  • A downpipe is a must have modification on a MK7 GTI. This is a very easy DIY too. This downpipe will delete the cats on the GTI. Remember when working on any exhaust to work on a cold exhaust system. Also installing a downpipe or removing a catalytic converter may make your car illegal for road use.

    I installed the cts catless downpipe on my 16 A3 quattro and must have spent 10 hrs on it. I had it on jacks and had to remove most of the heat shields to get the stock dp out. I was a pain due to little clearance. I don't recommend doing it on stands.

    i need to get around to having a downpipe made, atm its got a stock one with a gtb flange welding to it.
    its not an off the shelf downpipe (well it is but quite expensive) got the turbo from an audi q5 3.0 on a 1.9tdi

    Another great video however I have one minor comment. When you tightened up the clamps at 5:20, you orientated them so they would be tightened from the top. Three or four years from now, the next guy working on the car will be ripping you for doing this as the nuts would have been much easier to remove had you orientated them so they could be loosened from the bottom.

    Deleting the cat is illegal everywhere in the usa... but some places you can get away with it. Same as "tuning" diesels to get stupid black smoke. It's a violation of federal law, not a state thing. However, some states won't do anything about it.

      The feds win, but have chosen to stay out of the marijuana legalization, likely due to the amount of uproar it would cause.

  • @1300l

    Charles, the O2 sensor that go after the catalyst converter trick the car to think that it still have a converter and is working fine?
    Or it will give the car the real reading (the same as the sensor before the converter)?

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V 6 лет назад +2

      1300l that right angle adapter that the sensor is installed in pulls the sensor out of the direct stream of exhaust. This ultimately smooths the voltage readings off the sensor and tricks the PCM into thinking the cat is there and functioning.

    • @1300l
      @1300l 6 лет назад

      Nice, i need to research how to replicate it as i have an exaust project that i wanted to take off the cat

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V 6 лет назад +1

      1300l buy a pair of 18mm spark plug anti-foulers with the gasket type seal. Drill one out with a 1/2" or 13mm drill bit. Thread the un-drilled one with gasket into the pipe. Thread the drilled one with gasket into the un-drilled one. Finally, thread the sensor into the top. This will work fine as long as you have enough clearance because the sensor will stick out of the pipe quite a bit farther.
      If you don't have the clearance, you'll need the 90° adapter or a 45° adapter.

    • @1300l
      @1300l 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks, i may actually have clearence as the engine bay of the car in question, is quite big at the exaus part.

    Do you have a video explaining a solution to the Mk6 TDI Intercooler freezing problem?I've only had the car for over a year and last winter I had one incident where I had to turn my car over 4 times before it finally stayed running. It was almost like a misfire, running extremely rough until it started to run normal. I then found out about the intercooler icing issue when condensation forms and freezes, possibly leading to hydraulicly locking the engine.
    Is an EGR+DPF delete the most sensible option?

    • @HumbleMechanic

      I wrote a blog post many years ago about it. Off hand I forget he reason but the solution is an updated cooler.

    The O2 sensor is mounted fail...!
    It has to be IN the exhaust to get the correct operation temperatur and mesure correctly.
    Cut it from the video or redo the take

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  6 лет назад +1

      It’s actually not a fail. You’re looking at the downstream O2 sensor not the upstream.
      The upstream is not touched during this install. The downstream is moved out of the exhaust flow on purpose as it’s only function is to monitor catalyst efficiency. Since we removed the car there is no need to monitor efficiency.

    What cars will Barret Jackson feature in 2050? Will the same cars be resold for all eternity, you know the unique ones like sports cars and american 1945-1975 cars? Because 95% of cars today are so basic and made for regular driving, they are not fun or good looking. What direction are we going? What is gonna happen with the fun? Or will the future be only generic boring electric cars?
