I love this guy! After watching this I was more than stoked to go for a walk "out-n-about in the hills in Winter".... The presentations in this whole series are outstanding. Very clear and easy to understand. Not a lot of fluff. Just straight-forward and useful information, delivered in a friendly fashion.
Mostly just watching this video to hear this guy say "crampon" again
Really pleased it is hitting the right level and content for everyone, enjoy.
6 years later still the best tutorials on youtube!
I love the calm, clear and concise style of these. Well done.
Excellent - best presentation skills I have ever seen! I never really paid attention to how I do this, and I cannot explain it well. Now I can just show this to friends and they will be prepared and have the right mindset.
Thanks!

Mark, that was an amazing video. Hats off to you for helping beginners learn the basics before they venture out on their first ice and snow climbing experience! This would also probably be helpful to more experienced mountaineers.
Of the handful of crampon videos of seen this is by far the clearest
Very many thanks! I am making final preparations for my first ice climbing next week. Very helpful videos, all giving me more confidence!
cheers from the States. Well done...and the weather looks choice.
Is it just me or is this guy’s accent like music to the ears? I can listen to him talking about cramponing the side of hills all day long.
Is it just me or the Brits are exceptional teachers? Good video.
thanks for the helpful and easy to follow guide. wore mine for the first time in Snowdonia last weekend. faultless and trouble free, made the walk more enjoyable.
Excellent video. This would be great to watch before a winter skills course...
Agreed..excellent 👍
Fantastic instruction and clarity of video details
Excellent detailed information. Thank you.
an excellent clip, very informative. Cheers.
The real question is: how does William Wallace use his crampons?
Lol just kidding! Such a great video. Clear explanation and demonstration. Excellent audio quality and the video & editing very well done. Thanks for posting.
This is great! Thanks for posting. I'll share with friends. I am interested in winter skills course
Brilliant. Clear and concise!
Very interesting. Thank you. I'm heading to Nepal in September for a long trek that involves five 5,000 meter passes, and have been advised that it might be handy to bring some micro-spikes, or preferably crampons along. I'm guessing from what little I've read that for my hiking boots, which are a pair of Salomon 4D 3GTX boots, I'll need to get C1 crampons that simply strap on. But in that case would the technique you showed for kicking in the toe spikes on a steep slope still work? I would have thought you would need a rigid boot to do that?
did c1 crampons work with the salomons?
"You bring your bum down in to a toilet seat position." +1
Awesome video! You've got me as a subscriber. Like the igloo at the bottom of the hill. Any vids on that?
Really useful thanks. Looking to put it in to practice very soon.
thanks man! gonna use those techniques this weekend!
8:30 Whose igloo is that? x)
Igloo etiquette forbids one from asking such a personal question. Just nod approvingly as you pass it and all will be well.
really clear instructions with out waffle - thanks
Super nice video. Thank you so much for making it.
Dude yes. So informative.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you
thanks for your sharing this valuable video..thanks again
Excellent video! Thank you!
Take a drink everytime you hear, "Crampons"! Good luck!
clear and precise thanks
This is a terrific video.
Thanks this helps a lot
Excellent teaching.
Looking at getting into winter walking/ mountaineering in Scotland. I have a fair amount of summer experience but absolutely none in winter. Can anyone recommend a good winter skills course that includes use of ice axe and crampons, Avalanche knowledge and navigation.
Thanks Callum
wiredAV Thanks, will look into it
Fantastic video thank you.
What kind of boots are those?
Informative -- thank you very much.
great video, man :) Thanks for the info
Best video. Cheers
Really great. Thanks so much
No mention of descending "en canard" which is a very important technique.
That is how it should be explained.
Great video!!! Thanks!
Which model of crampons is it? Can you recommend about good pair in normal price (40-70$)?
Awesome video 👍🏻👍🏻🇳🇴
Great video ! Thank you!
Great vid, thanks.
Crampons on, crampons on, crampons on....ahh, there we go, good for the day now ;-)
Thanks man
Very useful, thank you!
Very nice. Thank you.
What brand are those crampons?
+ADK Wilderness petzl
+Sebastian Flynn Thanks
+Sebastian Flynn Thanks
I see you have Scarpa boots. Are those "alpine": crampons for vertical ice climbs? I only have mountaineering crampons that i have a hard time getting them snug so my heels don't slip. But I was ice climbing with mountaineering crampons which is not the correct gear, right?
+Maureen Anderson B3 are needed for ice climbing so that you fit in crampons that have strong front toe teeth :)

The only thing is, if I am hiking with someone, I am scared to poke them with my crampons.
You need to say “crampon” more often ....very good video otherwise !
The video is about carmpons.
My estimates point at the necessity to throw a random "crampon" into every other sentence. This would suffice.
Cwampon
Lol
I read this comment before watching the video and now I’m too distracted counting how many times he’s saying it 😅
putting yer crampons on
My favorite part was the iglu : )
did anyone count how many times he said crampon?
69
i like it...thanks
Crampon sounds like a type of muffin or scone.
Crampons on!
This is the type of guy to spend $15000+ on ice climbing gear alone
he uses the toilet wrong
It's such a palaver fitting those things that I'd keep them on boots for climbing, & go to the snow-level, etc wearing other footwear changing on the spot. Why demonstrate on smooth snowy slopes like that wearing a helmet!!?
Lara Croft brought me here.. :D
Just asking: is he Irish?
or Leeds?
Scottish:)
I know it's a bit late, but how could anyone not tell he's a Scot? Guess it helps that my best friend growing up was from Glasgow! :)
Please let there be snow, please.
he hee i wonder how they came up with the name of CRAMPONS? 🤣 Its sounds like having menstruation pains. I call them ice cleats
how many times is going to say crampons hahahhahah
I just want to say, I could have done this faster... not everyone is a pro like me
why the fuck am I watching this?
Boring
Thanks man
