    If you don't want a front rack why not use forkpacks?

    • @bradzerivitz
      @bradzerivitz 2 месяца назад

      I was really considering it, but then saw that another guy riding in Africa got his forkpack knocked off by a motorcyclist near the Kenya/Uganda border. They seem more fragile than a frame bag. Also, I like being able to jump my front wheel over obstacles easily.

    • @bradzerivitz
      @bradzerivitz 2 месяца назад

      I'm not sure there's an ideal setup. I'm just trying things out to see what works. I rode across the United States with just a back rack and panniers.

  • @edzeppelin933
    @edzeppelin933 2 месяца назад

    Nice overview! Why no front rack if the bike is too back heavy? You could add two small panier or dry bags to the front.

    • @bradzerivitz
      @bradzerivitz 2 месяца назад

      I have gone back and forth on the idea of adding a front rack. In the end, I’ve held off because it just seems like one more thing that can break.

    • @bradzerivitz
      @bradzerivitz 2 месяца назад

      I used my old Panasonic LX100 and a gorilla pod . It’s a nice camera, but I missed having a flip out screen. I could only set it up in places where I could get around to the back to see the screen. I have tried and tried to find a replacement, but nothing is ideal. The ZV-1 comes close, but I like a viewfinder. The A6700 is good too, but it’s huge in comparison.

    • @louisrafaelcom
      @louisrafaelcom 2 месяца назад

      @@bradzerivitz I've been considering the Sigma FP L, but it's pricey for a riding camera and the AF is apparently not great for the money… I have Blackmagic cameras, but not the OG Pocket, which would be the only actually small one. Otherwise it's Nikon Z6 ii and Z9, the lenses for which are massive.

    • @bradzerivitz
      @bradzerivitz 2 месяца назад

      @@louisrafaelcom I don't think there's a single ideal camera. The only other one that seemed closed to perfect is the Sony RX100 VII, but I didn't want to spend the money.

    Just curious. Wouldn’t it be better to start from the west so you’re not facing the hot setting sun every afternoon? There’s obviously a good reason why you chose westward, but is the afternoon sun an issue?

    • @bradzerivitz
      @bradzerivitz 6 месяцев назад

      I don't think the position of the sun was an issue. I decided to go west because I liked the idea of starting from home and doing familiar trails (C&O and GAP) at the beginning of the trip, and saving the exciting Western states for the end. I also didn't want to have to deal with shipping my bike until I was done.

      Hey Jeff, I basically followed the Eastern Express Route, the Trans Am and a little of the Lewis & Clark route. They're all available through Adventure Cycling (with really detailed maps). This is pretty close to what I did: ridewithgps.com/routes/38423565

  • @Beertownbill
    @Beertownbill 8 месяцев назад

    Wise call stopping when you got to WA! I did the TransAm in 2022. I jumped onto the L&C route once I got to Idaho. Growing up in Oregon, I didn't feel the need to cover familiar territory, so instead opted for the shortest route to Astoria. It was late July and the weather was hot. After leaving Lewiston, I did a short ride to Pomeroy (motel), 69 miles to Walla Walla (warmshowers), 88 miles to Crow Butte CG, and 78 miles to The Dalles (warmshowers). I had no problems getting water except for that last day. Fortunately, several Good Samaritans stopped to provide aid. I actually think I was in the early stage of heat stroke. The rest of the ride was much more enjoyable than that stretch in WA!!!
