- Hi, guys. My apologies for uploading this video again. I noticed that the background was to dark and that it was too hard to see the art of our favorite alchemist, Varian. So I changed it for a lighter background. I hope you still enjoy the video. :-D

Varian may be a villain, but he's not evil *...HE HAS LOST HIS WAY.*
Sooo true and soo sad😭😔💔
I appreciate what you mean to day, but villains ARE evil.
What you meant to say was an antagonist , which is someone practically just a problem or an obstacle in the form of a person in another person's story
Lucina/Severa Lowell Agreed. Also, I most evil isnt born; its made
@@LucinaMarthLowell but he had a reason and I blame rapunzel cause she promised to help him
@@LucinaMarthLowell I dont exactly think that most of the 'Villians' in worm are really that evil though Grue only works on the team to get enough money to save his sister from an abusive home and become her legal guardian.
Varian is 100% an Anti-Villian
Anti-Villain:
a character with heroic goals, personality traits, and/or virtues who is ultimately the villain. Their desired ends are mostly good, but their means of getting there range from evil to undesirable
Thank you for this comment! I won't get into it, but having this clear definition here has helped me in multiple ways
Machiavellian?
That's exactly what I was thinking but I didn't know how to describe it!
This is so true because varian wanted to make his father proud (as it says in the title of the song) but he was trapped in the amber stuff (idk what it's called) so that made varian become sad and use control
Fr
The fandom loves you pumpkin. Every episode I was foaming at the mouth wondering "Hey why is no one checking on Varian?!?!"
Ayanna Watts lol that's what I said. Rapunzel brings up how bad she felt in painters block and I was all like, "why aren't you checking up on him" then in quest for Varian she's all like, "I'm worried Varian might be in trouble" and then I'm all like, "why are you telling your dad! GO CHECK ON HIM!!!" Nigel brings up how Varian "attacked" her and Rapunzel doesn't say anything and I'm all like, "clear up the misunderstanding Rapunzel! He wasn't attacking you and you know it so why in the hell aren't you correcting them!!!" She sees Quirin fully encased in the amber like rock and said she should've stayed in the castle and I was all like, *facepalm* "no Rapunzel! The correct response would be, 'I wish I could've done something' or 'I need to figure out how to fix this' followed by 'we need to find Varian and see if he's alright' that's the response of a kindhearted, noble, selfless princess and right now you're acting like a child that doesn't want to do anything because it's too hard~!" It's the least she could do after disobeying her father, whom strictly forbids her from taking a step out of the castle let alone the whole kingdom, and messed with some strange objects that she doesn't understand and causes to grow rapidly throughout the kingdom including Varian's village which is now totally destroyed and nobody not even the royal family cared. And all because the childish princess wanted to get out and have fun. Then the subject about Varian "attacking" Rapunzel is brought up once again, labeling him a traitor and she still doesn't say anything and then this happens, Varian: "I had to lay low for a while, people aren't too keen on those who 'attack' their princess", Rapunzel: *acts surprised for some reason and then gasped* "attack me! What do you mean!?" *facepalm again* What do you mean, 'what do you mean'!? And wait, WHY ARE YOU SURPRISED AT THIS!!!??? It was thrown at your face how many times and you not ONCE acknowledged it. I'm sorry for ranting but Rapunzel cannot be this freaking stupid! Either that or she is a total fake that acts surprised in hopes that she wouldn't be blamed for never clearing up a misunderstanding! They botched her character so bad just so they can have an excuse for the most popular character on the show to become a villain. It's just so insulting! I just stopped caring for the show and Rapunzel as well as the others, and the only character I care about now is the one that's suppose to be a "villain". I don't care to watch the show until Varian returns and gets something good happening for him in the end. Again, sorry for the rant. I just don't like the material, the plot or any of the characters except for Varian now.
ashe bennett in 100% with you on that sister
JustFaithy236 Thanks. 😄
@@ashebennett7726 because Rapunzel's a bitch
@@ashebennett7726 i agree with you on every point. And i also stopped watching the Show. Now and then i goggle if Varian has returned yet but that's the most i do nowadays with the show. Until Varians Return there is no reason to watch such a shitty written story that makes literally no sense. Rapunzel is a horrible person in this. Her father is a huge jackass. And everyone else can go fuck themselfs for judging a god damn *kid* for attacking the kingdom after they all left him alone in his time of need.
