these new generations will never understand being simple. can you imagine a time without cell phones? a time when kids played in the streets and rode bikes? a time when we could walk barefoot into the store to get a bottle of soda? playing outside until dark and hanging out at the pool all day! those days are gone forever.

I was only 7 when Ronnie, Dean and Cassie died on that tragic day so I never got to see them in their prime. I am thankful these guys came back in the 90s to continue the legacy of Skynyrd. I've seen them dozens of times since the 90s. Fly on Freebird. Sure miss the ones who've passed on to Rock'N'Roll Heaven.

Being "simple" in not to be confused with being empty, or not complex. It means to bring yourself down to earth. Life is messy and hard as hell, but keep calmness within yourself, don't get too stressed, don't get overwhelmed. Keep it simple. Let yourself be relaxed. 🤟

He was like fuck this and just left. He said although he loved the guys their lifestyle didn't mesh with his at all. The band although pissed had said later on how Ed's businesslike attitude definitely helped them.

seriously though, todays music will never reach this with "just" half the effort. no talent, no passion, no charisma, no story and no balls! today's musicians don't know what end of the guitar they should play unless a manager tells them.
the real enemies though are the corporations trying to streamline every piece of individual to a machine who's only job is to look good with a mic and playback.

Ronnie Van Zant pretty much wrote 100 % of the lyrics for Lynyrd Skynyrd prior to his untimely death in 1977. He was a truely great songwriter - simple but powerful lyrics. There is a 2018 documentary about the band currently playing on Netflix ("If I leave Here Tomorrow....."). In it, the guitarist Ed King says: if you want to know what Ronnie Van Zant was really like, just take any 5 songs he wrote and read over those lyrics carefully, and you will get the full picture. Heart on the sleeve and just a great man!

    "Simple Man"
Mama told me when I was young
"Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day."
"Oh, take your time, don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You'll find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget, son, there is someone up above"
"And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can."
"Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied"
"And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can."
    Oh, yes, I will
"Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied."
"And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can?"
"Baby, be a simple, be a simple of man
