Home Alone is a 1990 American Christmas family comedy film written and produced by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus. It stars Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, and Catherine O'Hara.
The film follows Kevin (Culkin), an eight-year-old boy, who must defend his home from two burglars, Harry and Marv (Pesci and Stern), after his family accidentally leaves him behind on their vacation. It was filmed between February and May 1990 in a variety of locations throughout Illinois.
The film was originally meant to be distributed by Warner Bros., but was transferred to 20th Century Fox when Hughes exceeded the $10 million limit that had been imposed on the film's budget by Warner. Развлечения
Home Alone is not only a Christmas classic but a classic film period. I have always enjoyed this one immensely. I grew up watching it on VHS and it is considered to be a timeless film, but it was a sleeper hit in 1990 and exceeded anyone's expectations of it including the studio. This is also one of those films to me that cannot be remade and be nearly as good because of all of the elements that clicked together in ways that cannot ever be replicated. For instance, Culkin was just genuinely special. You could see why people thought he would be this massive star after its release. Plus the slapstick/physical comedy in this is hilarious and the performances by Pesci and Stern are comic gold just by themselves. Also, the plot is both engaging, relatable and heart warming. And it has a bit of an edge too that is missing in so many films. And it's got a uncredited cameo from the legendary John Candy as well. Oh and who could forget John William's iconic score. Somewhere In My Memory is one of his best pieces.
Just typing all this up, makes me want to watch and review this and Home Alone 2 all over again. Great job with the review and Merry Christmas, you filthy animal!
Agree with you
A Christmas Story and Home Alone are my most watched Christmas films of all time , It's practically a religion to watch them this time of year.
"Home Alone"(1990): 33 YEARS !!! *** 16 November 1990 *** 16 November 2023
6:41 Great point. I just re-watched this and the second one last night again, Home Alone is a holiday classic. I would like to see a documentary on this I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been one. Great job reviewing Home Alone.
Classic!, watch this on TV every year around Christmas, great performances from Culkin, Stern, Pesci, Blossom and John Candy
Without a doubt one of the best christmas movies ever made considering that it was Macaulay Culkin's breakout role. My favorite scenes are the church scene and the booby-trap scene.
@POOR PAR TV That church scene was so heartwarming to watch considering that it shows Kevin interacting with the old guy and realizing that he's not a bad guy but rather a misunderstood old guy who just wants to have friends.
There's a documentary called The Movies That Made Us and one episode was a Home Alone documentary : )
What more can be said about this film, classic. Culkin, great. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, fantastic.
Great review. You're on to something about timing, which is what the Hollywood remake machine can't seem to understand. All the elements were right in this movie at the right time. It's a solid film, a classic, and it never gets old, IMO. The stunts get far less recognition than they deserve. A live action cartoon, like you said. Forever grateful for that John Hughes magic, and I'm always moved to see John Candy each year when I watch this. Nice shirt! I think about Shocker all the time, lol.
Oh wow, perfect timing. I just sent a PayPal request for Code Pere Noel last night. Always been a big fan of the first 2. Good job on the review Matt!
This movie is a classic! loved it since i was 8 years old seeing it 3 times in theaters and been one of my faves and got the UHD 4K BD and it looks great in 4K
One of my all time favourite Christmas movies ever
Great review for not only a Christmas film but for a timeless classic!
My favorite scene is the gangster scene (Which we all wish was a real movie haha)
Gangster 'Johnny': [hears knock at door] Who is it?
Gangster 'Snakes': [Snakes comes in] It's me, Snakes. I got the stuff.
Gangster 'Johnny': Leave it on the doorstep and get the hell outta here.
Gangster 'Snakes': All right, Johnny, but what about my money?
Gangster 'Johnny': What money?
Gangster 'Snakes': Acey said you had some dough for me.
Gangster 'Johnny': That a fact? How much do I owe ya?
Gangster 'Snakes': Acey said 10%.
Gangster 'Johnny': [smirks] Too bad Acey ain't in charge no more.
Gangster 'Snakes': What do ya mean?
Gangster 'Johnny': He's upstairs takin' a bath. He'll call you when he gets out.
[pause]
Gangster 'Johnny': Hey, I tell ya what I'm gonna give *you*, Snakes.
[pulls out machine gun]
Gangster 'Johnny': I'm gonna give you to the count of 10, to get your ugly, yella, no-good keister off my property,
[shouts]
Gangster 'Johnny': before I pump your guts full of lead!
Gangster 'Snakes': [wide eyed and calm] All right, Johnny, I'm sorry. I'm goin'!
Gangster 'Johnny': 1... 2... 10!
[starts unloading bullets into Snakes while laughing maniacally]
Gangster 'Johnny': Keep the change, ya filthy animal!
Merry Christmas
Cracking job with the review Matt! Absolutely love this film, it's a total classic where every single element aligned perfectly and it just exudes charm. It's one of the few films to leave you with a genuinely warm, fuzzy feeling. For me it's the ultimate Christmas film, along with Die Hard ;) I feel that John Hughes was the Spielberg of comedy and his talents are sorely missed these days.
BEST Christmas Movie
The actor who played Buzz was also in Dennis the Menace as the boyfriend of Dennis's babysitter
Yep I found out about that years ago
weirdly enough i like this one better now as an adult (as a kid i thought it was ok, but now i see it's a classic)

In response to another comment you made, I'm not reacting to some random troll vid on youtube. He means nothing and he's not worth it. It'd be a waste of my time.
@@ramboraph4life oh ok
Love this movie and its still one of my favorite Christmas movie.
same. Home Alone 2 is my fav and the best in the series. IMO
I definitely enjoy the first two Home Alone films
I hope you get around to reviewing the Problem Child Movies soon.
Matt you gotta review the movie better watch out it’s like a slasher dark home alone movie lol
Pesci was actually jealous of all the attention MAC got, Pesci had recently won the Oscar for Goodfellas and was pissed he wasn’t treated like the star of the movie on Home Alone.
Without a doubt, "Home Alone" is the best Christmas classic of all time! Also, my favorite of the franchise and my favorite Culkin film! First saw it at 5 years old in theatres with my family and we had a wonderful time! Since then, watched it many times now that I owned all VHS, DVD and 4K Remastered Blu-ray! Macauley Culkin is smart and ingenious as Kevin McCallister, a kid who wants to be alone after his family including his brother, Buzz treating him like dirt even though they accidentally left him on their way for their holiday vacation. Of course, he has to defend his own home to stop "The Wet Bandits" themselves, Burglars Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern). Pulling all the traps against them! Also, getting to know the old man (Roberts Blossom) next door who he was afraid at first until the church scene. I also love their sequel as well, even if it's stuck on deja vu! Just 30 years of fun!
The kid version of Die Hard. Also by 20th Century Fox and Christmas-themed.
It was more like Straw Dogs than Die Hard. Kevin setting traps was influenced by David Sumner (Dustin Hoffman) setting up traps by the end of the film.
@johnny jerry
I love this and both Die Hard 1 and 2 and Lethal Weapon
