant she was giving “ I’m a misunderstood girl who finds out she’s part mutant space alien, apart of one of the most powerful alien races, who also had a traumatic past, now I’m becoming the main character, and I’m also trained by splinter “ it was just cringe to me, and on top of that the love triangle was annoying. She just made me so mad with how she acted towards the turtles and got in their business knowing she isn’t as skilled as them. Rise April and Mayhem April had a more like able character, same with the older variations of April. This one had me angry at how much she got in the way. 😂
@@stevenphillips8366 well she didn't know martial art or how to fight in the beginning and she was the key to the Krang so that's why she was captured so much.
She’s badly written, repeatedly tells Donnie it’s not a date or she doesn’t like him but would flirt or kiss him then get mad when he thinks she likes him. Treats mutants terribly the whole show like when she said it most have been terrible when Pete turned into a mutant cause he’s a pigeon, she called the monkey mutant a monster 💀
i don't know how i really feel about her i'm okay with her she wasn't my focus in the show so i payed her really no mind i did think she had a bad attitude and a bit too confident in herself and she's a little too op for no real reason not just with her powers but how she can fight with the turtles and got the best of both Karai and Raph like how stupid is that and for clarification Raph who has trained under a grand master for 15 years has a build that was made for strength power and speed and Karai whom trained for i think 16 years to be more brutal and deadlier than the turtles made to be flexible and agile and gets taken down by Aprile
I still rant about the episode “The Kraang Conspiracy” Every Time I see it LIKE OH MY GOD I WANTED TO SMACK APRIL SO BAD IN THAT EPISODE! The guys were trying to protect her and she just whines and whines. Like, SHUT UP! Honestly April should’ve gotten yelled at in that episode instead of being awarded. Like WHY IS SHE SUCH A BRAT IN SEASON 2?! Donnie just comes in and says “I’ll protect you April!” And she just goes “Protect Yourself😡” I’M SORRY?! WHAT?! THE TURTLES SHOULD’VE YELLED AT HER WHENEVER SHE’S BEING A BRAT! Karai is better in my opinion
I think what people liked about April 2012 isn’t her in general but her story. She actually has a pretty good story, all the plot twist about her and her slowly realizing her powers was great! The problem is her character itself, it’s a great plot and it’s what people like but her personality was very Mary-Sue (never gets blamed for problems she causes and is a terrible fighter but already considered a kunoich) rude, not even nice to her friends, selfish, entitled and overall just unlikable. Therefore I believe when people are saying she was actually pretty cool, I think they mean the story she was given, not her as a person. (Or maybe people are going into their Y/N phases late in life)
I always felt like April was more of a plot device than a character, which is why I don't particularly care for her.i will say that most of the stuff I see people complain about her is usually just Donnie or Casey being weird and her responding. I feel like people got way too mad at April who was the least at fault, and not at the writers or even some of the other characters who also sucked. Anyway, great video! I drew 2012 Leo while listening to it. Good video!
People give her so much hate and seem to forget all the horrible things she’s had to put up with. Not to mention she’s just a teenager. Teenagers are annoying from time to time.
Very accurate analysis of her character and ark. Also thank you so MUCH for calling out that weird trope I had no name for. It always bugged me, that girls /women in shows and movies often get away with irresponsible and reactionary behavior and not have to apologize or take responsibility for their actions. No it's the guys who have to apologize to them! I never understood where that came from. I only figured that it was a case of men writing women.
Yes April was a bit annoying in the show at times but over the seasons they developed her character more and she became a Kunochi and learnt how to fight better. On top of that the concept of her being a Human\Kranng mutant hybrid with psychic abilities is most definitely interesting to me. So overall I think she's a pretty decent character and I hope you respect my opinion as I respect yours.
And if am going to be honest as much as I loved 2012 April and Donnie's relationship it seemed more of as obsession then actual genuine love. Donnie was too obsessed with her and it seems like their relationship was kinda one sided. I just wish the writers and the show had developed their relationship more so they could really flesh it out. Not only that but I also wish they explored the concept and the magnitude of her power's. I agree we have seen her do some pretty powerful stuff in the show but not much. I just wish we saw more impressive feats of her power's and I wish how we saw more of her martial arts and combat skills growing.
