Tonight on top gear. a man plays a guitar, a man plays the drums. and a man wears a hat that can be used to juice a lemon.
RIP to the man behind the guitar and under the hat. What a legend. Have a great journey in your new life. Thanks for sharing your your life in music with the world
RIP Mr. Betts.
Dickey and everybody ever in that great band set the bar high. TY Mr Betts for sharing your gift. One of the best ever. Godspeed.
RIP Grand Tour
Richard Dickey Betts the most criminally underrated blues rock guitarist. He melted that whole crowds faces with that solo.
No, Ray. He's simply the most melodic guitarist. Notice he's using two fingers of his left hand, in homage to Django Reinhardt.
Just remember it's a dual guitar play
Can't remember the other dude
I won't harsh on Dickey Betts, however, he is underrated because he just plays. Sometimes that happens when a instrumentalist is really good; he goes on automatic. I've seen the Allman Brother's perform LIVE many times, and though his performance is technically good, he has underwhelmed the audience.
Criminally underrated...love it.
@@gayleash9712 ..the other side is my punk band blows the audience away and we can't play for chit..lol
A star playing a reasonably priced guitar 😁! RIP to Dickey Betts for giving us one of the most legendary instrumentals of all time!
Top (Gear) comment. Deserves a thumbs up
Rest in Peace, Dickey! :(
Thanks for all the good memories. Your legacy as one of the greatest guitarists will last forever.
Thank you Dickey Betts for the amazing music. May your music live on and play forever.
Old. Tired. Sick. Dying.
This makes my eyes damp.
Wonderful.
Seems like yesterday.
❤❤
Right here with you, brother. Hope you made it ok.
I was named after this song! My dad was a blues musician from 60s- millennium 🙏🔥
Wow. Like many. My Dad loves this and due to time difference, shares a birthday with Jessica Betts, Dickey's daughter. It's the most joyous piece of music.
I named my daughter Jessica because this song made me love the name. As it turns out my daughter has a spirit that is more beautiful than the song.
Without a doubt my favorite Allmans song....At 64 I consider myself to be truly blessed to have grown up in this era...Chills from start to finish!
I agree. We had the best music. And concerts were so inexpensive. Just guys up there on stage performing. Not the big expensive productions you have now a days. The best of times.
@Gary Corson it's 10 pm in the laurel highlands of PA. I'm listening because we babyboomers (68 yrs) had the very best music 🎶 and these tunes evoke memories of some of the best times in my life.

@@CMG423 funny I just got done listening to this song on my bike not 20 minutes ago Came home & saw your comment….I usually listen at least twice a week…Reminds me I’m still alive✌️👉
Hey Gary this is Jeff Yoder the ol'broke down scooter tramp (exbiker),I'm 72years old and I was around when the Southern rock wave took over from the British invasion yeah garyC this is Jeff Yoder and I'm 72years old and was a teenager when the Southern Rock wave took over from the British invasion about a year before I went to Navy boot camp in January of 1969and their music kept me sane till I got discharged labor day weekend of 19 71 and for most of the last 50years plus while I've dealt with the way the people in general have treated my generation of veterans like we were basically criminals for answering Uncle Sam's call for help the way we were raised and taught was our patriotic duty when we were old enough and unfortunately the main thing that has helped has been the way other veterans have said thanks for my service and I can only hope that the last couple of generations of young veterans will be treated with the respect that they'll deserve
Right there with ya, Gary. In the 70s, I wore out three Eat A Peach albums.
RIP Dickey. I remember seeing my bro open up for you shortly after I turned 18. Some of my best memeories were around your music. Rest easy friend.
Thanks Jeremy
And on that bombshell, Rest in Peace Dickey
The man who inspired my guitar playing has left this earth…Rest in Peace Dickey Betts
I feel the same. He was one of the best in my personal Guitar World. He made 80 years - I don't know if I can reach this. So R.I.P. Mister Dickey Betts!
Same
What??? I had no idea he was sick. Oh, man. That's a blow. What a legend.
@@incarnateTheGreat What a legend - YES!
He reminds me of Jerry Garcia..happy clean sound !
