Yes I love Ally Spending Buckets! I was no longer comfortable carrying cash envelopes around so I now use the spending buckets as digital cash envelopes!
That’s awesome. I was so excited when I saw they were offering them. I’m glad to know you’ve liked using them!!
Great Info. Now I know how to use this.
Glad it was helpful!
Ive had the account for awhile but haven't tried the spending buckets. I had no clue how they worked. Thanks for explaining!!!
Yes! If you do try them out let me know if you like them.
Life changing. Thank you! I saw something about the spending buckets but didn’t look into it. This is awesome🎉
I’m glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks for this video. I’m totally switching to Ally Bank from SoFi love the idea of not having to manually transfer money to my checking account when I’m going food shopping or paying utilities when I have money set aside for those things.
I'm glad the video was helpful. I've been using their online savings for years, but am fairly new to their checking. Let me know how Ally works out for you!
Love the savings buckets in the savings account, great way to ear mark money for different savings:-) Not sure about in the checking account??? Also love the checking round up from checking to savings account:-)
I 100% agree. I absolutely LOVE the savings buckets and the round-up is a great feature. After testing them out, I don't really use the spending buckets.
Thanks for the info! I’ve found the bucket very helpful. Another downside is when an envelopes are low, the system automatically pulls from the larger envelope. It says: We shifted some things. But if that is actually the envelope you wanted it to go to, you cannot now assign it since there not enough money there due to the auto-assigning!!! I end up transferring funds from savings just to officially assign the money and the try to transfer the remainder fund back to my savings. So confusing
That is confusing. I like the idea of spending buckets...but after months of testing it out I find I don't use them a lot. I prefer to track my spending with a budget and use their savings buckets for sinking funds. Thanks for sharing!
With Ally, can I transfer to another bank? Say Wells Fargo? If so, how? Zelle or transaction? Thanks
Yes- good question. With Ally’s checking you can link external accounts and send money via ach transactions or you can send money via Zelle.
i pay most of my utilities, subscriptions, etc using my credit cards for points. How do you use the Ally spending buckets if doing that - manually remove money when something is paid with your credit card? Or just leave the individual bills out and just include the CC bills?
Either one of those options would work. I personally think I'd manually remove it, but I would say whatever is easiest for you and works for you.
this is so nice, this is exactly what i was looking for. But what is the process for moving the money from the spending buckets to a credit card account? I pay all of my expenses with a credit card and I want it to be easy to pay off the credit card.
Hmmm....the buckets are meant to be used with your debit card. If you want to use your credit card you'd have to manually transfer the money from your ally spending buckets to your unbucketed spending. Then, when you pay your credit card it would come out of unbucketed spending and keep your buckets accurate. Does that make sense?
wait so if theres 2 transactions that show up as unbucketed from the same store you cant set one transaction to one bucket the the other to a different?
If you are categorizing them yourself, you can put the transactions from the same store into different buckets. If you want to 'track' a business (where the money automatically comes out from a bucket) you can only choose 1 category for a business.
For example...WalMart. If you track walmart to groceries it will only come out of the groceries spending bucket. If you don't 'track' walmart and it comes out of uncategorized, you can move 2 different transactions into 2 different buckets.
I hope that answers your questions.
If Walmart is tracked to groceries but I get a prescription there one day, can I manually switch that one transaction?
@laurenweiner8450 yes- it will automatically put it into groceries, but you can manually adjust it afterwards
So the buckets help to budget? Bc I’m not good with money tbh. And if ally will automatically transfer money to my spending buckets for expenses and such. Will I know what’s left for fun money?
In theory the spending buckets could do this. I have used it for two different buckets, but I don't use this account as my main spending account...so I don't know how practical it is if you're using this as your main spending. I personally prefer a budgeting app. But you could do what you're saying.
I have not done the checking buckets, but do have Ally Savings buckets.
I love their savings buckets. I’m still learning the ropes with the spending buckets.
@@BrittanyFlammerI am a HUGE FAN of the Savings Buckets but, I haven't been able to figure out how to set up the Spending Buckets in the Ally app.
@Raney29Forever here’s how to do it in the app:
Open up the app, choose your checking account, then you can toggle between account activity and spending buckets. If you select spending buckets then you can choose add bucket.
I hope that helps!
I have it set up for spending. If my husband goes to lunch at Taco Bell I want it to come from his bucket. Then if I go to lunch at Taco Bell I want it to come from my money…..is that possible?
There's no way to separate it coming from the same account. All Taco Bell would come out of the same bucket.
This sounds kind of convoluted for what it is. They really need to just give people a cheap version of their debit card to use with these, since its basically a mini account anyway.
I also think it's a bit convoluted. I don't use the spending buckets for much - but I've been happy with the checking account in general and i LOVe their savings buckets.
please upgrade your mic.
Yep- this was an old video, I’ve since upgraded.
Buckets suck
Sorry to hear- I’m guessing you had a bad experience with them!
How? Let us hear it brother.
@@brainthebrian3690 it’s convoluted and doesn’t really work. For example you can make a bucket then it will fill up and you will have to move rhe money to another bucket. So you won’t know if you spent money on something say groceries or not because youll move the money you spent to something else. Buy groceries entertainment bucket fills up. I was a nightmare… if you’re going to bank with ally I would actually suggest opeing multiple checking account then just labeling each account what it’s intended. First checking account nickname it bills. Second one nickname it entertainment. So on and so forth depending on your needs. Overall ally was ok but the buckets were hands down the worst “feature” of the app.
