Maybe I missed it, but any reason the hack squat setup is using the landmine + J cup combo vs a Henny strap? The landmine side def seems more stable but the J cup portion less so while the loaded bar is resting on it and angled like that. Def intrigued about picking up all the various bits and pieces to do it though since I’ve a lot of the parts already.
Great hack Kurt. I’ve actually done hack squats and calf raises in almost the exact same way except I just use a Viking press attachment. I cut a cheap barbell squat pad in half and put them on the inside handles of the attachment.
It’s content and products like this that will truly innovate the home gym space. An alternative to a leg press and hack squat are on of the biggest needs in the home gym space. And like you touched on some of the other set ups and alternatives are too complicated for most to be practical. Thank you!
Awesome set up. I do something very similar with a landmine. Only difference is I use a titan fitness Viking press attachment with pool noodles as padding.
I like it! For more safety I think you should set up one of the safety arms so if you get stuck you got the arm to set the bar on. Otherwise fantastic!
That's fairly creative Kurtis, the only day I actually train at my commercial Gym is when I train legs, because I like using the Hack Squat and Leg Press and Smith Machine, unfortunately I have no room in my Garage for these machines. (LoL). I was wondering if you could put some Mutant Handles (7 inch/12 inch) in that last hole beside the shoulders pads for more stability and grip your hands? I use mine for my Lever arms as I don't like the original Lever arms, but I love my custom knurled Mutant metals ones.
I’ll give it a try! I actually had an idea to customize a set of rack rollers by taking off the forward pad and replacing that space with a knurled handle portion..maybe even bend them down like on a transformer bar
@@TheKurtlocker Yeah, I don't know how doable it would be. I realize that I can't just mount a landmine on my basement concrete wall, because it's not like there's a socket that secures the lever arm to the fulcrum. Ideally, a longer jammer arm that I could mount on my wall for the right angled height (I'm 6' 7") and then some sort of loading mechanism behind me, like those linebacker attachments that Titan sells. Idk, I wonder how doable it would be for home gym, probably too unrealistic honestly. Your video here looks like a much better hack for the home gym.
Very cool set up of a movement many people miss when they start their home gym. How does it feel on your knees, would squat wedges turned around feel even better? It almost looks like a sissy-hack squat combo move, but it also could just be the angle of the camera. Always cooking up some fun training stuff in your small garage gym. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Happy thanksgiving to you as well! 🦃 squat wedges would be nice but aren’t necessary. Knees felt great the whole time. I just snap crackle and pop a lot!
I agree safety first. I have a traditional landmine were it sits on the floor. I use the side of a safety spotter arm to hold the bar at whatever elevation I decide on. This allows me to do almost the same thing (not quite as high). If you have a smith machine you could use that bar as your safety to support the bar using a landmine as well. If you do that I suggest putting foam padding (pool noodle or plumbing pipe insulation) over the smith machine bar so it doesn't get scratched up. Just cut a straight line thru one side of the padding so it can easily be taken on and off the smith machine bar.
Great idea for smaller spaces. BWTG is the best! I have a custom rack, 10" log and many other pieces from Dean and they are superb quality. Supporting a veteran owned small business is icing on the cake. 🗽
if you turn around and stand on a plate this setup would be great for calf raises. have you tried calf raises yet? currently doing landmine calf raises and this would be quite an improvement.
Ive been intrigued by this attachment. I think if i were to do it, id have the landmine facing the side. That way, i can have a safety strap underneath the bar on the opposite side as a bail out to catch the bar if something happens. Does that make sense?
Great video. Regarding safety and if injured and not getting help until found, I've wondered if anyone uses an old baby monitor as a home gym monitor for that reason. Seems like not a bad idea.
So true about coming into your workout with a game plan. It’s so much better to set up your next exercise in between sets of you current exercise. Helps keep hour hr up during your entire workout
Man I appreciate the info about setting up for your next movement. I wonder if videos about “how to quickly get through my workout” would be a good video or possibly series? And if people don’t like one movement they can possibly pull from your ideas from others. Just a thought. Great stuff/video (as always!)
@@TheKurtlocker Awesome. With people trying to fit as much into their day as they can it may send more viewers your way too. Win/win for everyone. Take care brother.
I’m glad there are people out there creating implements etc, and people who figure out ways to use them...but yes, it sorta seems complicated to me. But cool set up. Happy Thanksgiving, Kurtis.

@Invictus13666 it’s all good man. I took your comment productively and I appreciate it. I think that making something as simple as possible can be the difference between success and failure. If I can make this easier, I will.
What do you think? Too complicated?

You could use a spotter arm below the j cup to catch the weight should you fail. Stay safe out there
The Henny setup requires a lot more weight to get an effective load through the ROM
That’s an awesome idea. I’m also toying with adding leg rollers vertically as a back rest. They’re taller and may act as a safety themselves.
Great hack Kurt. I’ve actually done hack squats and calf raises in almost the exact same way except I just use a Viking press attachment. I cut a cheap barbell squat pad in half and put them on the inside handles of the attachment.
Had another comment like that. They used pool noodles as the pads.

Thanks for the compliment. Hopefully this will inspire some people to either try or innovate using other things.

Pool noodles to the rescue!
@@TheKurtlocker haha. They do save my shoulders. Poolnoodles and sports tape do a lot in my gym.
Nice setup. Got the fig-jammer and a few rollers as well. Going to implement this into my routine. Also, your knees have tons snap, crackles and pops.
I’m an old combat vet. These things happen…dang rucksacks
Doing the Lord’s work. Bring on the more non-Pillar 4 reviews!
Bahahahaha. Truth. They’re likely not interested in me though
What brand roller pads are those? Black widow doesn't seem to sell any.
The black rollers are from Surplus Strength. The red ones I have are from Straydog
I like it! For more safety I think you should set up one of the safety arms so if you get stuck you got the arm to set the bar on. Otherwise fantastic!

why not just hold the bar in your hands infront of you and do the squat?
Because it doesn’t isolate the movement in the same way a hack squat does. A landmine squat is a different and unique movement

Can a front squat be executed on this piece of equipment. Maybe you can do a video on it.Please reply.
It won’t be a 1:1 front squat, but using the right angles you could get a quad dominant squat easily.
Cool Kurt.
Thanks
