Same. Never seem to get over it. That song is the reason I'm a Rush fan, and it's still my favorite song of theirs. Among all the great stuff in this song, Neil has some of his most bonkers chaotic fills during the second verse.
Vital signs was the first Rush song I ever heard and was my favorite Rush song for a long while. At first, I did not know the name of the song. So, I bought the Signals tape because I thought that song must be on it. "Signals get crossed." But it was not. Signals ended up being one of my favorite albums ever. BTW this was all before the internet so I could not just look up Rush reactions on RUclips or something.
I don’t really know how to say it right. But, it REALLY sounds like THE END. I mean, you can’t put another song after that. It HAS to be the end. I don’t know.
Every song on this album is a masterpiece. It just keeps on giving. I've been listening to this album regularly since its release, and it never ever gets old. 😎
I love to be the first to comment on this. Great reaction. BTW, even though it has been largely overlooked, the lyrics in "Witch Hunt" are among some of the most timeless of Neil Peart's poetry with special relevance today in our turbulent times. "Quick to judge/Quick to anger/Slow to understand;/Ignorance, and prejudice, and fear/Walk hand in hand." So true.
I agree the lyrics to witch hunt are very poignant today... but so are his lyrics on 2112.. "bleeding hearts and begging hands will only cry out for more""
@@markferrett700 It seems clear to me that Neil matured and moved past the Ayn Rand crap. In one of his last interviews he described himself as a ‘Bleeding Heart Libertarian’. So pretty sure his opinion of bleeding hearts changed.
@@robertlester425 I get that. Not so sure the Ayn Rand stuff is crap though, she was an astute visionary who foretold the dangers of communism AND dictatorships. Its a shame right wing groups align themselves to her because she was anything but a fascist. My point was Neil was an unbalanced character in many ways. For example he couldn't really deal with public adoration or interviewers yet wrote songs with what can only be described as having "messages" or points of view to the very masses he tried to avoid. If that's not unbalanced then what is !? Bottom line is he was an amazing poet and musician . We all think we knew him or his personality . I think we would be shocked if we really knew.
@@markferrett700 Good point. No argument on Neil being an amazing poet and musician. Also good point on the fact that we all probably tend to think we know much more about him than we actually do. My opinion of Ayn Rand is just that- my own. I actually began reading her work BECAUSE of Rush back in the late 70s. And for a long time held her in high regard. She was very appealing to my conservative teen sensibilities. But with life experience and hopefully some wisdom, I now find her Objectivist philosophy to be a hollow, one-dimensional view of the world. I assumed Neil likely went through a similar transformation on that subject- but how should I know?
Thanks. For some reason, I never tire of Rush reactions. In this case, it's easy to see why. The music & lyrics - especially on "The Camera Eye" & "Witch Hunt" are nothing less than enthralling, majestic, and beautiful. Awesome! tavi.
Though I love the whole album, "The Camera Eye" always draws me in as my favourite track amongst an album full of gems - so good!! Never tire of hearing it. So many layers to the music, lyrics and production. So glad I managed to see them play it live on tour along with the rest of the album - an experience I'll never forget for sure 🎶🎶❤❤😍👍 And still so many great tracks for you discover Tim! 😎
19 studio albums to their name, and i still get asked to name my favourite Rush song. I managed to compile a top ten of the band's catalogue in no particular order, but couldn't nail that number one Rush song of all time. Up until now that is! "The Camera Eye" isn't just the perfect Rush song, it's the perfect song full stop. Bass, lead, percussion, and vocals have never coalesced so perfectly to my ears, and easily equal anything the big prog guys have put out. 'Im not declaring that Rush are better than Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ad infinitum, just that this composition can hold its own with anything in the rock Canon. A scintillating work of art for sure!
Enjoy your videos. Now it's time for you to watch all of these songs and concert and find out what Masters they really are of their craft. As a musician you will really appreciate that. And on another note they were really coming into their own as a Rangers and songwriters in this album and it's just amazing how three guys can come up with a song like Witch Hunt with all the layers and all the sounds and a song that's really all over the chart, they somehow pave away straight through it and keep it interesting through the whole song. Never be another band like Rush
Got to catch the Time Machine tour in Phoenix, when they played the entire album, in order. And that was only about a third of the show. Absolutely spectacular. Then caught The Camera Eye live one more time on the R40 tour. RIP Professor!
Absolutely love this album it brings me back to my youth, that being said, I’ve finally decided after 42 years of listening to these three guys that Camera Eye is my favorite song of theirs and the outro for Vital Signs is my favorite of any song I’ve ever listened to period. Every time I see one of your reactions come up on my feed, I’m there. Really missed you on here brother I’m glad you’re doing ok. 😎
So this arguably the last song Rush made that was lengthy continuational theme. NY -London. A case could be made in Signals for Analog Kid to Digital Man but they are separate tunes. This is a longer comprehensive piece.
I hope you're reading the magnificent lyrics whilst you listen to the Rush catalog?! Neil's prolific words are crucial to "getting it!" He remains profound and prophetic!
I wish you would check out savatage they are right up your alley and you'd be impressed. My suggestion for a starting point would be chance of there hand full of rain album.
Thanks for the great video and commentary! A band nonpareil. Technically, lyrically, vocally and creatively as good a band that has ever graced a stage. We shall not see their like again.
Great reaction! Rush did the entire Moving Pictures album on their Time Machine tour Cleveland in 2011. Check it out. To see them play these tracks live is unbelievable 👍👍
Side two of this album is an underrated gem. It's got its work cut out for it because side one is start to finish 4 staples of Classic Rock Radio. With the weirdness being that none of those songs are really classic rock in its traditional form.. they sneak in an awful lot of progressive elements under the noses of some pop hooks to make the medicine go down a little smoother. Anyway.. side to this album has some great great songs but it's overshadowed by just how legendary side one is. It's great to hear you taking the plunge here. Cheers. M.
Seriously. Is there another tband that sounds like this? Sounding so perfect together? I literally love hundreds of bands, but nothing else remotely sounds like them. They were a singular band with a singular sound even though the “sound” was never stagnant.
Many say that Rush peaked at this point or with this album. There’s no denying it was their most popular, commercially successful album yet I truly believe several releases post Moving Pictures are equal to if not exceeding in respect to songwriting, musicianship, and production/presentation. None of those sold as well OR are as well known/recognized by casual to super fans, but with each successive release, there was always growth and improvement in areas that were achieved on previous releases. That’s what Rush is, was and always does otherwise they wouldn’t have kept going for not just years but decades after this.🤘🖖✌️🥁🎸🎹🎤🥇🇨🇦🎼🌎
@@dolley70 I don’t either. Every time I saw them in concert they were better than the last time, and every album/cd they released, I loved more than the last because one it was new stuff to experience and digest, and two, it meant a new tour without a doubt would be coming up. 👌👍🤘🎸🥁🎤🎹
3:02 I always thought the opening guitar riffs were done on a 12 string, does anyone know? Edit: 7:37 just when you say “that’s a cool sound, man” I’m pretty sure that’s 12 string
today is 9/2/23 what album are you playing these days? I'm anxious to hear your comments to Clockwork Angels, especially Headlong Flight and The Garden... cheers
Getting mixed messages here, you sai it was perfection, but did you like it. Pulling you leg… however so Mr might say it is the best Rock album… I can’t say that but it is in the top 5!😊
Camera Eye has always been my least favorite song on the album from the first time I ever heard it - not that it's a bad song but I just like all the others better. Originally Tom Sawyer and Limelight were my Top 2 but for the last 10 years or more Vital Signs and Witch Hunt have flip flopped back and forth as my top 2
What is not communicated here is that RUSH sounded just as clean and on point live as they did in the studio. 3 Masters in perfect balance.
Agreed. They played live what nobody else has even come close to. Imo.
Camera Eye solo still gives the chills after all these years
For some reason, RUSH never gets old.
Cheers!
I always feel like it’s the fastest 10 minutes that ever exist

