One of the greatest male skaters ever... He has everything. I'm just amazed by his performance. So brilliant. It's so good to see young skaters with this technical and artistic level... Once you have known past generations, people tend to say, no one is going to skate like them, blablabla... And then comes this new generation, which makes me drop my jaw... I'm such a fan. Congratulations. And thanks for the post.
My Lord, that was just brilliant. I saw the link on Twitter and immediately came to check him out. That was such a passionate performance, like singing an aria! Just wonderful, gave me chills.
Like the two commentators, I also had tears in my eyes after watching this amazing performance. What a fabulous program Patrick skated! I wonder if I would ever see another free skate as moving as this one.
Oh my gosh, no one had a chance against Patrick. That was such a beautifully done routine, I actually cried when he was finished. He's amazing. I believe, if he continues to do this well in competition, he'll get gold, or at least a medal in Sochi 2014.
OMG PAT CHAN! YOU'RE INSANE! I LOVE THE WAY YOU MOVE ON ICE LIKE WIND! I LOVE YOUR ENERGY! I LOVE YOUR PASSION! OMG!!! YOU'RE GORGEOUS!!! INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gripping stuff It's programs like these that will bring back fans that figure skating has lost over the years. I'm South African and we certainly don't have any where the quality of skater that Chan is(and probably never will) it is still great to see what's possible
@sumimimi0 you are correct it was not a mistake, but the connecting move was a half loop, not a 3-turn. Wiki: A related jump in figure skating is the half loop. In spite of its name, it is a full rotation jump. It differs from a regular loop jump in that it is landed on the opposite foot, on a backward inside edge. Half loops are only done as single jumps, and are primarily used as connecting elements in a jump sequence, before a salchow jump or flip jump which take off from a back inside edge.
Fantastic skate. WOW,2 quads, triple axel, and lots and lots of other triples, footwork to die for, and spins, Wow. This will be hard to beat if he skates like this at Worlds.
Easily....easily EASILY the greatest free skate in the history of the sport. Unreal!! The speed, the polish, the presentation, the quality of movement, plus 2 quads, one in combo
As Ryan Bradley said of himself, "one year too late!" This would be the OGM if this was one year ago. Simply brilliant and flawless! The 3T-half loop-3S was a combo according to the new rule change, not an error, nor a sequence. It gets full score for (3T+1L+3S)81.1 as it was done in the later half of the progam, huge scores! Joannie could have got a couple of more scores if the rue had been in place during the olympic year. she got (3T+3S)*0.8*1.1 I believe.
so glad he gave this performance. i've been against him all season since the judges has been overmarking him to hell and back despite his constant falls. but if he can skate like this at worlds, he should easily establish himself as the world's top skater.
just a side note on the triple toe half loop triple salchow combination .... i think this year the half-loop in the combination counts as a single loop in the scoring ... since, after all, the half loop is a 360 rotation ... some skaters in the past have used this combination ... surya bonaly in her 1994 worlds free skate and some other occasion, Tara Lipinski 1998 olympics free skate, maria butryskaia in the 2002 winter olympics free skate, joannie rochette last season.
lol just loved how his mom looks like she has no idea what the hack is happening. His parents didn't even smile or clap during or after the perfomance, they are very very humble people
@mdf1960 no. that is a turn.. if not, how to do salchow? i also thought that was wrong when i saw joannie rochette doing that. but i found out that that was the 3-turn before going into salchow
@sumimimi0 OK, thanks for the correction. I doubt if he can repeat this performance at Worlds, however. (Remember Jeremy Abbott's problems last year after his sensational performance at Nationals?)
Wow. That was incredible. I've some some great skates in my time, and that's one of them. However, the problem with being so brilliant at Nationals is keeping it up at Worlds. However, has Chan has had a fairly good season, so hopefully he can keep it up.
@MagZness Someone loaded the CBC version with Kurt and Tracy. Love their reactions and it's a pleasure not to have to listen to these women. I appreciate that you loaded this for so many to enjoy, it's just that I don't like to hear talking all the way through.
@SimonaCB History is defined as what happened in the past, not as what's going to happen in the future. ;) And I'm not a fortune teller either. ;) And I was talking about the complexity of the entire program as a whole, and not particular elements (although they were all very well performed). I actually wouldn't be surprised if we only ever saw a few programs of similar difficulty.
Phenomenal performance!! I still feel there's room to improve by embodying the character more fully, especially emoting more. Physically Patrick could slick his hair back to visually mimick the Phantom more closely and I'd love to see a costume change. I think these improvements would put this already untouchable performance to one we'll be talking about long after Patrick's skating career.
I think he might take the world title. I watched all programs from the best 20 skaters, and I can say it is Patrick Chan and Takahashi who are most likely to take it. Takahashi had problems landing his first quad, so if he fails to do that in the worlds as well, then Patrick has the title, however, if both perform flawlessly...then boy oh boy judges are gonna have a hard time deciding. However, I would say that Takahashi has better presentation that might just give him the edge.
@SimonaCB Yes, we will see skaters executing even harder jumps in the future but that's beside the point. The point is that this kind of quality of basic skating, which allows him to have tons of transitions connecting all the elements together (because he generates speed so easily) is very rarely seen and I doubt we will see much of it in the future. We might not even ever see it again. The vast majority of skaters (whether now or in the past) don't do much besides stroking into their elements.
@maovays See, the point here is that Chan excels at absolutely everything (well as long as he doesn't fall 3 times) and there weren't really any weak points in that performance. None of the programs you mentioned were anywhere near as complex in terms of transitions or program layout. And I don't remember them ever being performed with all the technical elements executed to such a high standard either.
If Patrick skates like this at Worlds then he will be nearly impossible to beat. A top performance from Brian Joubert wouldn't come close to this program.
@filipinoICEsk8ter That she might be, but it seems like they gush over her all the time like she's the only choreographer out there. I wish the skaters had to make their own programs, it would at least make it more interesting, especially considering everyone needs to get a "Nicol" program to hope and pray for component marks. I'm sure half the competition is done by her, and the top skaters like Patrick get their programs paid for by the federation, (sometimes up to 10,000 per program). Crazy.
I wish someone would post the CBC version and not the Bold version. I would rather hear Kurt and Tracey with their sparce and appropriate comments than the chattering on this video. Doesn't someone have the CBC Sports video?
it's great, but it's funny how much these people gush about Lori Nichol, I mean I think they say it like 5 times in this video, it's like they're her ad department. They probably give out better choreography marks just for having her name on your coaches list. Ugh.
Here is the CBC FS version.. all you needed to list was cbc men's long program... sometimes it's easy as that...sometimes you can't find anything no matter how hard you try..anyhow..here it is
@cheburashka19 I only mentioned Joubert because he thinks he still has a shot at the top with a clean program. Personally I think Joubert should have retired at the end of last season. He will never grow artistically to the level of other top competitors.

