Conservative Wipeout Ahead! Brexit, Austerity & Cronyism

- The Tories are making themselves repulsive to most voters as polling and Times Radio interview with former Telegraph journalist and true Conservative Peter Oborne shows.
We are about to live through a seismic election event and wipe out of the Tories.

I’m over 65. I will never vote Tory, ever.
I am now 75, have never voted for the Tories, and voted Remain in the Great Disaster. I have been a Republican since I was 16, and I cannot understand why the scruffy-headed, over-size spectacle, hissing on breathing, annoyance, thought it was worse telling lies to the so-called monarch, than lying to the people who actually voted them in. WHY IS IT WORSE. 1 old woman, nothing special, against 60 million REAL PEOPLE.
Ditto here
@@Demun1649 I could not have put it better myself! You took the words right out of my mouth! We are obviously kindred spirits.

I am over 65 & will not vote conservative as they are. Could they change for the better? Change enough? I hope so but don't expect so.
I'm over and . . . I NEVER ever voted for Tories.
Quite simply it's all about the money and no concern for people.
What the British people shall consider, is the distribution of wealth fair? Then vote accordingly.

I am an ageing (63) lazy Dane and, dare I say, I also speak German. English and German is mandatory in school, since 1943. English from first day in school. German, only 4 years.
I have always wondered why the UK haven't made French mandatory? Likewise in the US, why isn't Spanish mandatory. Spanish should even be one of the easier languages to learn.
Have a nice day.
How can anyone ever vote Tory ????
Tribalism.
Ask your fellow compatriots perhaps. The Tories have won a majority of the elections they competed in, mostly off the back of English votes (not the whole of UK).
It's easy. You use the little pencil they give you.

I was a floating voter. I was even stupid and naive enough to vote for brexit.
Never again. Never tory again, ever.
Well done for this brave admission, sir. The problem is not the people who voted Brexit in good faith and conscience, its the liars and charlatans who sold the electorate a pile of manure, for their own selfish gain.
Tories wouldn’t even make good fertiliser
I'd like to try it, though.
Too toxic
Would make them b/s ? Same as the Liar party?
They're trying to salt the earth for the next Government though.
Wow you lefties think the Tories are bad but you are spitting hate.
Current Tories don't deserve more than 20 seats.
Less
If Rishi continues like he did on Loose Women today, they'll be lucky to even be the opposition! I was shocked by his inadequacy! Truly shocked.
He will resign as leader (as all leaders do) and as MP. He's gained enough personal wealth through dodgy dealings, to say "I'm bored of this now, goodbye and please buy more of my book than you did of Liz Truss's"
I'm over 65 and I'll never vote Tory....
Very rich over 65 maybe they vote Tory, goodness knows why....
Somethings not right when Tories have the son of X KGB agent working and advising the UK PM, very worrying.
Get the Tories out, General Election now 🙏
Even 100 odd seats to the Tories in completely ridiculous given their shambolic lying corrupt record. Huge debt, austerity, declining services, and stupid diversions like Rwanda.
It was Calamity Brown who left mountains of debt and austerity in 2010....when all the money ran out.

@@PollieBrooon-cz5yg - A woman of memory. The Tories have been fixing Labour's mess for over a decade but we have never had austerity. Borrowing and austerity cannot exist together. Lefties don't understand those simple economics.

@PollieBrooon-cz5yg national debt is 3 times what it was under Brown, who had reduced it before the American debt crisis.
@@slayerrocks2 But that's because of Brown's crippling £180 billion budget deficit in 2010, costing £1 billion PER WEEK to service Labour's debt.

Needs to be a big majority so that labour can launch an immediate inquiry into 14 years of tory corruption. The scale of it is staggering
Absolutely...the amount of fraud is staggering eye watering amounts 'disappeared'
Agreed. And it has been truly blatant corruption (while disguising themselves as 'market disruptors').

The problem with Thatcherism is that you eventually run out of assets to sell to overseas investors so that they can rip off British consumers. They have privatised (sold) everything apart from the NHS which is being privatised by stealth.
Funnily enough, the last time I voted Tory Ted Heath was Prime Minister.

Tory policies on refugees are what the National Front wanted to enact in the 80's.
In the 00's Tory own assessment, I forget the MP's name but he was interviewed on Newsnight (big fat guy!), showed the economy was significantly better off because of east European migrants.