Looking back, April was really poorly written here. I know what would've made her better: if she would've became a real sister-like figure to the guys. She developed a good student-sensei relationship with Splinter, I really wish they would've gotten a more father-daughter-like relationship. Her dad also should've been more involved with everyone after he was saved, and Donnie would've gotten a better character development if he learned to love out of her. There's a TMNT comic, made by an Indie named RUclips channel, where April has a big emotional breakdown at the farm house to Leo, who almost died and got injured for her and she didn't save him. That comic basically showed me all the potential what canon April never had. She showed genuine and understandable regret and distress over loosing her BROTHER. April would've been a great older / more experienced sister to the boys seeing the world-wise. Not even mentioning that her being a Kraang - human hybrid could've been her real emotional starting point for truly looking at the boys as her family, she could've bonded more with all of them over that stuff. The boys helping her slowly learn her powers and accept her nonhuman nature? A "slice of life" episode like that would've been wonderful! 🤩 1 of my newly discovered issues with TMNT is that none of the popular versions have real chilled out, and character developing episodes. Every character development happens over battle, what is only good to a certain extent, but the series makers forgot how much impact there is with 2 of the main characters just sitting down, and have a chill talk, even over everyday stuff! God, her potential character-wise was truly wasted, looking back. 😩 Edit: thanks for the like, tbh, I could easily sit down and talk about my ideas about her and about every TMNT character in general to be honest, I love this franchise, and I wish the TV would've made it more similar to my ideal, more nuanced version in my head. I feel like we could really discuss this topic if we met. 🙂
🤔🧡In a way, I felt the same way at first in the first 2 seasons with 2012 April. Though after looking through all her character moments besides the Classic kidnapping, It has a bit more of a stressful realism of how she had to deal with all this with her life: The Crane experimentation on our family. The ninja turtle screw up that she upset about, wanting to break her trend by actually being a member to fight alongside instead of rescued, Being at the center point of crisis after crisis, Discovering, she has powers and is conflicted of whether to embrace that or say goodbye to normal life, and and Big moments once she got power that would truly beat her enemies and how it changed her. When she became a full kunuichi after the space adventures is where I actually really loved her Character Arc and got interested enough to look back on her character moments (except for the love triangle). Truly spotlighting around her prowess and growing development; No longer being the damsel in distress!
April in season 1 she is a fresh minded teen in on the mutant adventure. In season 2 she became really salty and mean. In season 3 shes like a sister. In season 4-5 she becomes edgy and menacing.
I would also say another reason April was removed from the Turtles is because of the Kraang Sub Prime reveal. Couldn't come up with a way to get Kraang Sub Prime into the lair
About april wanting to move on without the turtles and her dad, i think she was heart broken. When im completely crushed by a project or person that i put so much time and effort into for it to either not work how it was meant to or hurt me over and over, i drop it and move on from it. I think she felt hopeless about her dad becoming a mindless animal and went straight to teenage brain and tried to ignore the issues entirely. Her anxiety or depression about these problems, which she must have felt, can lead to apathy, which i kinda remember her expressing through the rest of the show. She just stayed the "girl of their dreams" as you explained.
@craftymind2913 I agree with you, April running away from Turtles in season 2 is completely justified and I understood her frustrations, I think people just gloss the reasons over to demonize 2012 April even more.
24:00 this entire side rant, just proves how male writers can’t write woman in shows without pretending their a man during the writing Pretend they’re are Man in writing and just make them female afterwards I think this happened with the aliens movie i think
I actuley understand where you are comming from. 2012 April isn't the only one, 2012 Leo, Donnie, and Rapheal are a bunch of jerks and way too mean spirited to Michelangelo, and Mikey is my favorite out of the the Ninja turtles. 2012 Mikey is an Angel camparison. Leo, Donnie, and Raph treat him like an outcast and believe me when I say this happens way too often then it probrobly should. Even Splinter was like it serves him right. I actuly feel sorry for Mikey.
