Singkamas .."Turnip" in English.... One of the bests thirst quencher ... Pag nagustuhan mo ang lasa. Masarap yang isawsaw sa suka na may konting sugar.. black pepper or chili.
It's lovely watching you all together, I like singkamas is like turnip and is really good to make fresh Lumpia, so enjoy the rest of the holidays with your family .. 👪
This is Philippines. Lovely people's, safe country, normal life, nice and perfect place to live, nice foods to eat. Enjoy and welcome to your new home.
Nothing better like a relaxing family time at the family farm...so reminded me of my childhood when my parents and grandparents were all still alive. Treasure every precious moment Sus&Jon, there's nothing like it in life.
I know it felt so good to be with your parents in your new home in the Philippines, after a long time, isnt it? I do feel homesick here in California because it’s been 12 yrs I haven’t visit my family in Manila, especially my twin sister, but I don’t have my parents anym re, both are deceased more than 10yrs ago. At least now you enjoyed a few days in El Nido and Coron with them an I’m sure they had been very happy with you and Jonathan. See you on your next blog.
To be honest with about your parents.. I think they are so adjusted to there in the Philippines that they seem so comfortable they would probably wouldn't mind living the rest of their lifes there... then of course with being with their beautiful daughter makes it easier :)
i thought your parents would stay longer. i find their stay is quite short. but i’m happy they were able to visit you and see the Philippines and enjoyed it ❤
Sadly they only had 2 weeks! They are running a business now in Hungary that they can't abandone longer for now. They will be back soon tho hopefully even longer 🤗
Singkamas or Jicama reminds me of my childhood. We biked always to Jicama farm in our barangay and we use it for salad, egg rolls, lumpia, and vegetable stirfry
Susie, 2 weeks of your parents vacation here in the Philippines is too short. They have to see more of the beautiful places of our country and 1 month of stay is just enough.
Hope your parents enjoyed their stay in the Philippines, I can understand their difficulties understanding the local dialects. But you're a smart and brave person you know how to deal with local people around the area wherever you go. Enjoy life in the Philippines' paradise.
Hope they try local fish like Catfish or Hito and hope you can tour them in BGC or in Makati district before they leave Philippines and it was nice to see your both parents enjoying their stay here!♥️
Susie, we slice the singkamas, sprinkle with vinegar, red chili, and salt. Place it in the bowl with cover and shake it to blend all ingredients together. Somehow, it taste good. I learned this from my friends. Be careful of the chili and salt. You don't like it too hot and salty. Experiment it first. You can control all the additives the way you like it. 😊
@Susie in the Philippines I hope you like it. You can do the same to the raw mango. Preferably Indian mango. The other type of mango is good too, but some people love it with shrimp bagoong. 😁
*_im sure, your parents will miss their Ph life when they left our country... singkamas (turnip)😊 is vegetables but almost consider fruit on summer time. best match with alamang bagoong when chilled!_*
Who knows, maybe 5-10 years from now, your parents will be living with you in your own hundred-acre hacienda with your pet farm animals roaming around the property, while you're chilling beside your own personal river/waterfalls, as you are watching your kids splashing on the water with Pixel. 🥰
I believe Susie’s parents practice more vegetarian diet, occasional pescatarians. So that is why no balut, & Susie explained in a previous vlog that’s why she doesn’t eat balut either though she eats other Phil. eggs. Like the red ones, century eggs I think they’re called.
Singkamas is Jicama in English. It is from Mexico, brought over by the Spanish (we got its name from the ancient Nahuatl name for it - Xicamatl). Jicama is a vine, turnip is a leafy vegetable. They are not closely related at all, although the jicama is sometimes called "Mexican turnip."
