Thank you for the great comments pointing out the ergonomics of right-side controls (as opposed to the EOS M5) and possible future full-frame mirrorless from Canon. Excellent TOUCH implementation on the Canon menus. Baffling that other camera manufacturers like Fuji or Sony do not implement it as well. One would think they would look at the competition.
Good video 🙌🏾 Got an M6 last week to shoot video content, so far so good for the price. Won't replace my DSLR for photography though, but a great powerful camera for travel and those quick shots on the road. Low light performance isn't amazing but the only drawback I have 👍🏾
I've been doing research on mirrorless cameras for a few months and narrowed it down to sony a6300, fuji x-t20 and this camera (originally researched M5). I like the M6 but i wont be concerned too much with video/vlogging. For that reason im still leaning towards the X-T20 but will know for sure once i hold both. Great video thank you.
For me, the XT-2 ergos don't work too well. That weird flip up/sideways LCD. Plus, I won't need the shutter speed dial on top, as I usually shoot "P." A lot of other features are good, though. Oh, I don't think they make a zoom I like, either. The M6 might be a simpler choice with a better sensor than the GX8 I bought used. It has the ergos, but seems to miss on picture quality, esp. if I enlarge. The focus system seems to miss, too.
What did you mean about a WR lens? The only thing I could think of was "water resistant," but that didn't fit the context of what you were talking about (pro range lens). BTW when I had an EOS-M (no number), i got a viewing loupe for the LCD. I used a Hood Loupe from Hoodman, but there's a less expensive one on eBay under several names. It attaches magnetically to a frame you stick onto the LCD. It's much better, I thought. There are also loupes that screw onto the bottom and flip up when you want the LCD. But with this camera that would hinder the movement of the LCD. I liked the closing music but didn't see a credit. Who and what is that?
The beauty of the EOS M6 is lack of mirror. There would be no front/back focus issues using the EF adapter with the M6. What Canon needs to do is produce a crop sensor lens that is similar to the Fuji 16mm f1.4. The lack of 24mm (full frame equiv) is what is disappointing as I own the 80D. I still appreciate my Fuji X-T2 with battery booster simply because of the 24mm equiv prime and 56 f/1.2. Let's just hope your prediction of "EF full frame mount" comes true sooner than later :) A topic that is not commonly discussed is the red focus assist grid on the speedlights not being utilized during dark low light situations compared to the mirrored Canon/Nikon bodies. Take, have you tried using a hotshoe external flash with the M6? I wonder if the AF slows down like most mirrorless bodies. My biggest complaint with fuji is the !AF indicator telling me autofocus is failing due to low light / low contrast situations. This is one of my main reasons my Canon is my primary system and fuji is my secondary. I think I'll hang on my 80D for Video simply because it works but also my speedlight aids in autofocus with zero AF hesitation.
The EOS M100 shares many of the same features for about half the price, body only. But no hot shoe or mic input. Has Digic 7 processor and dual pixel AF as in the EOS M5/M6.
Hi thank you for your reply - I know that the M5 has the feature because of the fixed finder whereas the m6 appears not to as the finder is an extra. Pity because that's a killer key feature.
for sure, for me I want the EVF if it was a camera for shooting stills. But for video, especially for vloggers or one-person production (like me) the articulating screen is more important.
Yes I am very very close to purchasing this camera for an upcoming project. I need solid AF and stabilization. It's more important to me than 4K at this time.
Thanks for the review! I just recently got the M6 too, still trying to learn using it after switching from the 6D. This M6, do you have any suggestions on selfie stick that is sturdy and maybe able to bend? hahaa.. yes, i'm greedy! Thank you! Great reviews!
Thanks for the great review. I've been looking for a vlogging/stills camera and have come across all the trade offs and key features you mentioned. Was really keen on the XT-20 but it appeared that you were not too impressed with its focus tracking and OIS for vlogging purposes in your review. I assume they function better on the M6? Also, with the Canon adaptor, will the EF-S lenses have equally effective OIS and focus tracking as in an 80d?
If you had $1300-1400 dollars, which small compact camera would you get for mostly point and shoot, best Image quality camera? Can you recommend 2-3 cameras?
Because the adapter is made by Canon and very solid, these lenses will behave exactly the same as if it was mounted on an 80D or any APS-C sensor Canon camera. The sensor and processor is basically the same so it behaves the same. It's fantastic.
Hi, Thanks for the video:) I noticed that the lens release button is kind of loose on my m6, doesn’t take much pressure to press on it. Do u have the same thing?