Respectfully disagree but regardless, it racks my brain whenever i see this type of take flinged around for a majority of reasons. 1. The bros’ interactions with Mikey are nothing more than your typical sibling bickering on a daily basis. They tease him, but they dont belittle him and even acknowledge his value. 2. Mikey often instigates pranks on the turtles and is fully aware of it and still chooses to do them just to mess with his bros. Again, just typical sibling banter. 3. The reasons why the bros get ticked off at Mikey is when he messes up on missions or when he’s not focused. This is perfectly reasonable for them to call out and is by no means “mean spirited”. They simply just want to keep Mikey grounded so he’s focused at the task at hand.
@@Equalizer4 While that may seemed likley, but their are times when the bros go way too far, When ever Mikey is telling the truth and tries to warn everyone, no one believes him, EVEN when there lives are at stakes, and even when Mikey has done so much for his brothers like solving puzzles and save the day and even prooving himself right, his brothers NEVER learn. They continue to be mean to him after everything he has done for them.
@@chrisbarone515 and what precedent do they have to believe him exactly in the first place? Bc for all they know, he could just be goofing around abt it. And even then, they still choose to listen to him. They literally let him lead the mission to save New York back in Dimension X, smth even Leo had no issue abt since they know he’s capable and trust his expertise in that area. Leo entrusted Mikey himself to protect April and Donnie when the Kraang were invading back in S2, and let him come on a solo mission that he didnt want the others to come with in “Attack of the Mega Shredder.” I could go on and on with the other turtles, but the point is, they still think he’s capable despite how goofy he can be. Also funny that you bring up the “lives at stake” part when Mikey has done things that nearly cost the turtles their lives, not intentionally obviously, but due to his carelessness, which is why they get frustrated with him sometimes.
12:05 Probably felt like she had no choice but to move on since at this point curing mutations wasn't possible yet and Donnie had no idea where to start in his research it was a very real possibility her dad was never gonna be cured and needed to be ready to move on without him. Still she could've tried to find him and maybe try to use her powers to restore Kirby to his right mind that way even if there's no hope of him becoming human again he could at least still be her dad if that last sentence makes any sense.
I'm a real fan of this series. Honestly, this is my favorite version out of all the tmnt's iterations, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna say the show has no flaws. I honestly didn't like April at all at first, but re-watching the show now that I'm older I got a better and more objective look at it. April is a great character that was just bad written. She's basically used just as a love interest or a way of filling the gaps in the plot. I love the episodes where we get to know her more, seeing her backstory or her character development, the problem is that it seems to just reset in the next episode. The love triangle also had very much potential if only the writers had done it better and more seriously, but I'll wait for the specific video about it to talk about this. In general, they could've handled her character development better, maybe continuing her training sessions with Splinter and showing how her efforts led to an improvement or something like that. Also, one thing that really pissed me off was how they made an entire episode dedicated to her mom, just to never talk about it again. Like... that was a really great opportunity to get to know her and her past better, to help us get her character deeply, but they decided to make it a one episode story that will never be brought up again. In the end, April can be pretty annoying, but she really had character potential, being (if I'm not wrong) the very first version of her as a teen and not an adult. This particular difference was a good excuse to see her bond with the turtles more than how she did in the past iterations, as the age gap was smaller. I'm just sad that this chance was basically thrown away. (P.S. I'm sorry if there are some mistakes in my writing but English isn't my first language.)
13:05 The disturbing realization that Donnie broke Timothy's brain with all his April talk turning him obsessed in some form of Stockholm Syndrome (Is that the right one I think it is.)
love story between April Donnie never grew or improved, so Donnie never learned it was wrong to stalk April and force her to like him, because you cant, but somehow not liking him she end up liking him and being with him anyway. 😅
My only problem with 2012 April, and the show in general, is the writing. Characters and plot would've been great *IF* the writing and writers were allowed to *BE* great 👏
I don't know what anyone else thought, but I kind of liked the idea of her being a Human Kraang hybrid which kind of made some sense why Kraang Prime himself was obsessed with getting her. Combined that with her trying to train in Ninjutsu. Unfortunately I also groan a bit with this relationship thing regarding Donnie and Casey.