Wielka przyjemność po latach obejrzeć przepiękną jazdę Brawo ,jeszcze raz brawo.
His skating... he just proves why this sport exists for. Just gorgeous to watch him skating and the smile at the end of the music..

I love how Patrick interprets the music! His performance is so charming!!!
I'm amazed by the flawlessness of Patrick Chan's jumps!
Patrick Chan does the most beautiful quad toe. Love the choreography. Hes definitely going to win gold if he performs like this at worlds.
Like the two commentators, I also had tears in my eyes after watching this amazing performance. What a fabulous program Patrick skated! I wonder if I would ever see another free skate as moving as this one.

lovely!! Patrick is perfect! Perfect jumps, perfect everything! I look forward to see him represent Canadians in Worlds!
Amazing performance and song!!
Phenomenal performance.
he is SO SMOOTH! Really beautiful to watch.
Amazing performance!
OMG PAT CHAN! YOU'RE INSANE! I LOVE THE WAY YOU MOVE ON ICE LIKE WIND! I LOVE YOUR ENERGY! I LOVE YOUR PASSION! OMG!!! YOU'RE GORGEOUS!!! INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
every creature on the planet would love this performance.
Amazing!
I pray that he can repeat this performance at the world championships and that he didn't peak too soon.
Gripping stuff It's programs like these that will bring back fans that figure skating has lost over the years. I'm South African and we certainly don't have any where the quality of skater that Chan is(and probably never will) it is still great to see what's possible
Perfection. You can't get any better than this :D
Im proud to be Canadian. HE DID A QUAD!
wow that was epic. i got shivers watching that!
Canada is PROUD of you Mr Chan!!!!
That was just amazing, brilliant, wow!

amazing! wish i was there in the stadium in victoria. go patrick!
my best friend is friends with this guy i might meet him thumbs up for his skating
What are you even talking about his artistry is beautiful!

