I rode this for the first time several years ago with my mom and my brother. As we were about to crest the first hill, some guy from behind me yelled “WELL THIS WAS A TERRIBLE F*CKING IDEA!!” and most of the coaster cracked up. Laughing quickly turned into shrieking but hey, dude broke the tension for that one moment.
I've always loved watching this POV. Got to be one of the strangest Intamin coasters ever built... What is the reason for all of the no spine track and the immense amount of footers and supports? Was it cheaper when they were fabricating the ride to not have a track spine and instead just have all those supports? What a unique and puzzling ride...
For everyone calling this ride simple or boring. I go to D Lake every year, multiple time. I can go on all the roller coasters multiple times. But I can only do the Superman One time in a visit. That first drop is fucking scary.
Nemotoad gaming just got back from a field trip at cedar point and i was scared the millennium force was so high but it got stuck so this ride is nothing
They are both pretty much exactly the same, and have the potential to run as awesome as each other, but based on my last two rides on both coasters I'd say the Darien Lake one was running better than SFA. But with maintenance and stuff, you never know, that could always change.
This ride was really nice. I loved the wind in my face, the pretty nice view it had, and with no loops I could relax without fearing losing my glasses due to gravity.
This isn't in Buffalo. It's Darien Center. Right next to Corfu. My grandparents lived close. When they had fireworks, we could see them from their house and pout because we weren't there. Lmao
I absolutely love this roller coaster beats all others out of the water, this is the only coaster that actually lifts you off your seat many times, and that drop is simply the best, cant wait for this new coaster they are bringing in in 2018!
That’s why it’s called the Superman XD. Well it’s 2019 now and if u haven’t heard... their opening a new ride called the skyscreamer. U spin around a 100ft ball and go up 24 stories then down ya go. It’s not opened yet but will be before it opens this year (obviously not the ofc opening day) probably will be tall enough so skyscreamer here I come
@@sarahpalmer1353 I just rode that ride. It's scary at all. It basically just a super tall yo-yo. All it does is spin you around slowly and then drops you down very slowly and then you go back up....slowly, spin around some more and then come down. Again all at slow speeds. You do get breathtaking views and can literally see the whole entire park plus all the farm land around. My recommendation would be to go during sunset, on a sunny day. Talk about stunning. There's also another new ride called the blast off that came out this year. You sit down and then after a few moments delay, the ride shoots you straight up 185 feet in the air at super fast speeds and then immediately drops you from that height and then you go back up about halfway before being dropped again. I don't like those kind of rides, so I will pass on that one lol.
@Zoey Bow Not too bad. As long as you scream it'll feel more like you're flying and you forget about the butterflies (especially if you're toward the front)
the two long helixes cause some significant G forces. I spent the day riding coasters with a long time roller coaster junkie before a concert last summer. After not being too impressed with most of the rides we went on Ride of Steel. He had a grey out after the double loops and would not go back on. You also get significant air time on many of the secondary drops. It's a smooth ride with a great drop, plenty of air time and some nice lateral G forces.
I rode this a few weeks ago and just watching this I can feel the feeling I had in my stomach. I remember losing my breath halfway through and crying while going down the hill. I felt as if u was flying and I never actually decided whether I liked it or not. This was my first ever roller coaster.
Oddly enough the straight bit is sort of fun. It gives you that "oh shit" moment as the hill in front of you approaches VERY quickly. Have you been on the ride? I'm assuming no, because otherwise you would know this, and you wouldn't have made the comment you did.
Pretty basic design by today's standards but the first drop gets you the whole way down - one of the best first drops of all coasters and I've been on hundreds. Awesome ride and a "classic" in the genre of mega coasters. Decent positive G's on the helixes, great negative G's on the bunny hills. Like a smaller version of Millennium Force. B+
I actually thought the ride ran pretty good during this visit. Much better than the last time we rode SFA's to be honest. Which is a shame, because there is nothing wrong with the ride, it's all up to how the park keeps it up. These coasters have the potential to be some of the best in the world. Why would you let them underperform?
They were very strict about how they wanted us to mount the camera, and we couldn't use our normal audio camera, so riders were pretty far away from the mic. We were happy they at least let us mount a camera before the park opened!