I really need to feel it to know, but if you think there's something wrong with your shutter, you should take it into a camera store and ask the salesperson to compare against other cameras. Each camera shutter button has a unique feel to it.
bigheadtaco thanks for your reply. It’s not the shutter button, it’s the lens release button, for me on my m6, it does not take much pressure to press on it, but once the lens is attached to the camera, it’s solid and does not wiggle
Is this good for indoor pictures?. I bought it for grad pictures indoor and I am wondering if it would be able to zoom in enough. I just wanted something better than my iphone 8 plus. I spent a lot, I have little camera skills but plan on learning. I am now thinking this is a vlogging camera and I should return it.
Every video I see with the M6 seems to lack low light and shows more shadows than highlight contrast. I thought of getting this camera but for those reasons maybe not. Really don't care about vlogging or 4K.
I was more interested in this cameras picture taking abilities and not really its video abilities. Most cameras make use of the full sensor for pictures not video. So some information on pixel resolution divided by 300 would give us the print size and that would be something more important for those of us interested in pictures. In my opinion looking to a camera for video is like buying a car to listen to the radio. Maybe you could consider expanding the information on photos in a camera review and not reduce its picture taking abilities to 1% of the review.
I like what Canon have to offer right now. They were late in the compact mirror less market, but they seem to be catching up. The price isn't bad. Sony are getting too expensive.
Yes the M5 and M6 is at a sweet price point for mirrorless. More native prime and zoom lenses, and a higher end weather sealed body would go a long way to convince people to take the EOS-M lineup seriously. Also it needs 4K to remain competitive, even though most won't really need it or use it.
I have searched for and i discover that canon m6 can record 30 minutes continues, other information, if you have a 16gb memory card you can record 44 minutes at 1080p resolution.
i like how you were the only person that really gave M5 kudos for having it swing downward and I happened to nod while listening to you. :) So I think that was a good point there. Although I would still pick M6 because of the tilt screen swinging upward. :) Quick question though... if you have a choice between M6 vs M100... which one would you pick? I really like M6 but M100 looks more compact.. but i know it's a very small difference between the 2.
Yes I did, but I didn't post much because it's basically the same as the M5. If you want to see street pics then just watch my M5 video. The AF is quick and accurate with the dual pixel technology.
I ended up sending it back to Canon because it is a review camera, but I am still keeping an eye on the Canon M system as it evolves. I'm very excited to see what Canon can do. Their colour science is as good as Fujifilm's, and their lens catalogue is vast.
Thanks for letting us know. I'm sure it was really hard to ship it back. Ooohh.. don't say "fujifilm" because i had my eyes on the x-a5 but convinced myself to go with a canon M-series because I already have a Canon dslr. It will be a good secondary camera and I like the mic input. the x-a5 looks soooo pretty!! ahhh... thanks again.. I will check more of your reviews next time.
Yes I guess if you type in Canon and mirrorless, anything related comes up. I don't think I'll review the M100, but since it's using the same sensor and processor, you will see similar performance. The big difference will be build quality and ergonomics.
Please review the excellent Canon 22 f2 M lens against the also excellent Fuji 23 f2 - I use both systems, own the Canon lens already plan to purchase the Fuji lens but would be surprised if the lens is actually any better. Then again my Fuji has no AA filter....
for sure, I really want to test the EF-M 22mm f/2. My feeling is the Canon will outperform the Fuji for close focus sharpness, but the rendering on the XF 23mm f/2 R WR from medium distance is beautiful. Also, as you mentioned, the sensor+processor combination must always be considered when talking about two different systems.
Amazing video, You are a very good Vlogger keep shooting and sharing brother :) I got myself the M3 and so far happy but the focus is driving me crazy, you have had your M6 for a while now and your focus seems to be perfect, I was wondering If you would mind sharing your focus settings? the M3 Settings will be almost the same as your M6 Or If you have a few seconds I wondered if you could tell me the best settings for the type of videos I do? In this video at around 1:43ish ruclips.net/video/NJOQPKGBlw8/видео.html You will see the focus going out and coming back, it does this a lot and sometimes takes a long time to focus. Like I said [driving me crazy] lol :) Dan

