Years later, I still am incredibly impressed how well this fit the dark souls universe.

It's funny because at the time people said it didn't fit. But I think that's bull.
In the end, the one true color was the Dark Soul, with which the Painting Woman will paint a cold, dark, and very gentle place.

@@ravagex8725 Not gonna lie, I'd usually disconnect after beating Pontiff Sulyvahn and entering Aldritch Faithful territory, because I keep getting those jerks who do nothing but hide and prevent me from progressing in hopes that other invaders eventually kill me. So I feel ya.
When I realized that this song was word by word the same as the Cyndi Lauper original, it came to me how just tone can change the meaning.
The original felt like a song of a person who encouraging someone to be themselves, as in "It doesn't matter if you are not normal, I love you for who you truly are". This version, on the other hand, feels like the whispers of a temptress who telling you to let yourself lose. As in "Stop holding it in and just give into the madness".

I know, I thought it was a grimdark song till I heard the original, is cheesy and too lighthearted
I REALLY love this song after hearing it in the trailer. I find it silly that so many people are COMPLETELY ripping on it, it fits. It's haunting, dark, and sinister, it fit the theme very well.

+TheAsylumCat it's definitely not the minority. I really like the song but it still doesn't fit dark souls. Any non Opera vocals don't really fit with DS imo.

Also I think that the trailer would have benefited more without the vocal, The song's instrumental parts are great and DkS always did speak with its enchanting instruments rather than singing.
Anyway I just treat this as Bloodborne's hunt you down trailer but that was better.

It's a trailer song. Almost all the trailer songs are like this. Dark Souls 1 had All Saints Day and Bartholomew by the Silent Comedy, Dark Souls 2 had Aching Bones by Nadine Shaw.
These songs are meant to be more representative of the trailer and a feel of what its trying to show off.
The marketing for dark souls 3 has been heavily focused on a "embrace darkness" theme, and this song captures that, a dark melancholic song about seeing the dark inside yourself.
You guys are acting like this is official soundtrack to the game rather than just a trailer.

I hear way to many people ripping on this cover, I believe it's amazingly done. Not only does it take a very positive happy song and turn it into this haunting, crazed and obsessive tone it also fits it's purpose perfectly. It shows the dark and sinister nature of the souls world but also pushes you to carry on your journey though the challenges you face crush you at first. It's a goddamn masterpiece and I love it

When the song says "and thats why I love you", it talks about the players general love for the game and how we admire it.
Then when it comes to "don't be afraid to show your true colours", its referring to how we FUCKING RAGE AND SHOW HOW WE REALLY FEEL ABOUT THE GAME COS OF ITS RIDICULOUS FUCKING NAMELESS KING AND BULLSHIT PVP LAG HIT DETECTION!
But overall, amazing song and game

I killed it second try in 7 hits after he dismount.
(I was level 84 with a custom-made bleed build.)
THE 0NLY 0NE the challenge lies when it takes 15-20 hits minimum to kill it and you kinda need to dodge and block like a mofo to beat him instead of trashing him with damage.
This really is an amazing trailer song. All the same lyrics as the original, but the tone makes it feel corrupted and twisted to a darker meaning.
Kinda sounds fitting for a medieval dark fantasy horror game.

I feel this song is giving the idea on how the Dark or Abyss is to the undead who are afflicted by the curse. As if they were in the stage of going hollow and they hear the abyss as a whisper which would explain why the song sounds so beautiful. This game is about the end of a cycle where in theory the dark soul wants to become one again maybe the cycle has lasted too long. And in Dark Souls III we are seeing a result of no one linking the first flame and the dark sign calling in for the cycle to end. This song fits perfectly with that idea IMO
indeed there is a great power in the dark soul, Manus was proof of how Humanity is not only Dangerous but the abyss they imbue power from is like a plague, Darkness effecting and tainting all that it touches and that while the Darkness can be slowed it can never be truly stopped.

I don't understand why everybody hates this song. I mean, yeah, it's True Colors. But who cares? It sounds lovely.
As a person irl, I'm rather caring and compassionate. However in the game, I always use strength build, and I beat up everything to pulp. No one dare to stand in my way, even if there are I will punch my way to forge my path. And after listening to this song I truly question myself which is the real me. The "mr. good guy" who's typing this comment rn, or that ruthless brute in the game who art a lord, not through virtue, but through might.

This song always made me remember of Hawkeye Gough from the original Dark Souls game. Everybody seens to think that this song is about letting yourself lose to the darkness but i like to think quite the opposite. I believe darkness is in all of us, it is a part of who we are and as more we progress in life more we lose of our innocence and more the dark prevail. In the end, time wear out all of us, even the heroes.
But when Gough helps us defeat that last threat in Anor Londo we see a special moment, that rare moment where in a glimpse of nostalgia we show the essence and fighting ability of once was. Where we shine our true colors, behind all the darkness.

I like to think the firekeepers singing this.
This song has a deep lore significance. Why? Because it wants you to embrace your Darkness to become.....The Dark Lord. To destory the flame and let the darkness consume by embracing your animalistic instinct.
Unfortunately, this is the true ending of Dark Souls 3. Even the final edition of the game is called "The Fire Fades edition." Sadly, the last ashen one who took up the mantle of making the decision of the world decided to let everything go and became the Dark Lord of Humanity.
Even as a Lore scholar.....this...truly is one of the darkest universes ever created by humanity. But if you think Dark Souls is dark.....(Cue sinister laugh!!!!)........Elden Ring and Bloodborne bring torment and destruction to everything you ever loved.

I love this song just because of the instrumentation, but the lyrics are great because they can be interpreted as coming from the Fire Keeper or Yuria of Londor, which gives the song a totally different meaning depending on which perspective you attribute the lyrics to.

Personally I think this would be better (and also more well received) if the part that starts about a minute in was cut somehow. I think the start of it up until then is pretty cool for the game (not for being played in the game but as a trailer song), but that part stands out to me as taking the song down the rankings a bit. When it comes back at the very end tho it works a bit better

well both are already in the soulsborne universe, Dark Souls 1&2 always offered an ending that was in short an acceptance and prosperity in the dark and Bloodborne was praising the good blood and the Moon Presence