Varian is one of the first Disney characters who actually feels like he's acting his age. Like unlike a lot of Disney-stuff, his dad was right. Varian is still a child. And his reaction to losing (probably) the one person who ever really loved him (probably understood he was smart but not his... hobbies), while the rest of the country straight up already called him dangerous (even before he turned) I think is very much in line with someone with his age and skills.
no offence, my opinion about this I know his father was right he still a child but he had his own emotions and feelings inside of him unlike his father and also he is not dangerous at all why I say that because he just had many emotions and feelings, he feels anger with distraught he feel there so many things had added pressure on him he get fed up with so many things inside of his mind that make him take the tragic action, I know his action were out of control he just couldn't hold his anger inside of him he burst out with rage.
@@beautifulsweetheart4932 no I get it. Yo ure right. Varian has a right to his feelings and emotions. But at the same time, given the time period it seems based off of it makes sense for Quirin to disregard them in favor of safety. Especially given, his sons small size. It was a flaw in character, but he's not totally wrong, just not listening. It's a common issue with this trope.
Varian's sincerity and genuine nature is what makes him appealing as a character and the way he reacts to the things that happen to him is believable for his age and as someone who is hyper intelligent.
@ImmortalUnit 25 Agreed. Varian's kind and sweet nature when we and Rapunzel first met him from turning to dark rage when she betrays Varian makes him truly an amazing and powerful character.

Me: *winced in pain* aah! Ow! Ian, I- ahh!
Varian's great. I gotta admit though, although I don't condone his actions, I get why he turned out how he did. He was kinda...ignored...despite needing help. Nobody ever even checked if the rocks in his village were doing damage or worsening or aaanything...
Well, that's what makes him a good tragic villain.
Exactly
He reminds me of Hiro (big hero 6), but if he didn't have the others and baymax to help and support.

@@Ivan-hv2gf I love characters who have a right for “becoming evil”. That’s why Cassandra and Varian are my favorite characters.
When you think about it you really can’t blame Cassandra and Varian for “going evil”. Cassandra was constantly dragged by Rapunzel and Rapunzel was always condescending. And Varian LOST HIS FATHER! Because of Rapunzel! Varian only wanted to bring his Father back to life, that’s why he “became evil”. If Rapunzel actually kept her “promise”, she couldn’t leave the kingdom at that state but she could’ve sent some guards with him Varian’s Father wouldn’t have died. And as a result Varian wouldn’t have “gone evil”.
And Rapunzel was always condescending with everyone. Seeing herself as “blessed” and ONLY HER having a “destiny”.
If Rapunzel acted right no one would’ve “gone evil”. So you really can’t blame Cassandra and Varian.
And Rapunzel should’ve chosen her words a bit carefully.
Like for Cassandra by the tone of her voice and her facial expressions you can see/hear that she’s not too sure “to become evil” but when Rapunzel said “wait” TWICE that’s when she lost it. When Rapunzel said “wait” for the first time in the song Cassandra was getting ready to leave and when she was at the other side of the bridge you can see that she wasn’t too sure if she should break the bridge but when Rapunzel said “wait” FOR THE SECOND TIME That’s when she really lost it!
And for Varian first of all Rapunzel didn’t keep her “promise” so she broke her trust with Varian. And when Rapunzel and Varian were stealing The Sundrop Flower can see/hear that he’s not too sure “to become evil” and to steal The Sundrop Flower but when Rapunzel used the word “promise AGAIN! And since Varian had no trust left in Rapunzel he didn’t listen.
And when Varian was trying to hurt Rapunzel he wanted revenge because of Rapunzel he LOST HIS FATHER! Like he said “If I can’t have a happy ending, then neither can you!”.
You’ll think that since Rapunzel used the wrong words with Varian she wouldn’t do the same mistake with Cassandra, but no she DIDN’T! She did the same mistake TWICE!