I honestly think that the writers only gave her weird powers and made her half alien, was because she was so lame before. It just felt like they were trying to force this idea that she’s ‘sooo interesting’ or whatever, but it actually just annoyed me. I cringed every time she had those headache things.
I find too April 2012 to be truly unbearable and annoying at some moments. However, some fans who are toxic and at least as unsympathetic as April are exaggerating this situation. Even though April is really annoying at some moments, I think she is seriously misunderstood sometimes. I like karai and Shinigami much more than April, but that doesn't change that April is at least an objectively better writen character than Shinigami. It's both a better-intentioned person and a good adaptation for a 15-year-old April. Some fans are truly unbelievable; They ignore all her peak or good scenes and make short edits just to bully April 2012 and have fun🤯 And they are trying to edit this decision just to bully. One channel even I said, "Don't be so toxic and unsympathetic, yes 2012 April is very annoying at some points, but it has many good aspects. Personally, although I like 2003 and 2007 April much more, 2012 April is not as bad as you exaggerate". Banned me from the channel 😂 In short, 2012 April is definitely not a very good April. At some points he is very unsympathetic and annoying, but at others he is completely misunderstood. But since some fans do not understand this and exaggerate it, they bullying April 2012 unnecessary. I think April 2012 is a very well-intentioned person, even though she doesn't have many friends and has a difficult life. So, for someone who is 15-17 years old and lives such a crazy life, his behavior at some points is very understandable. But of course, I prefer April like Live Action 90s April, 2003 and 2007. Even though it was a bit long, I finally found a video of someone who looks at this situation logically.
I saw J's review about season 4 and shipping in the show and he right about raph and mona yes it's not human and turtle but mona is an alien salamander and Raphael is of course a turtle forgetting about the alien part salamander and turtle are different species from different groups of animals heck birds and mammals are more related to reptiles than amphibians are
But they're the best couple to me because Donnie x April and April x Casey is a mess Leo x Kairi is weird to fans because family and the shipping of Mikey isn't well developed
Taking responsibility is has been for female characters in boondocks the girl killed herself and young justice martin never faces consequences for her actions
You also forgot how being raised by only one parent can have consequences on how they regulate their emotions, and how it gets even worse when it's also in an abusive houshold or extremely stressful situation
I grew up without a father and i still have issues with regulating my emotions in a way, making me snap at my husband when he says something I think he meant in a negative way
It came to me that what annoyed me was not that she got kidnapped, but that almost every time she was kidnapped, she rescued herself, showing that she didn't need to be kidnapped at all. When she doesn't rescue herself, the Turtles foul up in rescuing her, so she saves them on the way out - which wouldn't have happened if she hadn't been kidnapped, not that the series ever acknowledges it. It's just that women are NATURALLY rash, they're passionate, they're over-emotional, and you can't blame them for being naturally mindless, right? April's development as a Kunoici is not slow. As Raph says, they've been training for 15 years. It seems slow in season 1, but then... then it really speeds up. She's shown meditating a lot, doing her kata... but hitting girls is wrong, so she very rarely actually spars or otherwise trains with the turtles. So, she 'slowly' develops a new power or improves her skills - only to be kidnapped AGAIN a few episodes later, making the increase in power pointless.
Tbh the worst thing April ever did was bringing Irma to the lair in Season 2 finale. Now hear me out. It was a betrayal on her part, regardless of her intentions(aka keeping her friend - Irma safe) Because, she knowingly brings a human(from April's perspective before reveal) to her friends home! Their only safe place! And it's never adressed or called out! She outed them to a person turtles didn't know, and it's never mentioned ever again! What if Irma wasnt kraang in disguise? What if she was human, and later on, sold turtles out to Shredder or FBI or something along those lines? Did April think about that? And it's an easy fix too! Just have April tell Irma to wait for her in the sewers to get help, and she goes to turtles but Irma follows without her knowledge! Bam! April doesnt look as bad and you still can have Kraang-Irma fight turtles.
