I am getting a huge brake upgrade for my Mini JCW Roadster and decided to go for the same Alcon brakes that are used in the Mini Challenge series. I was invited up to Alcon to see how the brakes are made and tested and to help me understand more about what makes my new brakes so special. While I was there I saw the manufacturing of the brakes for the Aston Martin Valkyrie. So many myths and misunderstanding about brakes and braking system. I learned so much and hope you will too.

For an engineer, this factory visit must be the closest thing to Christmas, or a kid going to a candy store or Disneyland. Ped looks so thrilled!
That was an amasing tour, how did anyone know how much science was involved, great one!!
Hello again, 'Mr Petrol Ped', Wow, very impressed, you really do have indepth technical knowledge on this subject, great to watch, I learnt a lot, many thanks to you and the people at Alcon who 'trusted' you to make a quality vlog. Regards, RichardA.
Tell you something ped, can see why you do training. You really engage your audience so well. One of many reasons why your Chanel goes from strength to strength! Great tour!
Great video, LOVE the ones that explain what is going on that you otherwise would never have the opportunity to fully understand once installed.
Great job PP that is a wonderful experience. Thanks
LLLLoved that! Just the right amount of nerdness for me. Always enjoy when skilled engineers explain things so well for the masses including myself.
Nice bunch at Alcon too.
I know brakes are important, didn't realise how much work goes in. Thanks, Pete, that was really interesting.
Neither did I 😜
Having started my career with Lucas Girling (braking systems) and then on to Bosch, it was nice to get some refresher schooling again!
That’s was a very good video Sir Pete! What a cool tour and explanation of brakes and how there made! Can’t wait to see the video with ruby and her new big brake kit!
Pete. That was excellent. Really like these technical reels. Who knew that about carbon ceramic breaks. Love it.
Morning Sir. Waaay more to stopping than I ever thought. Thankyou for sharing buddy. 👍👍👍
Really awesome video Ped. Interesting to watch. I picked up my first Mini Cooper S last night and I absolutely love it. Watching you and your channel over the past couple of years has definitely had an influence in my decision so thank you!
Great infomercial. Now I know about Alcon. Enjoy your new brake setup. Envy !
Cracking video, especially the walk around all the engineering into brakes.
Them discs look awesome but the calipers are like a work of engineering art.
Brakes were first job on my R50 mini. Then wheels and tyres then suspension. Just sold it and the guy that bought it was stunned how different to his r53 it was and almost sent him through the windscreen when I showed him how good the brakes are😁 Check behind you before you test Ruby's new brakes !!!
Nice UK-based educational vid on brakes and materials
Fascinating tour,well done Pete
Fascinating tour Peter 👍
Nice of Alcon to let you get a proper look at what and how they do there stuff.
Evening all, interesting informative vid Pete. Those disc's should make Ruby roadster stand on her nose 👍
Absolutely fantastic video Peter. What an amazing place and very interesting. Thanks for sharing this visit and can’t wait to see these being fitted to Ruby😉👍🏻
I can’t wait either. Get fitted on Friday 😬
Awesome vid fella! Alcon always have made a mega Brake and brake kit, can’t say I’ve ever had them but no from my motorsport experience.
Great and insightful video fella you know this kinda of thing is right up my street! ❤️🙌 no more Joe Achilles screaming a blood curdling scream and laugh because if you shocking old stock brakes 🤣🙌
That was so interesting. My knowledge of what goes on under the bonnet and the mechanicals is limited but I am learning with watching your films. Your day job aids you in these as it seems so effortless when you are telling us about parts to do with your cars.
Thanks John. I learned SO much. I hope to do more with Alcon and there was so much I could have talked about the vid could have been and hour long 😂
@@PetrolPed I for one and the guys who listen to the cycle Sunday podcasts are quite happy to listen to an hour of talk so I am sure many of us would happily listen to an hour of car talk.
Great video, nice to see a behind the scenes format
Happy Friday Pedlerz
Great film Ped. Very interesting indeed. Must be a fascinating place to work what they produce is beautifully made. Strangely I had never heard of them but must of seen lots of their products without even revealing it! Ruby is going to stop on a sixpence with those, massive upgrade :-)
I live in a village just outside tamworth, you could of come for a cup of tea, in that mug i won, have i ever mentioned i won a mug once.
Great video that was, really interesting.
Well that was an education! Hadn’t thought about callipers flexing.
Great place and amazing work by them, Alcon Valkyrie brakes for Ruby later on !! Nice one Pedro . Great piece tonight. 😊
Great video Ped, in Tamworth where I lived for 4 years in the 80’s! Big Automotive heritage there, former home of Reliant. You now start to understand why supercars cost so much money with the amount of design and engineering that goes into the manufacture of components such as these braking systems. Alcon, a great British Company in the heart of the Midlands👍😎
Absolutely brilliant engineering, your guests are incredibly knowledgeable! Blown away by the fabrication skills
Fantastic, been messing with cars most of my life and never really realised the complexity of the humble brake disc and calliper. 👍
Evening all 👋
Fascinating Peter you never realise what goes into designing and making the different brake systems which keep us safe, so thanks for this one. I know you are extremely busy but we are due a pup and pooch walk when do you think we might expect that???👍👍👍🚘🚘🚘😁😁😁
Brill info ! Great to see the science behind stopping.