Make sure you get out and vote though. Older voters always vote and usually tory. Any other age groups, please get out and vote.
While I'm glad the Tories have lost the "prosperous farmers vote " were theybok with "bedroom tax" on the lowest earners but no mansion tax. Cutting benefits but not bankers bonuses. Subsidised food and drink in Hoyse of Commons but restricting free school meals to vunerable children. Austerity cost lives. People on universal credit died. Some took their own lives in despair. Social services cut. Children and spouses dying in the home. A Tory vote will always be an "I'm alright Jack "vote . We need proportional representation so every vote matters and every person matters. Thanks Liz for this upload. Peter Oborne is a good thinker who made the journey from Uber Brexiter to realising that he had been shilling for a delusion based on a tissue of lies. He was honest enough to openly admit he was wrong.
Addendum- this week’s Brexit & Beyond blog by Chris Grey (uploaded today) looks at how the hard Brexiter right who say Brexit has not happened (which is why it’s a failure) are still determined to to have another go at a total break with Europe.
Well, Breiters don't need food, do they ?
No wonder they want to have another " go at a total break " with their most important food supplier.
How does sovreignty taste by the way ?? Is it nutricious ??
You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all the people all of the time!

Sorry - but no.
If Peter Oborne had been a "good thinker" he would have had the courage to stand up against Brexit, loud and clear.
He's certainly capable of appearing to be an "articulate thinker" but that's definitely not the same thing.

A Tory speaking the truth about the catastrophic lies, corruption and incompetence of his favoured party.
This is one of a tiny handful of times in recent years that I've heard a Tory who respects the rule of law and parliament, and with whom you could actually have a debate about policy, rather than spending the entire time debunking their endless lies, cherry picked economic statistics, and constant bad faith arguments.

Don't forget allowing water firms to take 2bill a year in dividends on average every year while letting it sink into 60 billion of debt

Because the 'pinch' would mean bankruptcy under Labour...it always is!
The Tories have basically 'filled their boots' shamelessly, ignoring the conventions where it suited them. Certainly Starmer and Reeves have to re-address their situation and act accordingly. The tearing up of the previously accepted conventions and ignoring previously accepted 'rules' of political behaviour needs to be re-examined and revised.

I could never vote Tory... Peter Oborn as an arch Tory in the past has come to the same conclusion as many left leaning have done and that is the Tories simply continue lurching further to the right embracing neo fascism, perhaps outright fascism as their thinking beomes more and more calcified or concretised as to render them no more than fossils.

But I think the conservatives over Brexit lost too many people. And they have a pretty thin line-up now. They made some bad decisions over leadership and or the executive management.
One of the key messages of Brexit was to take back full control to the UK and then for the Government politicians to be fully accountable - they can't blame others.
So I think the Tories will pay that price of accountability.
You can't have everything as you like it.
The only compensating factor - is that this Labour caucus is not the caucus they had at the last election. I think faced with some of the same challenges as the Tories they will make some similar decisions. But that is just a guess and a prayer.

There has been a rewriting of history. Neither Mr Heath in 1970 or Mrs Thatcher in 1979 were wanted by the electorate. It was an electorate who lacked the courage to elect Labour for a full second term.

Brexit - a bad idea done dishonestly by a bunch of ideological spivs with no planning or preparation. The Tory Party had to sack its best politicians in order to get it through which left us with only the bottom of the barrel scrapings to form present governments. We're obviously in a real mess despite all the resources of government being focussed on hiding the damage. A tragic mistake done badly - what could go wrong apart from everything?
Worst of all, I do not believe that civilisation can sustain itself without us realising that the only way forward is to stop the silly flag waving and arrogant nationalistic boasting and realise that we must learn to share and cooperate - cooperation means peace and plenty for all but sadly Britain loves conflict, war and winning even though that guarantees poverty, war and loss.
Best in the world? Britain is now the shame of the world- a country with so much but too selfish, paranoid and small minded to move into a better future for Europe than the past millennia of constant war and destruction.
Brexit was initially ruined by the unconstitutional opposition. The Benn Act was the worst form of self-harm ever voted for in this country by members, with a very small 'm', of it's own.
