I was really considering it, but then saw that another guy riding in Africa got his forkpack knocked off by a motorcyclist near the Kenya/Uganda border. They seem more fragile than a frame bag. Also, I like being able to jump my front wheel over obstacles easily.
Nice overview! Why no front rack if the bike is too back heavy? You could add two small panier or dry bags to the front.
I have gone back and forth on the idea of adding a front rack. In the end, I’ve held off because it just seems like one more thing that can break.
If you don't want a front rack why not use forkpacks?

I'm not sure there's an ideal setup. I'm just trying things out to see what works. I rode across the United States with just a back rack and panniers.