That was awesome. 📢💨 Shoutout Alcon.🔥 Hey Alcon. We love you.❤ Alcon. Thank you 🤝. Thank you for opening your doors and granting the V.I.P access to Pete to bring in the cameras to film and document what goes on behind the scenes with the manufacturing of these great brakes. Incredibly interesting and informative. Thanks 💯%
Hi Ped
I am going to nominate this as The Video of The Year👏👏👏. Fascinating and a great insight into possibly one of the most important items in your car. Can we have more in due course along these lines, please.
I hope to do more with Alcon 👍
Stunning video Ped love what you have done to Ruby Roadster
That was an excellent video Pete. More of these please.
You are definitely Charlie with Willie Wonkas golden ticket getting a set of those for your Mini. It will stop on a sixpence.
great video and tour about one off the most important thing on a car. and maby a good idea to upgrade mine R58 normal breaks in the future. can't wait to see them mounted on Rudy.
Now I want to get a Mini just so I can put those on it. Wow!
😂😂😂
Pedro, Excellent, very insightful and interesting. Loved it ....
👍
Amazing video well done 👍
Every time we learn something new and cool from you 👍👍👍 now I am thinking what this guys could do for our GP3?
I need to get touch with them. Thank you again this is really good video 👍
Just hope those new brakes fit nicely behind your wheels with no clearance issues. Great video Ped.👍
Loved this I could not STOP!!! watching this great insight can’t wait to see how they work on the track👍
Great video!! Learned a lot on breaks. Nice products they have. Would put the pedal box in my living room just to look at it. It's great that you make content like this too. Enjoyed it a lot. Cheers.
I really enjoy how you are diversifying your content and taking us along this journey…whether it’s building a bike & talking about the intricacies of that…or how you edit and determine the content of your videos…driving a mini van…or improving driving skills…or at Good chasing time….I really enjoy it and am learning as well…like this one on Ruby Roadster’s up coming brake up grade….great great job & thank you sharing
Fascinating stuff Pete, pure petrolhead content.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Fascinating video Ped. I suggest the main reason you don't put Valkyrie brake components on Ruby Roadster might be..........price point.
Oh yes. There is that minor point. They would cost more than Ruby is worth 😂😂😂
Great content - very interesting subject & great knowledge & very informative !
Great content Pete, very informative and interesting, thankyou sir!
Really awesome video Ped. Interesting to watch. I learnt so much and now understand better my carbon ceramic brakes and why they might sometimes squell a bit at low speeds. It is something to brag about not be embaressed by. Can't wait for the fitting and track day video. Thanks for your work Pete.
Loved this, really interesting and another great video and top class content great job pete💥 👏
Loved this … very interesting video, thanks Pete
Fascinating vid - loved every minute 👍
Interesting about the brakes
Great Video ! Didn’t appreciate the amount of engineering that goes in to these performance brakes 👍
Really interesting video, thanks for sharing
Evening All 😊
Thank you , I learn a lot.
I enjoyed watching the Video
Coo to see those Doosan machines. I work those everyday at work, very good machines 👌🏼
Alcon are also epic 👌🏼
Great video really interesting company, thanks.
more of this,very intresting
Really interesting process. They are pieces of art, especially the callipers. You'll have to work on those neck muscles now to withstand the braking Gs!
Very informative video Pete 👍
A great, really interesting video. However, I was waiting for the technical explanation for the machined pattern on the brake disc faces but it never came!
Ah I did but never made the edit due to the length of the video. Their job is to get rid of brake dust and effectively clean the braking surface 👍
@@PetrolPed Perfect. Thanks for the explanation.
Hi Pete 👍👍
Very interesting video 👍.
I believe the valkerie uses carbon discs made by Surface Transforms in Liverpool ?
Yep 👍
I guess Alcon just makes the caliper and Surface Transforms make the brake rotor itself.
WoW nice one thanks for that very informative 💪🏿👌
👍
I drove a mapped Cooper-S a few months ago on some country lanes, the brakes were shocking! makes me wonder if the BMW Brakes are under engineered as standard?
That was a really good vid Pete, interested to see which pads you choose 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. They are being fitted on Friday so you won’t have to wait long 👍
Nice one
Brilliant content 👍👍
Thanks John 👍
Now then Now then lads
Evening all…
What size discs' are they?
Do U sell them in Australia 🇦🇺. For a Ford Focus 2015 RS 2015 LW .
Lovely that we are not importing everything, good to see proper engineering being done..
wow can i buy this same setup in USA? would love it in my mini coupe!
I suspect the Valkyrie calliper cost the same for one as Ruby Roadster cost for the whole car.
I think you could be right 😂
As a German, I would love to know how German TÜV or your MOT handles such an upgrade…
Third! Evening all! Just to remind those that are interested in F1 Quali is in an hour. Hope everyone has a nice weekend!
They must be costing a pretty penny... Hope Mr Achillies is chipping in a few quid..!!??!!
Impossible to have too much braking power! Well, almost.
Hi, good day to you. That company doesn’t make anything over here for VW’s.
CMM co ordinate measurement machine
CMM = Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (not Computer)
8 th 😂
those brakes are ridiculous, I hope you're belted in tightly the first time you get on them, you may taste your steering wheel. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
