  • Whilst on holiday in Galloway I got the opportunity to go for a day hike and went off to climb the highest point in Galloway and managed to bag 2 peaks.
The Merrick, 2860 ft is the highest point and offers a grand view of Galloway from the Solway Firth to the Mull of Kintyre.
Leaving the car park near Loch Trool it's a steady climb up to the bothy alongside the stream.
After the bothy, the hard work of climbing through the remnants of the forest begins and it's not until you are above what was the old treeline does it becomes easier. Then the climb to Benyellary once again saps your legs.
On the way up to the Merrick is Benyellary at 2360 ft gives a fantastic view of the Lochs below, I spent a good 30 minutes exploring the top.
The wind was incredibly strong as I left Benyellary but kept the day's heat at bay.
Arriving at the top I stopped for my lunch and enjoyed the view across to Ailsa Craig and the Mull of Kintyre, I was advised this wasn't normally visible.
The descent was nice and steady back to the car park.
A thoroughly enjoyable day hike and bagged 2 Corbetts along the way left me wanting to return and do some more...
Filmed on GoPro Hero 9 and edited in Filmora 11.

Fabulous video. Great editing. But you have to climb over 3000 ft to claim a munro.
    The Merrick is a Corbett.
Thanks for editing the video and uploading it.

Thanks for watching and commenting as well as subscribing., I did wonder and am happily corrected over Munro being the correct term. Either way I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to my next Galloway trip next year.