She was annoying throughout the entire show to say the least,I really hate the way she treats the turtles and she doesn't learn a SINGLE thing from her mistakes,so I claim her as annoying

I still prefer 2012 over rise and mm
If the pointless shipping was excluded or changed her character would've been much better than she already is.
totally agree ^^'

Rottmnt is best April. There she is the honorary big sister of the group and have more personality. Plus she knows how to fight. And her relationship with the turtles are great. Not romantic but real sibling love.

@@Zastara919same her relationship was great with him too

@@GenerationDefenders
Exactly.
I really hope the show doesn't do a complete 180 and make it mad like 2012

Try Rise it's really great even if it's short
@@Gruntvc why don’t you watch ROTTMNT, Rise April’s relationship with the turtles is a sibling relationship it isn’t romantic at all, despite many people in the fandom trying to force it to be.
There's two things I hate about 2012 TMNT April, she treats Donnie like crap and plays with his feelings because at first, she's like- "You're my hero!" And the next is like "Shut up Donnie 🙄" like 😭🙏
Second, she legit MOCKS MUTANTS throughout like HALF the WHOLE. SERIES. And she acts like an absolute brat when her dad got mutated 😭
I think the only things I like about this April is
1. Her Design
2. Her Kunoich Progression
everything else I hate
Those parts and the fact she was voiced by Mae Whitman.
I think Aprils a cool character because she's brave, intelligent, and fierce. I rlly like how she becomes a full on kunoichi and starts fighting enemies alongside the turtles in season 4
Right she has some of the best character development in the show honestly
honestly i feel like april x Donnie would be cute if both of them where written better, like with April's dad being a scientist, April and donnie could really bond over they're love for science and even like work together with experiments, and April being a intelligent, sassy hardheaded teenage girl with a wanting to help others would be good personality traits for her where she could learn to grow out of her hardheadedness and be more levelheaded, and with her training to be a kunoichi could be because she realizes that the turtles are going through so much to save her and that she feels useless and a burden to them, so being a kunoichi could give her that sense of self and strength so she doesn't have to be a damsel in distress anymore, and for Donnie, he could have been more of a awkward teenage boy with a little puppy crush, at first it could have been like donnie comming off a little to strong with his affection for April which causes charatcer developed with him realizing that he's making the girl he likes uncomfortable would be a good lesson, i feel like april and donnie could have that book smarts (donnie) and street smarts (april) dynamic, that's just how i would rewrite them, I'm sorry if I'm just yapping about nothing or if i made some mistakes feel free to correct me
yeah that should've happened.. Like Donnie actively learning & trying to be more respectful about his feelings with April *happened,* but in a later season and then kinda switched back again!!? This writing man.. :(
@@unripetheberrby6283 ikr it's so disappointing
April is at her best in season 5 since she isn't much of a bother that would pass you off
I thought it was great Turtles weren't always getting along with each other. They're mean because they're teens and when being locked up together the whole life really makes you hate your brothers antics once you're free to get out to the open world.
After all, despite all the bickering they proved to be family time and time again. All those family fights were just a test to prove their bond.
She thought if she can got her new life he can get her dad back seriously? 😒 11:55
I never thought she was particularly great (especially in contrast to 2003 April), but she was mostly fine(?)
I know some people really enjoy her becoming a kunoichi, but I honestly didn't really care for it.
I was 6 when it came out and my only complaint about her was that "why are the turtles wanting to kiss a human???!?!?!?!"

Great vid keep taking your time from great vids
You made a ton of great points here plus U managed to make me and sister fun and we enjoyed your video
Avatar and the DCAU shows were awesome. Miss animated shows like those today.
Regular Show did male/female characters better too.
To be fair all four of the turtles can be real dumbasses sometimes
25:03 yo she has 6 fingers lol
Ye I was giving wattpad y/n
Question how many time did April been kidnapped or captured?
Too many
How the heck did she capture so easy?
April and Karai were competing to be the biggest damsel in distress of the show. Guess it was some kind of inside joke for the writers.

