Thanks so much for this tutorial. My first batch came out great and I'm getting compliments every time I wear the earrings. One person thought they were real turquoise! Did some with liquid clay as a sealer and some with satin polycrylic (which is what I usually use). I'll be experimenting with colors since there are so many colors of turquoise. Love all your tutorials!
Absolutely love it!! This tutorial is do much more simple that so many others an looks so amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this I can't wait to get started!!
I just got clay and my mom asked me to make her a pendant and sent me a picture of a turquoise stone, no clue how to do that but glad this video exists
I love this whole "less mess" way to compress the pieces together. I wonder of using mica powder and paint would work properly? Perhaps goldleaf would be an easier choice?
@@JessamaTutorials i love this thank you so much. And I made it all in little plastic baggies! Brilliant! I used mica powder in gold in one bag and bronze in another. Mixed the paint in the bag also because I hate gloves too plus now with Covid I would hate to waste gloves right now 😑 I would feel awful. Thank you for all you do and your videos and sharing your creativity! I am so grateful. 🥰
Do they bond well enough with just paint? Wouldn't pigmented liquid clay or paint mixed with bake and bond work better for strength? Your work looks great and seems to hold up, so I'll just shush...
@@JessamaTutorials Cool! Thank you, I'm definitely going to try this with my niece. She loves the kind of work you do and and always wants exact colors or styles of rocks/crystals to work with, and now she can just make her own! Thanks for sharing and replying! :D
Hi Samantha, love that necklace at the end of the tutorial. Been working for a few days now at making faux turquoise using different materials. Got some acceptable results but so far nothing has completely satisfied me. Was watching some tutorials on real turquoise and was wondering how to incorporate rock deposits into my stones. I just not sure what to use to get that done and the technique of introducing it into my work. Got any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance.
Hi @jessama I tried this and the paint didn't dry. Even after a week of keeping it sealed up. The effect was great and I liked playing around with it but I was really upset at how messy and wet it was. Unless I used paper to roll etc it was smudging alot. Do you think liquid black clay would work better than black acrylic. Is it the acrylic paint I used perhaps that was bad? It was just standard acrylic.
I tried this method last night for the first time! Thank you for posting, great tutorial. So I’m cutting into the cane today and the black paint inside is still somewhat wet. What could I do to dry it out? Heat gun maybe? Or just let all the slices sit before I put them on my slab. Thanks so much
HELP!!!!! I am on my third try making turquoise, the way you make it here and it seems no matter how much time I give the paint to dry, (I've given it up to 48 hours,} I find that it is tacky to the touch and the paint comes right off the blue. I am using Premo clay and I've tried two different paints. Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea on what I might be doing wrong.
It sounds like you might have had a reaction between your clay and the paint. I've had this happen before with Cernit. Here are a few brands of paint I know work. Americana acrylic paint. Atelier fine artists paint. Both of those work just fine. Are you using acrylic paint? I know that oil paint isn't good.
Yes, it was an acrylic paint and now that I want to know the brand, I can't find the bottle. I'm sure I threw it somewhere in frustration. I just went over to Amazon and purchased a primary colors set of the Americana acrylic paint. Thank you for getting back to me so fast, I love your tutorials; thanks to you I can now make a skinner blend :-) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my next shot at making the faux turquoise will be successful.
The only thing to be aware of with the Americana paint is when mixing it with alcohol ink it will turn goopy. The alcohol ink has to be mixed in while wet though. It's fine if the alcohol ink is dry.
I'd make sure to use soft clay before making the turquoise so that it's still soft by the time you start slicing it. You'll still want to test it though. I don't work with pens.
The clay does need to be baked just like any other polymer clay after the paint has dried. Are you using sculpey 3? I wouldn't use that clay. It's very brittle. If you're talking about premo then sure you can use it. :d
Cut slices from the cane and add those slice to a sheet of black clay. Use a piece of paper to burnish the slices to that they lay flat and even on the sheet. You can then cut pieces out with your cutters.
I only apply the resin to the flat beads as it would run off on the domed beads. I have an in depth tutorial on how to use ice resin. www.etsy.com/au/listing/564016605/tips-and-tricks-walk-through-on-ice?ref=shop_home_active_22
It depends on what I'm selling. You can have a look at my Etsy shop if you want to see how much a sell each piece for. www.etsy.com/au/shop/JessamaDesign
I’ve done this with layers of gold acrylic gold mica and topped with liquid clay to help bond. They come out so good.
I saw a tutorial like this many years ago..still one of my favorite ways to make faux turquoise.
Wow love how beautiful it came out!!!

