- A very interesting article from Far Out Magazine with our Purple One's collaboration with Kate Bush in the early 1990's. As a young boy in the late 70's Kate Bush certainly attained a higher level of attention from me and raised my expectations of my ideal woman as yet to be met (lol.. u know what I mean).. my all time favourite Kate Bush being Running up That Hill and was released around the same time as Around the World in a Day. I recall listening to them both in 1985 simultaneously.. 👑💜

I actually think Prince & Kate Bush have commonalities -- they were born one month apart in 1958 and were both child prodigies. Both introverts (Prince was shy like Kate), they both were wildly creative with clear visions and forged their own path come hell or highwater. Kate famously insisted her record company release Wuthering Heights as the first single, Prince famously told his record company that he was producing, writing and playing all the instruments on his first record. First albums released 1978. Kate & Prince incorporated dance and theatre into their stage shows, both were beautiful & petite with huge expressive eyes. Both were attached to their homeland (Kate: south England, Prince: Minneapolis area). Yes, their styles were different-- but it was born out of place - Kate's Englishness vs Prince's funky Minneapolis roots. Both genius and my favorite artists.

Plus I think they both have SCORPIO as their Rising signs (introverted demeanor) yet Prince was a GEMINI Sun with PISCES Moon whereas Kate is a LEO Sun with Aquarius Moon.
Coincidentally, Lenny Henry was also born in summer of 1958 -- all three of them around a month apart

I remember hearing this song for the first time and listening to the chorus thinking "oh prince would have been great in this". Well now I feel quite silly, lol.

I love how Prince was too mercurial to capture and describe in a sentence.He did so much and was unashamed to go speeding through where others would have preferred a measured and analytical pacing.
Kate Bush is a favourite of mine too but it's easier to pinpoint her best work for me.

This is one of my all time fav songs. There is so much happening and it's saying so much but with such finesse that in less capable hands it would have been a mess. I love that it sounds like Kate Bush and Prince made a song and you know it from the minute it plays. It's so funky and wistful and you can almost hear all the intricacies of their process and their whole relationship with each other both musically and personally. It's fascinating.
Here cause I read about this collabloration. Now that I've heard it Prince's involvement is unmistakable and undeniable. So happy these two legends worked together and formed a tight friendship.

I have always liked the track. Apparently Kate Bush sent it to Prince and he broke it down into pieces and reassembled it, with his contributions, into something totally different. Kate Bush and her engineer had to break it apart again and reassemble to get this. Thanks for posting as always. Isn't Lenny Henry on vocals here as well?

It shows, it's a bit of a mess but to be fair to Prince the original demo had about three completely different feels going on and needed sorting out. Sounds like Kate and her producer still couldn't make their minds up even after Prince streamlined it.

It was a long shot from the start bcz the 2 artists needed to be together, at least in the gestation process - and neither of them work that way. She was probably looking for 1986 Prince (Linn Drums/ minimalistic atmospheric production) and instead she got 1990 Prince (Partyman!) - still tho, great track nonetheless

I prefer the Demo with Kate Bush singing alone. Yes, she has sang with a few different Music Stars in the past. This, with Prince, (I love Princes Music.) Is so unlike the way Kate Sings. She sounds Great I cannot argue with that, the Tempo is Horrid. Backing singer's over powering Kate at times. A lot of people will love this song with Princes input sounds like a Pop Song in parts. Totally Unlike her beautiful Songs Kate sings so eloquently. This is only My Opinion. 👩🏽🦽😷🕊