I think it would be a huge mistake for Canon to use the M mount in mirror less full frame. Either use the EF or EF-S mount
Great video thank you.
thanks for watching. All great cameras, each with their own strengths

Hi can you please show how to make live stream with pc using Canon EOS M6?
What did you mean about a WR lens? The only thing I could think of was "water resistant," but that didn't fit the context of what you were talking about (pro range lens).

This was insanely helpful! Thank you!
Great review thanks! I bought this camera on a Black Friday deal. Hope I get it soon for my vlogging
How much was the BL deal?
Hi thank you for your reply - I know that the M5 has the feature because of the fixed finder whereas the m6 appears not to as the finder is an extra. Pity because that's a killer key feature.
for sure, for me I want the EVF if it was a camera for shooting stills. But for video, especially for vloggers or one-person production (like me) the articulating screen is more important.
Great review on the m-6. Thanks for showing your vlogging set up. Would like to see the canon SL-2. See how it compares to 80D.
Thanks for watching. SL-2 is fantastic.
How about reviewing an old analogue Canonet rangefinder? I think that'd be very interesting! Maybe Bellamy can provide a review version.
I am planning to start an analogue review series, but I will have a guest host. Stay tuned for details.
Thank you for an awesome review! I love my M6, it was phenomenal for travel!! Video and photos were both quite exceptional
Yes I am very very close to purchasing this camera for an upcoming project. I need solid AF and stabilization. It's more important to me than 4K at this time.
Hello Take, two questions: Does the EOS M5 do SILENT SHOOTING? And, if not sensor shift for IBIS how does it actually achieve 5-axis IS?
Super review as always. Thank you. Would be interested to see your review of the Olympus E-M1 MkII.
thanks. Currently I do not review for Olympus
Thanks for the review! I just recently got the M6 too, still trying to learn using it after switching from the 6D.
This M6, do you have any suggestions on selfie stick that is sturdy and maybe able to bend? hahaa.. yes, i'm greedy!
Thank you! Great reviews!
You're accent really comes out in this episode lol. Never realized this in previous videos. Great video!
I guess we all have some sort of accent. Thanks for watching
Also, with the Canon adaptor, will the EF-S lenses have equally effective OIS and focus tracking as in an 80d?
yes since all Canon lenses connect via electronic contacts with built in motor for OIS and AF, I did not notice a performance drop
for me, I like the simplicity of the M6.
I have a used GX8, but it's got a bit more than I need, and the sensor quality and focus aren't that great.
If you had $1300-1400 dollars, which small compact camera would you get for mostly point and shoot, best Image quality camera? Can you recommend 2-3 cameras?
Great video Take! What do you think if the STM lens like 24mm or 40mm are used on this body? Like the sharpness, autofocus, etc.
Because the adapter is made by Canon and very solid, these lenses will behave exactly the same as if it was mounted on an 80D or any APS-C sensor Canon camera. The sensor and processor is basically the same so it behaves the same. It's fantastic.
MH SAIFUL 40mm works great.
And the image quality of it too, really good
Great review as always. Please review Leica TL2.
Yes I'm still waiting for Leica to send me a copy. I'm not high on their priority list unfortunately.
Very helpful thanks
I can't decide for stills. M6 or m100 from Canon.. I like the extra buttons on M6 but m100 price and size is so nice.
Glad I didn't wait for this, happy with picking up the X-T2 a couple of weeks ago :)
X-T2 is fantastic and is on a different level versus the current EOS M bodies and lenses.
bigheadtaco different price levels
Hi,
Thanks for the video:) I noticed that the lens release button is kind of loose on my m6, doesn’t take much pressure to press on it. Do u have the same thing?
I really need to feel it to know, but if you think there's something wrong with your shutter, you should take it into a camera store and ask the salesperson to compare against other cameras. Each camera shutter button has a unique feel to it.

