Good morning and a massive congratulations on surpassing 500 subs, very well deserved for such a good and varried channel. We especially love all the nature, geology and wildlife shots you capture, not to mention your pleasant demeanor and excellent choice of locations you take us. Again really enjoyed this one and thanks for taking us along, enjoyed the climb up all bit it in the clouds. Feels extra satisfying when you get the veiws and the cloud finally breaks ❤⛰ loved the two giant ravens and that landscape was stunning! Really chuffed it cleared for you guys. Really stunning evening and great picth. Quote of the film "crawling into his bivvy bag like a wild animal"lol! Easy come easy go with the views, had a bit of everything hey! 🌬🏕⛰ pleased you didn't get blown away, thanks for the video and starting our day with this adventure! Catch you soon, have a great week, Ceri and Kat ☕❤👍

Hello Ceri and Kat. So many lovely comments in your post. Thank you 🙂. We were so crestfallen when we arrived at Glen Trool to find damp air and low cloud, especially after such a long drive. When the sun did appear it felt great, even if it was just for a few hours. In fact, thanks to that short window of clarity, I'd say this was my favourite walk/camp of the year so far. I love getting to know new areas and as soon as I arrived home out came the maps again and future Galloway plans were being sorted. Take care folks and best wishes, Chris

Well done on the 500 subs Chris well deserved.. Looks a great area up there, I had to cancel a trip up there to do the merrick & corserine last year as the restrictions kicked back In. Not sure on wether I'd have bivvied in that weather though so you're mate was braving it lol.. Great scenery & filming mate tfs. Andy.

Cheers Andy. Yep, didn't fancy the bivvy option at all. I gave it a go a couple of years ago locally and had a horrible time because of the midges. I've got my eye on Corserine, perhaps for next year. Also recently watched your Lock Skeen vid as I fancy up there sometime too. Looks great. ATB, Chris

Enjoyed this Chris, loved the detail you went into! The Galloway Hills are largely overlooked, but the landscape is fantastic. You're right about the names & it's been a great source of interest for me as I've explored the ranges - the best source I've found is the SMC book 'Scottish Hill Names'.
The Scarp looked great (would love one of these myself) - but the Bivvy not so much, haha!

    Aye up Chris…catching up again!!!!
Anyways hope your OK. Another informative and interesting post….your still the best for mixing up the interesting stuff for me as well as the landscapes, the walk inn out etc
I’ve never touched these hills other than driving through them to venture further north but…
Noting your comments about the unusual place names, it’s not that they are are unusual and possibly colloquial to the area and the interpretation of the landscape by those that frequented them….shepherds herders n drovers but, the fact that they are recorded in the English and not the Gaelic despite their location. Maybe something to do with the border influences of the English vis a vis their proximity. Maybe due to the Scottish barons licking the backsides of the English gentry n royalty….remember these lands changed hands many times and were given to Scottish barons in the 11TH c onwards. Just an interesting juxtaposition compared to the Gaelic residual names of mountain tops further north that have remained beyond the rebellion and Croft removals. Just shows what hardy chuffers the heelanders were and are compared to the southern lowlanders….as exemplified in the malt too…..just a comment and theory Chris before I get crucified…lol
Take care hope your ok …R

Hello Ron and thanks pal. Galloway I found to be brilliant, quite different from anywhere else I've been. Your observations are very interesting and I am sure you are on to something with your conclusions 👍. It's a fair old drive for me (with stops about five hours I recall) but I really would like to go back again. We had hoped to descend to Loch Enoch but the deterioration in the weather dampened any enthusiasm for that. Bye for now, Chris