And Rapunzel didn’t become less condescending, if anything she got EVEN MORE CONDESCENDING!
Rapunzel really didn’t have much, if any character development, unlike the rest of the characters,
Like Rapunzel’s Father, The King and Eugene they trusted Rapunzel and trusted her and that she can look after herself and doesn’t need someone to protect her.
And Cassandra’s Father, The Captain Of The Guards, understood what Cassandra actually wanted to do, he trusted her and that she can look after herself and doesn’t need someone to protect her
And for Rapunzel NOTHING! She had little to no character development.
But I don’t think that Rapunzel intended to be condescending, abusive and having little to no empathy on purpose. She didn’t have much interaction with others for 18 years. And Mother Gotel was condescending, abusive and had little to no empathy to Rapunzel so as a result Rapunzel was condescending, abusive and and had little to no empathy to her “friends”.
But she should’ve had at least a little character development when she spent time in Corona but she DIDN’T.
I started watching this show because of him and I'm staying because of him. So precious🥰
I love Varian so much. It's like when Tigger cries in the Tigger movie. How could such an adorable character have to go through so much pain and heartache?! It breaks my heart and I still tear up listening to this

Jeremy Jordan perfectly catches the character of Varian... I have chills and tears! Varian is one of my favourite characters *OF ALL TIME,* from every movie and TV series!
I love him hopelessly
✨💜
I LOVE VARIAN, he's the best disney villain ever
He is the only one that is sympathetic and he isn’t pure evil and he is capable of being redeemed and he feels regret and hesitation for doing the things he does the only one
Varian maybe a villain but he is not evil *...HE HAS LOST HIS WAY.*
What about syndrome? I guess he's pixar, but still!
Do not compare varian to Syndrom please not to villains that die and are not redeemed
I agree!!! Because in reality he's the most complex of all, in fact he's an antihero (obviously until he redeemed himself)
! The only "bad guy" that comes to mind that is similar to him (and I love him too madly), is John Silver! I know they aren't identical, but I see a lot of things in common anyway, in fact I think they're the best "villains" I've ever seen, and certainly they're among my favourite characters *EVER,* in any movie and Tv series! Others villains that I love very much are Te-Ka, Callaghan, Cassandra, Sindrome, Evelyn, Bellwether, Turbo, Kerchak, Frollo, Scar, Ernesto De La Cruz, and eventually also Maui and Hiro (only for that moment in which he obviously lost his mind, which is too short to call him a villain, in my opinion, in fact, I think it's just a moment of loss of control and that's it)! Then, other characters who aren't villains but who have manifestly wrong behaviors, and that I love madly, are Héctor, Adam, Kovu, Jim, Elsa and Nick 💜
His voice always makes me feel like I'm gonna cry cause it's so beautiful
Props to the writers for giving him a solo and so many other lead songs that show off of Jeremy Jordan’s vocal talent

The beginning of the instrumental kind of sounds like Wicked's The Wizard and I.

haha, this is late but I got my mom to watch tangled and when I was commenting about Rapunzel not checking on Varian. She said well its far away." Then I realized she could have perfectly visited him. Varian ran from his home to the castle and back in one day IN A BLIZZARD. Rapunzel could have done the same.
She is also se princess so she could have gone with a hourse
But but but you forgot what happened in the earlier part of the episode!! Her parents were missing, potentially dead, and she was the only heir!! Like yeah I was wondering that if Varian can do it then so can raps but it's too dangerous!! If something happened to her then the kingdom would lose their heir and Varian did not come all the way from old corona to the palace so easily!! The song was kinda like a montage and montages always make everything seem waayy easier and faster than it really are
@@itsnotthatdeepbro8219 yes but she could have checked on him after the storm. Even if it was too late for his dad, he told her that the rocks kept appearing on his village and it was dangerous. She should have investigated that. Or maybe, just care about the new orphan that Varian had become.
In fact she even should investigate that before, considering a few episodes have passed since she discovered the rocks and this episode.
For me, she and most of all her dad have really no excuses.