Where did you get the strap? It looks like from ybputro strap? ;)
Quick question.
Did you use any external mic in the vlog footage with the Canon M6 or it was the built in mic?
Yes I used a Rode VideoMicro.
Wooow. And you accomplished such a great quality of the audio? HOW?
we did an audio pass in post with an audio specialist. It helps to have a small budget when creating videos :-)
Yes it's decent for indoors, but you can always upgrade to better lenses (at the cost of size, weight and price)
is there focus peaking?
Question - if you have the finder can you drag the focus point on the screen like you can using the M5???
Since I didn't have the EVF I couldn't test it, but I did not see the feature in the menus.
Nope.
Is this camera will be the best option for vlogging ? Cause i looking for lower price but good function in autofocus .
For me this is the best ILC vlogging camera that does not do 4K. It has everything you need and at a reasonable price.
Have you stopped doing 3 clicks?
Every video I see with the M6 seems to lack low light and shows more shadows than highlight contrast. I thought of getting this camera but for those reasons maybe not. Really don't care about vlogging or 4K.
Awesome review so should I get one
I was more interested in this cameras picture taking abilities and not really its video abilities. Most cameras make use of the full sensor for pictures not video. So some information on pixel resolution divided by 300 would give us the print size and that would be something more important for those of us interested in pictures. In my opinion looking to a camera for video is like buying a car to listen to the radio. Maybe you could consider expanding the information on photos in a camera review and not reduce its picture taking abilities to 1% of the review.

Can m6 be used for making pranks? Or doing interviews ??
thanks for the review really helped
How much minutes we can record continue? Need for videography...
I have searched for and i discover that canon m6 can record 30 minutes continues, other information, if you have a 16gb memory card you can record 44 minutes at 1080p resolution.

for me the weight difference is not enough to go with the M100, but the M6 is nice because of all the ergonomic features.
thanks! :) i think you're right! M6 is worth that extra few hundreds. thanks again.
As always great :)
thanks Fred!
excellent review. thank you!
Great review. Love my M6
Do you think it’s better than the Sony a6000?
Can you put a mic on the m6
Have you tried using it to shoot street photos?,hows the AF for stills?
Yes I did, but I didn't post much because it's basically the same as the M5. If you want to see street pics then just watch my M5 video. The AF is quick and accurate with the dual pixel technology.
I was thinking about getting this then they just released the canon m50..🙄
Wat r the best setting for video in m6
additional question... did you keep the M6?
I ended up sending it back to Canon because it is a review camera, but I am still keeping an eye on the Canon M system as it evolves. I'm very excited to see what Canon can do. Their colour science is as good as Fujifilm's, and their lens catalogue is vast.

a 6d mkii review please .....
With that much room around the sensor they could easily fit it with OIS module.
OIS is already in the lens (Optical Image Stabilization), but yes they would use some sort of sensor shift technology.
i thought this was the canon m100 review lol
Did you get one yet Take?
Yes I guess if you type in Canon and mirrorless, anything related comes up. I don't think I'll review the M100, but since it's using the same sensor and processor, you will see similar performance. The big difference will be build quality and ergonomics.

Can someone point me to a cheaper fish eye Ef-m lens
What neck strap is that?
name of strap and link in description
Thanks.
please review canon sx730hs
Noted. Thanks.
u need to edit out u keep repeating points... love the L bracket there

no 4k? oh c'mon canon! its 2017!!!
I know....
My living room TV won't even display 4k. In fact, I keep it set on 720p. So... not an issue for me!
gave up at 2:55
Get on with it please!!
dude, get a friend to watch your videos before you post them, even in lower quality if its easier
sorry, thanks for the advice, but I don't understand what the critique is.