Shawn Sawyer and Joey Russell .... they sure appreciated good skating...they were all smiles.. that is what good sportsmanship is all about..
Omg, Patrick's feet.
he was AMAZING...!
so glad he gave this performance. i've been against him all season since the judges has been overmarking him to hell and back despite his constant falls. but if he can skate like this at worlds, he should easily establish himself as the world's top skater.
WOW WOW WOW, simply the best...
HOW can 4 people dislike this?!? Obviously blind. Patrick Chan - Phenomenal
brilliant program chjrepgraphy and execution!!!
just a side note on the triple toe half loop triple salchow combination .... i think this year the half-loop in the combination counts as a single loop in the scoring ... since, after all, the half loop is a 360 rotation ... some skaters in the past have used this combination ... surya bonaly in her 1994 worlds free skate and some other occasion, Tara Lipinski 1998 olympics free skate, maria butryskaia in the 2002 winter olympics free skate, joannie rochette last season.
NO NO NO I MISSED THIS ON TV.
STUPID EXAMSSS.
Seriously I don't understand much about figure skating, but this was so wonderful! *-*
lol just loved how his mom looks like she has no idea what the hack is happening.
His parents didn't even smile or clap during or after the perfomance, they are very very humble people
huge fan
Before I wasn't a big fan of Chan, but yikes, this was amazing!
OMG! I would give him 10 for the skating skills, he's flying!
This guy amkes me proud to be Canadian . :)
Holy crap. He sure wasn't doing this last time I saw him.
his little footwork was amazing,
why couldn't do this at the Olympics
@mdf1960 no. that is a turn.. if not, how to do salchow? i also thought that was wrong when i saw joannie rochette doing that. but i found out that that was the 3-turn before going into salchow
That was amazing, I have no problem with his scores when he skates like that! The only possible improvement would be to get in the 3 jump combo!
@sumimimi0 OK, thanks for the correction. I doubt if he can repeat this performance at Worlds, however. (Remember Jeremy Abbott's problems last year after his sensational performance at Nationals?)
so excited!! 2quads + incredible skateing!?!
Wow. That was incredible. I've some some great skates in my time, and that's one of them. However, the problem with being so brilliant at Nationals is keeping it up at Worlds. However, has Chan has had a fairly good season, so hopefully he can keep it up.

@adamzapple666 At 3:15 he singles the second jump of a 3 jump combo. A small error, correct?
@mdf1960 No, it's not an error. It's a half-loop.
I think he might take the world title. I watched all programs from the best 20 skaters, and I can say it is Patrick Chan and Takahashi who are most likely to take it. @mdf1960 um... which combo? they were all done properly!?
Very clean skate wow.
tasteful costume!!!
bravo.
interesting for such points
Brilliant.
Patrick is the Alexei Yagudin of his generation!
ty ImaginaryPogue
If Patrick skates like this at Worlds then he will be nearly impossible to beat. A top performance from Brian Joubert wouldn't come close to this program.
who could dislikethis...??? they must be really jealous :S'
@Proustable Oh, that is right! I forgot about this rule change! Thanks, then it was as good as he can do!!
do guys not incorporate the spiral into their routine anymore?
chan and takahashi fan!!!!
FLAWLESS O_O
Wow.
@014trainman That's all him - he's a great spinner!
@1867TrueNorth
But at least it's nice to hear Josee Chouinard
@filipinoICEsk8ter That she might be, but it seems like they gush over her all the time like she's the only choreographer out there. Actually you can. He keeps doing it year after year ;)
@maovays Name one program, more complex than this, skated to this standard then.
Somewhere Ozzie is smiling :)
I wish someone would post the CBC version and not the Bold version. I would rather hear Kurt and Tracey with their sparce and appropriate comments than the chattering on this video. Doesn't someone have the CBC Sports video?
@SimonaCB And if you can show me a Dick Button's program that's anywhere near as complex, I would love to see it. :P
Oh My God
@jarwillnc Joubert, really? Joubert's SO far behind Chan, Takahashi, Kozuka, Oda, Abbott, Rippon, Verner......c'mon!!!
it's great, but it's funny how much these people gush about Lori Nichol, I mean I think they say it like 5 times in this video, it's like they're her ad department. They probably give out better choreography marks just for having her name on your coaches list. Ugh.
WOW!ヽ(゚◇゚ )ノ
excellent!
This guy isnt human.
he really attempt to be the best in the quadruple !1
Here is the CBC FS version.. all you needed to list was cbc men's long program... sometimes it's easy as that...sometimes you can't find anything no matter how hard you try..anyhow..here it is
@jarwillnc Absolutely. He really should have retired...anyway I can't wait to see how they'll all do at worlds:)
whoa... His parents look nothing like him...
@cheburashka19 I only mentioned Joubert because he thinks he still has a shot at the top with a clean program. Personally I think Joubert should have retired at the end of last season. He will never grow artistically to the level of other top competitors.
Great, but not perfect as had a bit of trouble with one jump combination.
@cheburashka19 I only mentioned Joubert because he still thinks he's has a shot with a clean program. Personally I think Joubert should have retired at the end of last season. He will never grow artistically to the level of other top skaters.
@bleachster123 I know iw as like umm ?