You know, you're right. The castle isn't that far from Old Corona so she could have made it there and back to rescue Quirin just like Varian did.🤔
1:55 My favorite part. You can here the victory and hope in his voice when he sings that line
Varian's actor's voice is absoulutly incredible
The things those lyrics imply are definitely not a healthy father-son relationship...
You can tell through out the series that Varian is in need of validation and atention, so yeah
I feel like Quirin (albeit accidentally) was a pretty neglecting father when it came to Varian's feelings/mental health. He tried his best and I don't think he's necessarily a bad parent, but I think that if they talked more they could've had a better understanding of each other. Am I thinking way to much into cartoon characters? Yes, yes I am.
Sad that all the lyrics are exactly how me and my mom are :( Don't get me wrong I love my mom and dad but I always make mistakes (I don't mean to) but I just want to make my mom proud.

@@SM-hl6hh which episode plz ? When Rapunzel got painter block... ?
Jeremy Jordan is literally amazing. Like wtf how.
He seems to be everyone's sweetheart ❤
Varian and Cass are two of my fav characters in the show, and they both really got done dirty by Rapunzel. With Varian it was an unavoidable situation, but with Cass she absolutely could have fixed things if she had accepted Cass as an equal instead of condescending her and just wanting her to come back and be a Lady-in-Waiting. At least Raps eventually lets Cass leave to be an individual, and fixes things with Varian by freeing Quirin.
Hard disagree that Rapunzel didn't treat Cassandra like an equal. She did. And she just wanted her friend bac, not necessarily as her lady in waiting, but as her friend.
You know, I have to say... Varian was wrong to do what he did, but I don't really blame him for being angry. He was a kid. And Rapunzel REALLY dropped the ball when he needed her. I'm not saying she should have taken off right away to help him when she was needed at home, but she could have made the choice to explain, and to let him stay and wait out the storm until they could figure something out. Instead, she let the guards literally drag him out --- during a raging snow storm.
Losing his father was Varian's darkest and most vulnerable moment. Rapunzel was someone he trusted, but instead he was faced with a cold reality that he wasn't important enough for her --- or ANYONE --- to be there for him when he needed them most. I'm not saying that what Rapunzel was doing wasn't important, but she definitely handled the situation badly.
Varain is amazing! Seriously! I love him so much he’s actually what got me so invested into the tangled series don’t get me wrong I love trangled Flynn rupunzel and the others are great but varvain is by far my favorite character

Varian is so great to me because his emotions are so real like he’s a sweetheart but with all the unfortunate things that happen to him he did a lot of terrible things and he knows it and he’s not proud of it but just like anyone else he can be horrible and hurt people but he tries to be better and I think what he’s been going through is really building a wonderful character out of him
Jeremy's voice is so amazing and distinctly beautiful, hitting every note so effortlessly! I can't stop listening to this song!
Now that I'm thinking about it, this song would be a perfect moment for Varian to sing this to a mind controlled Quirin...
Theory: for Frozen 3, they should do a Tangled/Frozen crossover and Varian should be in it. They kind of teased technology as a sort of bad guy in Frozen 2 and I think it would fit perfectly.
And it should make moon!varian canon. (This is my opinion. Not a fact. Only a fact that is my opinion. Don’t @ me if you’re gonna start a fight)
@@varianzero7469 I think moon!varian should be canon, but I don't want a tangled/frozen crossover, especially not one Varian is the villain, and I also just didn't like Frozen 2, and Elsa maintaining special snowflake "hey-people-I'm-the-fifth-spirit" status would annoy me as heck if it got brought back. Maybe calling it Frozen 3 might not be a good idea though, since at this point it isn't completely Frozen, but rather have it go by some other title.
@Joyful Sorrow I agree with that. They should’ve made the Varian spin-off so we got to see further into Varian’s story. Or a sequel to the actual movie where the black rocks return and they’re coming after Varian. But idk.
Yep. Totally they already did a tangled cameo. Make it happen Disney, you want the money, right?