Ride the predator "the rollercoaster right next to the superman" and you will think different, it shakes like hell and it feels like it will fly off the rails
One of the first hyper coasters I've ever ridden way back in the day. This and Superman at SFNE were the coasters that turned me into an enthiuast. I haven't had the chance to ride Ride of Steel since Six Flags sold the park, so it's been almost a decade since my last ride. I miss it a bit, mostly for nostalgia I guess.
I just rode this coaster for the first time today at the encouragement of my 10yo son. Im 53. This was the tallest and fastest roller coaster ive ever ridden. Now I have the itch to ride others! So very fun! Fast and great air time.
Absolutely love Darien lake used to work there. I hope you enjoyed it. I love this ride. Helped me overcome my fear of roller coasters. Anywho the guy in this video has a dreamy voice :)
I wonder how many people who have SFA as their home park realize that the non-SFNE SROS design was specifically contoured to Darien Lake. The random straight aways and helices that are out of place and dull at SFA actually make design considering the placement of the lake and the shape of the available land at Darien Lake. Mind Blown!
Kayla Nichter Well, that is kind of an immature thing for you to say. It IS a big deal that a man died because that shouldn't happen and it is sad. But it shouldn't keep you from riding this coaster either.
What a incredible looking coaster!! It may be a mirror image of the one at Six flags America but it’s still good. You people are complaining on how it’s pointless. But when you go down those straight sections and as well helix and airtime hills, you feel like Superman! It’s great! Plus when you see people in the train flying through the layout it makes it look like with speed that it is Superman.
This needs to have the Superman branding again, given the park is owned by Six Flags again. They should play Shirley Walker's Superman theme in the station.
@@ritualmastaa8043 It's very good, but there are so many good rides in the U.S. take Skyrush and Steel Vengeance for example. However, this ride is fun and re rideable, Skyrush isn't very re rideable and Steel Vengeance I would assume isn't either.
I remember when I rode this for the first time (back when it was known as Superman: Ride of Steel), I was with my older sister. When I got into my seat, I put my safety bar down without putting on my seatbelt, but I did put my seatbelt on before the ride attendants checked the safety bar. +Zane S well two people died on this.. The one was the victim of war who had no legs, but another girl fell out before that on one of the small hills as she flung up and out of her seat.
the video can not do the Ride of Steel justice. The G forces you feel can not be replicated on video. I took a veteran roller coaster afficiando to Darien Lake last weekend before the big metal concert at the amphitheater. We started with the Viper, which he respected but wasn't thrilled with, the first go around. Then we went on Tantrum, which I loved, but he was only ok with. I was starting to feel bad... Mind Eraser he liked, said it put Darien Lake in the 'ball park'. it was a lot of fun to me too. We went on Predator next, but my buddy tends to get hurt on wooden coasters, and he hated it, but was ok. Ride of Steel was next. I remembered this from my 20-30s as being ok, but not a big deal. I undersold it, as I had always gotten more thrills on the Viper, since I love inversions. Ride of Steel saved the day. He rode on the left side without the guide rail. At about 180 feet on the ascent he got quiet, real quiet. We had the crazy G forces hit us on the first drop (the only thing worth the coaster I told him), silence, the 'bunny hill up' and another 100 foot drop, then the two long circles pushing blood in all sorts of places and more long drawn out G forces, and the late expected g force deep drop just before the ride was over. We got off, he looked pale. We had just done Viper, Tantrum, Mind Eraser and he shook those all off. Ride of Steel, yup it got him. Apparently different people like different types of coasters. My buddy likes the drawn out high lift, a big drop and a lot of lateral G-forces. We rode again since the lines were really short. We were both a little pale by this point, and walked toward the boomerang coaster. He was ok on the forward ride, but the backward ride got him again. He refused another ride on the boomerang and I went again (short lines) Mission accomplished! he was out of commission until the Viper was staring us in front of the amphitheater. After the other coasters and as our last, he admitted his like for the Viper. We both admired seeing a roller coaster layout before us, but how smooth the old beast was. Darien Lake offers a good 6-8 coasters and there is something for everyone. We never got on the motor bike ride :(
DjSaga except millennium force...lol this looks like a bead and breakfast compared to Millennium force. 100 feet higher 20mph faster. almost 90 degree drop..