(Or maybe people are going into their Y/N phases late in life)
Well April has been shown to be determined and hard headed
I only saw 2012 on because I was 7 years old in 2012 but I agree I hate the cheese plate trope
2:11 why does she have 6 fingers there?
I like 2012 april concept but never the fan of her cons execution while i appreciates the pro’s
1 of my newly discovered issues with TMNT is that none of the popular versions have real chilled out, and character developing episodes. Every character development happens over battle, what is only good to a certain extent, but the series makers forgot how much impact there is with 2 of the main characters just sitting down, and have a chill talk, even over everyday stuff!
God, her potential character-wise was truly wasted, looking back. 😩
Edit: thanks for the like, tbh, I could easily sit down and talk about my ideas about her and about every TMNT character in general to be honest, I love this franchise, and I wish the TV would've made it more similar to my ideal, more nuanced version in my head.
I feel like we could really discuss this topic if we met. 🙂
13:40 ughhh I hate that!! Thank you for mentioning it
🤔🧡In a way, I felt the same way at first in the first 2 seasons with 2012 April.
April is more of a both tbh but a bother in terms of character
The beginning is facts fr
April in season 1 she is a fresh minded teen in on the mutant adventure. In season 2 she became really salty and mean. In season 3 shes like a sister. In season 4-5 she becomes edgy and menacing.

I may just be projecting... but i think it fits
@craftymind2913 I agree with you, April running away from Turtles in season 2 is completely justified and I understood her frustrations, I think people just gloss the reasons over to demonize 2012 April even more.

I do not think this April is terrible I think she is just kinda boring
April o Neil 2012 season 2 is annoying 💚💙💙💙💜💜💙
She acts a brat in season 2
Some fans are truly unbelievable; They ignore all her peak or good scenes and make short edits just to bully April 2012 and have fun🤯
And they are trying to edit this decision just to bully. One channel even I said, "Don't be so toxic and unsympathetic, yes 2012 April is very annoying at some points, but it has many good aspects. Personally, although I like 2003 and 2007 April much more, 2012 April is not as bad as you exaggerate". Banned me from the channel 😂
In short, 2012 April is definitely not a very good April. Even though it was a bit long, I finally found a video of someone who looks at this situation logically.
you mentioned all of em except for 2007 April😥
I love April my favorite rude girl🫶
Um hi
Welcome to the video
I know who said that , but that's not true this april sucks
12:47 spoiler alert: none
I saw J's review about season 4 and shipping in the show and he right about raph and mona yes it's not human and turtle but mona is an alien salamander and Raphael is of course a turtle forgetting about the alien part salamander and turtle are different species from different groups of animals heck birds and mammals are more related to reptiles than amphibians are
But they're the best couple to me because Donnie x April and April x Casey is a mess Leo x Kairi is weird to fans because family and the shipping of Mikey isn't well developed
Rise April is my favorite. But 2012 is really thicc
I grew up without a father and i still have issues with regulating my emotions in a way, making me snap at my husband when he says something I think he meant in a negative way
If anything, it’s Donnie who’s the annoying 1.
4:19 As a person who *HATES* ships, I think they're cringe. (GD please do not kill me.)
@@sonicorange9050 you have the right to like what you like and hate what you hate. It’s your opinion after all
Thank God you're not like those other people who get defensive. (Examples of this behavior would be NUZI shippers from Murder Drones.)
Those NUZI motherfuckers are so sensitive.
I’m sorry, but this version of April was the very worst version I’ve ever laid my eyes upon. She was just rude, man.
It was a betrayal on her part, regardless of her intentions(aka keeping her friend - Irma safe)
Because, she knowingly brings a human(from April's perspective before reveal) to her friends home!
Korra’s personality is Garbage??
Okay yeah I know you’re talking about April but like DRAGON BALL FAN?
When is gotten black
Next Friday
She was annoying throughout the entire show to say the least,I really hate the way she treats the turtles and she doesn't learn a SINGLE thing from her mistakes,so I claim her as annoying
Y’all honestly murdered her character ppl just hate to see a realistic female character with flaws