@@KainoPhoeno It could work, as the time when Eugene and Raps visit Arendell is after they get married
I’m just gonna say this rq. This song could have been sung and animated differently. During the song, I expected Varian to be desperate or panicked, but he was more acting bold, and trying to prove his point. He was literally on a mission to save his dad, and he was on a MEGA time crunch.
Same, tho I really liked it, I think it would be better if it was animated more tragic
True, the song didn't really fit the situation.
In my opinion, it would have been better if he sang it in season 3. The lyrics would make a lot of sense if he sang it after his redemption.
It shows his ingenuity, and I disagree that it didn't show his desperation. It fits his character because he uses his bravado and positivity like a lifeline to get through things. Even though he is desperate here because of how dire the situation was, he is still trying to psych himself up and convince himself that he'll come through this and save his father. It's in character for him. I don't think the animation was as out of place as some of you think it is.
Dang, I miss the show so much already, Varian, Raps, Eugene, Lance and Cass, guys, I miss you!
Varian in the corner of the thumbnail made me think of Cass with the music box and I'm just like
Me: *INHALE*
I swear this song you can literally change it from son to daughter and it STILL works
Mostly. The double meaning of "the pride in your eyes when you see your son/sun raising." would be lost. But to be fair, that's not too major, other then it referencing the whole sun and moon thing going on in the series.
It's like his voice is kinda hovering between two keys that it flips between, so he's somehow still having a scratchy voice while perfectly hitting his notes
You know Varian is not really a villain right? He was forced to do what he did. A shame he got defeated and put in jail
Victor Montoya I agree he was forced into this and I hate that he's in jail and no one really cared about him though he isn't a full or true villain he's a tragic antagonist or anti grey villain who we can sympathies with
He tried to murder people, twice,,
But I agree that he does not deserve the conga line of catastrophe that is Queen For A Day, poor bby
he didn't deserve any of the crap that happened to him even after queen for a day
I don't Blame him
no he didn't ask for it as he showed doubt and regret for these things he didn't want to but felt he had to
" Don't worry dad, I will get to the bottom of this, I promise!"
"Anybody who stands or stood in my path they are going to pay!! They... will....pay" Varian. I love himmmm
I love this cinnamon roll so much, he deserves better, he doesn't deserve to be so sad
I really love his voice and I really love how Varian's character comes together in the series.
Disney songs always make my heart beat really fast and they fill me with such happiness, no matter if they're villain songs (such as Let Me Make You Proud's reprise) happy songs, ambition songs (such as this Let Me Make You Proud and its reprise, because the reprise is ambition and Varian's brief turning to the dark side), etc.
They're all valid and I love them so much. This song right here just sends my heartbeat through the roof, which probably isn't healthy, but it makes me feel so happy. I also love Jeremy Jordan, so that could also be a reason.
I feel like Varian is singing for both himself and Rapunzel. Rapunzel also wants to make her parents proud. You can say there's a pun with the word son. It could also mean sun
I hope varian redeems himself in the next season...and better yet, His dad comes back. That would help him even more, Though he would "most" likely be disappointed in him for almost destroying the village. But then again, They might let him out of prison hopefully. But all I'm saying is that, I just hope varian turns to the nerdy, loving, caring, boy he once and I still believe he is
Good news! He's back, his father is back and not disappointed in him, and Varian is not in jail anymore (because he escaped but whatever they didn't put him back in and now he's friends with everyone again, including Stan and Pete). He's back to his normal self, but now he has a new personality trait -- insecurity -- which isn't technically a personality trait, but whatever.

Fun fact: Jeremy Jordan has sung Let It Go
Okay so did anyone think about the fact that since his dad was trapped in the amber varian spent quite some time alone (aside from ruddiger) like, isolation.
Coming back after watched Encanto and realized Tangled The Series is very underrated. Need more recognistion for it.