DjSaga uhhh one of the fastest if i was comparing this with other lame coasters in the bottom top 50. because this thing barely breaks the top 40. how could it be one of the fastest and scary when it barely makes the top 40?? my hometown old school 25 year old phantoms revenge even ranks way higher than this boring looking ride and its a whole generation older than this coaster.
It's sad that now it's 2020 and Darien Lake is closed till further notice, I really miss the park. me and my family were planning on season passes this year but at this point its not worth getting the passes. Who knows when the park will open up again
Idk...the wheels sounded worn out or loose...if they replaced or tightened up the wheels then might actually be a damn good coaster....that's just my opinion...idk...Rob??..what's your opinion?...I been following you for over 10 years now...what do you think about the ride quality???
Hey whats up! And I know they didn't sell it to 6 flags because when talking to a worker they said it would be back on the track in like a month. My best guess to why would be repairs. They did the same thing last year. Starting the season with one coaster.
I live about 6 miles from this place. First time I rode it I held on tighter than I could possibly grasp haha. Now I don't hang on. After you ride it a few times the thrill goes away. Fun coaster though, best ride in the park. Been on every ride there so many times its boring
This coaster is the one that proves you dont need loops to be scary. At 208 feet tall , 73MPH, and a 68 degree drop from 205 feet in the air, this roller coaster is a beast. You will not get off this thing without A: a smile on your face, & B: a very, very large dose of adrenaline pumping thru your body . Absolutely INTENSE

Screw the haters. I love speed coasters like this. Not all coasters have to have inversions and loops to be fun.
Matt Man millenium force has no inversions
Charley Hibschweiler also, El Toro has no inversions

He refused another ride on the boomerang and I went again (short lines)
Mission accomplished! he was out of commission until the Viper was staring us in front of the amphitheater. After the other coasters and as our last, he admitted his like for the Viper. We both admired seeing a roller coaster layout before us, but how smooth the old beast was.
Darien Lake offers a good 6-8 coasters and there is something for everyone. We never got on the motor bike ride :(
MotoCoaster is just *okay* so you didn't miss too much!
weird layout
Lucas wright? is that you?
+Lindsey Baines haha no :D
Has this ride been altered since the fatal accident?
I don't see anywhere that a person would be thrown out of their seat.
what an incredibly boring looking ride.
***** i dont go on rides to take naps.
+euroaaRON1 its one of the fastest rides u will meet its scary in person
+euroaaRON1 This ride is estimated to be maybe 100 Ft high plunging down at more than 55 MPH. Even faster.
What a shitty lay out.
Really great off-ride footage!! And I know I'm probably in the minority but I just love helixes. I love the g-forces you feel on those.
My school goes here every year after state testing, in fact, I’m going through the last testing right now! Darian lake, here I come!
Hi Theme Park Review,Love Your Videos
In line right now for this!!!!!!!! Hell yeah best coaster out there
Idk...the wheels sounded worn out or loose...if they replaced or tightened up the wheels then might actually be a damn good coaster....that's just my opinion...idk...Rob??..what's your opinion?...I been following you for over 10 years now...what do you think about the ride quality???
Intamin goodness! This ride looks AWESOME!
I like that last shot with the mirrored image in the pond.
this was my first ever coaster and let me tell you I think I passed out on it like 3 times. It was so worth it but it was really fast!
LOVE THIS RIDE!!! BEST EVER
It’s cool seeing a huge channel like this do a small amusement park like this local one. ( yes I know it was a six flags)
Very well done, great video.
Hey whats up! And I know they didn't sell it to 6 flags because when talking to a worker they said it would be back on the track in like a month. My best guess to why would be repairs. They did the same thing last year. Starting the season with one coaster.
Most exciting part is 1:57 to 2:01. Such an insane element!
that’s the best airtime hill
I live about 6 miles from this place. First time I rode it I held on tighter than I could possibly grasp haha. Now I don't hang on. After you ride it a few times the thrill goes away. Fun coaster though, best ride in the park. Been on every ride there so many times its boring
you have so many rollercoaster videos. is this your job to ride all these rollercoasters? that would be the greatest job in the universe..
Just look at that amazing straight part! Doesn't it look exiting? :P