I'm 74 and have grown up with the best music there could be and Allman Brothers was always my favorite
I was stationed outside of Macon in Oct 71 when Duane died in the motorcycle wreck. A really dark day when the news came out in that whole area. Was topic of discussion in small groups, bars, clubs etc. But the guys went on later to celebrate his legacy.
Amen to that brother I'm 67 and I fully agree with you
I am 68 and the Allman Brothers were always my favorite. I have seen alot of bands live over the years but only one ever gave me goosebumps watching them and that is Dickie Betts playing this song back in the day.
...74 here also...
I'm 62 me too
This song is an instant happiness drug. One of the most soaring rock guitar melodies ever written, and that incredible piano solo on the album by the great Chuck Leavell was made up on the spot.
Mike Lawler played the piano live here, i think. I like Chuck Leavell too, of course 😀
Above
It is.
But this performance is FAR too up tempo! 😅
yes on the piano solo, so wonderfully played from the heart/soul. the whole ABB was just so darn talented, Duane A. being my favorite.
@@Catherine-u8l I disagree what only prooves that ya can't discuss taste or color.:)
So many things can be said about this performance, but damn! Dickey Betts is a wizard.
Ahh yes. Letting the music speak for itself.
Unbelievable. Masterful.
@@kathycaldwell7126 here we are almost 40 years later in awe of this guy...
Saw Dickey Betts once and that's all it took
His guitar duets with Duanne Allman, and here with Dan Toler, or most actually, with Warren Haynes were pure magic
RIP, Dickey. Thanks for the music.
Georgia will always love and cherish the greatest band of all time The Allman Brothers
So will Florida.
I could just sit here and listen to that on repeat for the rest of the day and never get tired of it. Dickey and Greg could pull off that rockstar look to a tee. RIP Dickey, among guitar players, we knew that you were the greatest.
And I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound Bus rolling down Highway 41... Thanks for the Memories..
This song is always in the road trip rotation.. nothing like bombing down an old country road listening to this masterpiece!
Rest easy Mr. Betts. Thank you so much for the music that was the soundtrack of our lives. ✌️
LOVE this song, one of the best instrumental songs of all time.
Oh, it’s my favorite.
But, this is way too up tempo!
RIP fellers. Thanks for all the amazing music
They're all jamming in heaven:)
You know your a real musician if you sound better live than you do in recording
*You're
+Hunter Angstadt what about DJ nowaday? :D
Yes, you are.
Hunter Angstadt hell yeah!
Hunter Angstadt for sure these days are long gone.... SAD
Music DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER than this.
I will always love to watch Dickie play guitar. Fortunate to have seen him live a couple of times.
Tonight! I move my eyes...
Richard vandalises a road
and... James says "Cow"
and a wild wild animal cries 'Claaaaarksssssonnnnnn!' :)
Just perfect!
Jeremy I look at a man
James hears the sound of a distressed animal Hammond you idiot
And Richard look at a statue and says What!
"Cow"
"Tonight, I Point At A Thing, Richard Walks through a Shop and James has some Bunanas."
That was incredible. The bass player is off the hook. I've never seen/heard anything like him.
10/10. that bass sound is sadly not picked up well. I imagine 4 10's just pointed directly at him on stage feeling the bass. Plus that guitar is known for it's low end. I hope they had some massive subs at the live show.
It's an alembic
Bass player killed it 😎👍
Who is the bass player? He’s smokin’ it!
@@marshallwalker1627 David Goldflies
unqualifiably beautiful. stunning. back when musicians were the real thing.
i noticed the crowd keeping time with the music. everyone had a great time, i think.
A true legend, gone to ramble on…
From the GENUINE rock and roll golden decades forever and ever till I die!
Several years ago, the Nordstroms in Redondo Beach CA had someone playing a grand piano on the first floor -- added a bit class, I suppose. I went there one day and the pianist was playing Jessica -- switching the lead guitar riffs, and the piano solo and the bass -- all on the grand piano! It was the most wonderful musical moment I had ever seen! Brilliant! When he finished, I was the only one to applaud him. Everyone else was busy browsing for shirts and earrings and shoes.... idiots.