I just wanted to say his beautiful the opening pieces are - well, that and I'm awfully glad you made this video.
I was surprised this actually worked. Great job.
II first saw your Vlog on your Channel last week ..Great tutorial & lovely work
I will try this x

Brilliant. The finished examples underpin the whole process. Very helpful. I'll give it a go
:-)
They are all awesome . . Love love love love love them all.
Love it! The stones look real! I'm guessing that you used different paint colors on some of them, also, the shine is great! Like piece of glass! TFS
Génial merci beaucoup de votre tuto 🙏😁
Omg. So much playing. Just get to it.
I love this whole "less mess" way to compress the pieces together. I wonder of using mica powder and paint would work properly? Perhaps goldleaf would be an easier choice?
Mica powder can work, but it can be tricky as it causes the clay not to stick to each other. Gold leaf would be easier and would look cool.
Like liquid gold leaf or gold leaf sheets?
a beautiful collection Samantha, thanks for sharing
Thank you, looks amazing, very clearly explained.
Very nice! Thanks, Pam
I'm thinking you may have used some alcohol inks to achieve subtle color changes 🙂 Also some gold & silver leaf works nicely too.
Wow that's an amazing idea
Amazing!! Those are beautiful!!
Would it be possible to toss the clay bits with paint in the plastic bag instead of spreading the paint with a brush? Potentially less messy.
Yes. That would work really well now that you mention it.

Thank you 😊
I did and was just amazing!!! Thanks a lot ByMkae ❤️💋
I could combine such pebbles with genuine leather in the manufacture of my own jewelry. I think it would be very nice!
what a wonderful mess! all the best crafts are messy - love the result.
I agree
I agree!
So pretty! Can you roll it out after into a slab to. It different pieces from?
Brilliant! Very effective!
Sweet thank you
Amazing thank you so much !!

Is there a way to unconditon the clay since you condition it when mixing to get the right color?
What if you have multiple colors of clay when you add paint? would they mix and look awful? or make a rather cool effect?
Pretty
Do they bond well enough with just paint? Wouldn't pigmented liquid clay or paint mixed with bake and bond work better for strength?
Your work looks great and seems to hold up, so I'll just shush...
They bond really well with the paint. You can use liquid clay, but that will smudge the piece when you cut the cane.

realmente hermosos
Precioso!!! Ese fantástico brillo lo consigues con resina, barniz, puliendo? Muchas gracias.
Thank you. I get the shiny finish by sanding up to a really high grit and then buff.
Jessama Tutorials gracias ☺️
That was really cool! Could you make a tiny jewelry or trinket dish with that?
Sure. That would look really nice. I'll have to do a tutorial some time for that.
@@JessamaTutorials Thank you!
That would be super kewl! Barbie needs a jewelry box too.. right? Lol
Awesome
What did you do after with the log? How did you roll it out
I sliced it up, put them together and rolled out the slices, cutting them out to create the cabochons.

