- Sunday morning visit on 06/13/21. Donna is lady that shows me my seat, and holds my hand as I chat with her about donut holes. I think she is 95 years old, and works two days a week, every Saturday and Sunday. Usually she would be handing everyone donut holes as they walk in the door, but they have not resumed that tradition after COVID yet, and are instead served after you are seated. If you want a real experience, visit on the weekend, so you can chat with Donna. She is so sweet. This place is so old school. You will love it.

Jackson Boulevard was the starting point for the original Route 66, which means you can drive into Chicago on the “Mother Road” from the Kennedy Expressway, Illinois Interstate 90/94. Exit Jackson east and look for Lou Mitchell’s on your right located near the intersection of Jackson and Jefferson. Route 66 was created in 1926, and when the signs went up on Jackson Boulevard, commuters found Lou Mitchell’s waiting for them. We’ve been feeding the hungry travelers with comfort food since 1923. Drop in and enjoy our famous breakfast and/or lunch.