Yes, people aren't aware of went into that piece of music. Same thing for me up in the Colo mountains. Blessing for those who catch such rarity really!
Great memory. Thanks!!
Fucking idiots... What a moment, man...
No appreciation for great music
Hawthorne & Artesia Blvds.
_TOP GEAR forever..._
Popular music today, of all genres, is not even close to the quality of this era.
One of the greatest songs ever, this live style shows what the true talent is.
TONIGHT ON TOP GEAR ⚙️!
RIP Dickie Betts. Damn....
The solo @ 3:38 is some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard in my 24 years. Dickey is a beast!
Congrats on your 25th birthday.
@@GHP99 thanks for the late birthday wish
It's clear that he was the fan favorite in the band at this point. Just listen to the crowd when he starts and finishes that solo...he was a bona fide guitar hero
Southern rock at its best, glad i could see them for years &years great guitarists.😊
If you get a chance check out the Allman's Bros playing Blue Sky at SUNY Sunnybrook 1971. DIckey and Duane play with more emotion in thay version than seems humanly possible. It's on RUclips, cheers
It don't get any better than this. Real musician playing their heart and soul out. This was and will always be the best jam band of all time. Duane Allman was a genuine musucal genius, 2 drums, 2 guitars, keyboards, bass guitar
And then the soulfull voice of Greg Allman and the country voice of Dickey. Great song writers, great musicians. Made all the other greats at the time stand up a listen, Clapton, Page, Beck, Hendrix, Terry Kath who tends to get over looked by most( Chicago fame ) was Inspired by Duane Allman. What we lost when the 3 great guitar players Allman, Hendrix and Kath died at such young ages. But what was left by these 3 greats will always be recaptured everytime someone hears them for the first time. Betts will be there some day. Saw him couple years back he still has the groove.
I’m glad Top Gear has brought this great song to a larger audience!
I suppose that show had to be good for something.
I can't Express how amazing Dickey Betts is on that Guitar! He was 1 good looking Southern boy! I wish I grew up in this era!
Since he wrote it, in only stands to reason right?
The Allman Brothers - Best.Band.Ever. ❤️🔥❤️🔥💖💗💓
The greatest instrumental... In the world!
I can't disagree with that. My favorite, anyway.
Jessica & Mountain Jam - could listen to both of them all day.
Anybody got anything good like this?
That, and Reelin' In the Years. Both favorites of mine at least.
They said it right decades late, when they recorded "Good, clean, FUN"!
I could watch him all day. Thanks Dickey!
Damn. Who was here and had you heard this song before? I’ve been listening to Allman Brothers forever. It’s only been later in life that one can *fully* appreciate the talent here. Insane.
I would give anything to go back to this day.

If you don’t dance when this is playing there is something wrong. I love it!!
He is just amazing isn’t he what a sense of melody what a player so under-acknowledged.
Was in the car listening to Allman Bros on the CD player. Came home and dialed them up on you tube and just stumbled on to this and realized I was at that show. I was at UF from 1980 to 84 and saw them at the band shell. WOW!!!
What's a CD player?
@@prettygirlus9008 It's like a record player,. only without the needle.😆

This is just insane!! What a jam session!
You can't get any better than dueling guitars, powered by masterful keyboards, backed by a wall of sound of percussion, and all driven as a tribute to the memory of Duane Allman.
No, this song is about Dickey's daughter.
@@pauljordan4452 Southern power rock in general. Lots of albums came out paying tribute to Duane Allman. Captain Beyond for example by Capricorn Records.
Usually, when I watch music videos like this on RUclips, I scroll through the comments while listening, but I could not take my eyes off of Dickey's amazing guitar playing till the very end... I know someone below said it, but the truth is that eyes closed, I can't tell that the music is live...
top👍 des tops ❤des tops des tops ❤💚meilleurs de Allman brothers band
merci gringo, 👍
Tears of joy everytime I come back to this particular rendition. Such perfection and inspiration, it's ridiculous how good they were those days. You can, not just hear, but feel the waves of enthusiasm in the crowd, specially in the solos. They were tight as a tourniquet!!