Do you have a tutorial to make the clay glossy like the necklace at the end of the clip? I learnt so much from you - thanks a ton!!!
Is this the tutorial you are looking for? ruclips.net/video/U2ydDEviJRk/видео.html
What did use to make glossy look ?
Hello mam please make a video faux coral tutorial
From Nepal
I did make one a few years back on youtube along with some faux lava beads. :D ruclips.net/video/a47LSyQ2HNQ/видео.html
hi, how did you make the other ones looking with more thinner cuts? Love your videos! Thanks.
How do they get hard and shiny???
I baked and sanded and buffed them.
I have a question, if you are not conditioning the polymer clay, how does this affect the finished piece, would it be brittle?
It doesn't effect the piece in this effect, but I wouldn't recommend doing it for all techniques.
Also, what sort of moulds do you recommend for that lovely cabs that you've done.
I used these molds. polymerclay.com.au/sculpey-oven-bake-silicone-cabochon-shapes-mold
Do you have a youtube on how to actually make the beads? Love the turquoise!
Not at this time, but I did recorded a tutorial showing it a day or two ago and should have it up soon.
The necklace you showed is lovely. what are you using to get them so shiny?
I start with 400 grit sand paper to 2000 grit sand paper and then buff.
Can you do a full tutorial on the stone cabachones you make. Do you use resin on top?
I sand each cabochon and then buff and apply renaissance wax.

You need to let the cane rest for a day or two so that the paint dries.

I'd like to make this and cover a slim line pen, is that possible since I have run it through pasta machine?
I'd make sure to use soft clay before making the turquoise so that it's still soft by the time you start slicing it. You'll still want to test it though. I don't work with pens.
thank you! you do beautiful work and usually my go to for tutorials.... best of luck!!
So then it can't be baked? Does it actually fully harden with it just being air dried? I'm using sculpey and I'd like to know if it'd work with it too
The clay does need to be baked just like any other polymer clay after the paint has dried. Are you using sculpey 3? I wouldn't use that clay. It's very brittle. If you're talking about premo then sure you can use it. :d
Jessama Tutorials I'm using premo. Thanks for answering 😊
Ok I have the clay cutters, so how can you flatten it out without losing the nice lines and cutting it with the shape cutters? Thanks
Cut slices from the cane and add those slice to a sheet of black clay. Use a piece of paper to burnish the slices to that they lay flat and even on the sheet. You can then cut pieces out with your cutters.
Love this look. Is it necessary to seal it for tube beads?
No. You don't have to seal it.
How do you get them so shiny_ Resin_ what kind of resin do you suggest_
I sanded and buffed them.
The flat ones I applied Ice Resin to them.
You said you use resin to make the glossy finish. How do you apply it?
I only apply the resin to the flat beads as it would run off on the domed beads. I have an in depth tutorial on how to use ice resin. www.etsy.com/au/listing/564016605/tips-and-tricks-walk-through-on-ice?ref=shop_home_active_22
Thanks for the video tutorial, very interested, sorry for the my English language 😞🙋🙋🙋
Very nice!!!
What did you use to glaze the finished product?
I used varathane.
How much do you sell each item for?
It depends on what I'm selling. You can have a look at my Etsy shop if you want to see how much a sell each piece for. www.etsy.com/au/shop/JessamaDesign
Can I use acryllic paint
Yes. That is what I used.
Did you put a finish on stone
No. I just sanded and buffed them.
How do you finish it? make it shiney?
I applied UV resin to the flat pieces and sanded the domed pieces.
Paparazzi Real Turquoise Jewelry
Can the clay turquoise we rolled ?.
You can if you want to, but it can distort the shape a bit.
I have been struggling with how to make it into coasters. Do you have any ideas?
You'd slice the cane and burnish those slices onto a backing sheet of clay such as black. Then cut out the shape of your coaster.
what do you use as your gloss finish?
I used Ice resin. You can also use Magic Gloss Uv resin.
So you don’t bake these you just let them air dry. When you say sand what dies that mean
You do bake them for around an hour. I use sandpaper ranging from 400 to 1000 grit to sand the cabochons after baking.
Thank you for the video! Is it possible to try this with FIMO Clay instead?
Sure Fimo will work just fine.
Jessama Tutorials , if we use FIMO, should we bake it? Thanks a lot for the video, you made a really great job!
Right after you first cut it, it looks like strangely colored sushi.
Where's your resin tutorial?