It was a fitting transition to the next album, Signals
And it was inspired and developed by “The Fabulous Men”

“Quick to judge, quick to anger, but slow to understand…
Ignorance and predjudice and fear walk hand in hand!”
In my opinion, Geddy Lee's greatest vocal performance is on the studio version of "The Camera Eye".
Yes, it is worth saying what people have not commented much of , is the production of this album. Terry Browns pinnacle achievement
ABSOLUTELY. Sad that he passed away.
@@dolley70 Terry Brown did not pass away.
Rush is always BEST served LIVE!!!

The drumming on witch hunt is immense
The tone of his toms for me is right up there with Bangkok as my favorite sound.

As a drummer can't count how many times I've air drummed Witch Hunt sauced up on Bacardi !!!
That was a fine brochette of Rushness!

Perfection...complete and total, perfection.
One of the greatest sides of vinyl ever!
I love this new format you're doing, 3 songs at a time! Boom!
Also Vital SIgns definitely has my favorite Rush outro - with Neil going nuts !!!
Glad your back. Keep on Rushing
The tone on Alex guitar in Camera Eye has always resonated with me. So powerful.
Legendary.... That's all I got!
Glad to have you back on here. Rush deserves a special type of devotion. lol
Good to see you back strong. Nothing better than Rush to get you in the groove. Thanks

The reaction at 20:10 is dead on me working from home and listening to RUSH during my shift 🤘🏻💯
One incredible fuckin album how can anyone top.this definitely left thier mark in rock
A jam session from the band. F-N A. Awsome music!
Geddy's vocals on Witch hunt, Vital signs and Red Barchetta are among the best of their catalog. Although the vocals on the Presto album are amazing.

1981 I wore this record the fuck out
Great driving song! Slap the bass.

Your cool rush is the best😊
Gotta love how their songs don't sound all the same.
I personally think Permanent Waves is more perfection than Moving Pictures. But to each his own. Love the reactions!
Geddy also plays foot pedals to add addherence
so he plays 4 instruments at once
That bit of reggae in Vital Signs is much better than it was in Spirit of Radio