Shit man, RIP Gregg. Thanks for giving us this song. My daughter, Jessica, and I, are going to enjoy it for years to come.
Dickie Betts wrote this song. Inspired and named for his little girl, Jessica.
Inca Moran he said Rip Gregg and you somehow made this about Duane?
Little Wing, Cliffs of Dover and Jessica! My 3 favorite instrumentals ever. This one is brilliant live! Wow
Awesome live performance. This song always makes me think of a sunny spring day. (I know it's about the little daughter of fead quitarist Dickey Betts but still....it's sunshine to me )
Daughters can be small balls of sunshine, no?
RIP, no wonder I named my daughter “Jessica” ❤❤❤
the best guitar instrumental in the history of music awesome allman bros
Rest in Peace 🙏🏻 Dickey Betts
Hard to put into words how good this is .
Nobody can.
It leaves us speachless.
This and "Marquee Moon" by Television are the two greatest examples of dueling lead guitar in American history. RIP Dickey Betts
Them Doors d'un Sum amazingly magnifique ditties.
Jus'sayin
its amazing that there's not a word in the song, and you don't really notice it the first few times you hear the song. the guitars do all the talking!
one of the most outstanding instrumental tunes of my lifetime. (I'm nearly 70), all the better for being live outdoors. An incredible band with Dickie Betts a master of his trade.
I bought this record, (the album "Brothers and Sisters"), with some money my Dad gave me for my 17th Birthday when it came out. He knew I'd pick my own present better than a parent and I rushed down to the record shop in Dublin.
A mere 49 years ago! First time I've seen it live ... amazing, but a pity Duane wasn't alive then. That would have been something.
I didn't realise that Jessica was Dickey Betts' young daughter until I read this. That must be her photo ... aged about six ... on the cover of the LP ... which I still have, of course.
Some years later, the BBC picked this song as the title music for their motor enthusiasts show "Top Gear", which lives on in 2022 ... as does Jessica!
Love this song. Love it,love it love it. Today and forever.
Sad day 18/4/2024. Dicky Betts passed away rock in heaven now with the angels 😇 ❤
The greatist Greg, Dewayn and Betts.

RIp Dickie Betts....first time hearing you ,but you are one great guitar player.❤
I've enjoyed and like this tune since it 1st came out so much.... when my daughter was born in 1984, I named her after it. This is a timeless instrumental...... and has stood the test of time since it's first release.
The music of my life! Thank You Dickey Betts...RIP
What a lineup!!! Love this era.
This video is great and Dickey kicks ass on that guitar. Watched this think a bunch, always great !! How hell could 403 people give it thumbs down ??
those boys could play!
I watch this in wonder. 2 drummers, a congo player, 2 bitchen guitars, great bass player, organ and piano. It's the freaking Allman Brothers! Everyone in the crowd is grooving, but I'm not sure how many realized what a special and amazing concert this was!
...Dave Goldflies on bass is just great! I always enjoy bands with two drummers...
This is the short era when Jaimoe wasn't in the band. Who's the other drummer? Is it David Toler or Mike Lawler?
I'm curious why Jaimoe wasn't in the band for two short years in the early 80's. It seems he was there from beginning to end despite all the other personnel changes.
I can't think that they don't are with us ever more. Thanks to their music, they live allways on my mind. Dickie Betts and Dan Toler duos are legend.
wow even better than any recorded version... blown away sheer precision for everyone and soul in abundance
Such a great bass part on this song.
Dickey has such an amazing guitar tone!
Nothing more Florida than that. R.I.P. Dickey Betts.
Dickey totally nails it on this version; best you'll find.........
Some say… He wrote the greatest guitar instrumental in history.❤
Rest well Greg.
I love this song because my name is Jessica! ❤❤❤
Such great great musicians in this band & how they came together to make it all work how they held it together & remained so timeless & soulful & united!!! Anyone who's ever tried to get a real band together knows just how difficult it can be to really do it, to keep tremendous egos & creative differences in check, to record & produce your best, & then to actually go on tour & perform your utmost you're either born for this or your not. Most aren't. & not to make the rest of us musicians & artists feel bad that we're not of that level, it just makes someone like me appreciate bands like these even more.