The high note at 2:45 KILLS ME EVERYTIME 😭😭
I heard Ready as I’ll Ever Be before I watched the show so because of that I knew Varian did become an antagonist at some point. I thought it was from a Broadway musical. I was like I need context for this song and a song that happens in season 3 that I heard without knowing it was from this show and I also thought it was from Broadway. I heard nothing left to lose a long time before I watched the show and later I hear Ready as I’ll Ever Be. From two different things but kinda forgot about one. I wanted context for the 2 songs. I’m glad I watched the show because it’s a pretty good show. I do like that they’re not afraid to make some flawed characters that effect who becomes the antagonist. It makes for an interesting and complex story. Although I would have loved if they focused on more character development or had more plot heavy episodes. I kinda knew who become a villain at some point
1:55 WHY THE HECK IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS PART 😭😭😭
THE VOCALSSSSSSSS! THAT'S MY FAVORITE PART!
Jeremy Jordan has one heck of a voice
This song would make a great background for a video of Spider-Man Homecoming regarding Peter’s relationship with Tony.
_casually curls up and cries_
Love this song! Love Varian! Love his voice!!!
Ok, I see people being protective of Varian (and that is a noble thing, he is a smol baby bean who needs love and comfort) and lashing out at Rapunzel.
Ok first off, what Varian did, experimenting with the rocks, not one of his best ideas. But going to Rapunzel was actually a smart move. He begged for help, but Rapunzel didn't tell him "no" or to go away or shoved him away, she said she couldn't help him right then. The butler didn't help things by being rude to this poor cold kid, having a mental breakdown because his dad is in danger. Also the guards should have told the kid to wait in the castle and once things were fixed, Rapunzel would be with him instead of throwing him into the cold.
As for why Rapunzel didn't send anyone, she needed help, and yeah maybe she could've sent someone, but they wouldn't have known what was going on. She was also under a lot of stress. This is the first time she's taking initiative as queen and everything she's doing is backfiring. Then this blizzard comes and complicates things. She has to find her parents, she has to keep her kingdom safe, she has to keep it together because no one else will. Varian unintentionally sent her over the edge, even if she didn't show it.
At the end of the episode, people are screaming at her in the comments to check up on Varian, but please keep this in mind: she's in shock and she's always downplaying her depression and insecurities, but now she's forced to accept them.
Rapunzel was not in a good place mentally, so I don't blame her for trying to take a breather. But once she composed herself, Rapunzel should have personally gone to see Varian and stop the rumors about how Varian "attacked" her.
Or Cas should have gone to check up on him and relayed what happened to Rapunzel.
Also remember even with everything that has been happening, this is Rapunzel's first change to prove herself to her parents and kingdom. And as someone who lived in a tower with no one or nothing to be in charge of, Rapunzel is doing her best.
Yes, some of the blame goes to Rapunzel for not responding and to the other adults who ignored Varian, but Varian knew very well those rocks were very likely dangerous and should've waited to do things with them.
Also this song and Ready As I'll Ever Be show how desperate Varian is and why he needed his dad and adults.
Varian is a kid, he's 14 in season 1 (if I'm remembering this correctly), and he's also not used to having to save anyone from dire circumstances. So I don't blame him for being desperate and wanting to save his dad (personally, I would leave my parents in there, but that's another story), but there were smarter ways to go about it.
Anyway, that's my long rant about this episode.
I feel like that whole dynamic thing was a "wrong place at the wrong time" type of deal. Both Rapunzel and Varian had a lot of things on their mind and both were thinking rashly. It wasn't his best decision but I think Rapunzel should have checked on him sooner than she did. Both of them and neither of them are to blame for what happened.
You're right!
i am obsessed with songs from tangled the series for some reason:')

Though this song isn't pretty catchy it's so meaningful and sensate ❤️ Big song for the Varian we knew before all the story.
This song is super catchy lmao
Everyone loves varian and I mean who wouldnt, just look at him. And this is my favorite varian song. The lyrics and singing were all perfect
I haven't seen Tangled the series. But Varian has become my favorite character of all times
Ohmygod even a villain varian is sweet & adorbable
I think Varian is a good character, Varian may have been the villain but I think it was the problem with Rapunzel. I know she couldn't help because she was busy with her parents, but she she would have at least paid Varian a visit and gave him more sympathy. Varian was literally 14 years old. I can't call him a 'pure cinammon roll' but he deserves a better credit.
