Awesome review! I couldn’t agree more with you. I always struggled to articulate what attracted me to this game, and what kept me hooked. I bought this years ago on Steam, and recently on PSN for the PS5. It’s a masterpiece of a game!
@@theSHELFables 100% hooked :) - I’ve been playing Souls games for a while, and needed a diversion; the Warriors games are so addictive, with DW8XLE being the pinnacle for Dynasty Warriors, and Warriors Orochi 3 being the top of the synergy, and SW4, SOS and 5. But DW8XLE is simply awesome. Thanks to you I can articulate just why! Great review!
Have you played all of the warriors games? If so would you consider making a more videos on them? I want to play them all now and I'm interested in knowing the bullet points on each game
What I actually love about Koei with their franchises is that they actually try to spice things up with their games. Sometimes, this works like with amazing games like Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce and Godseeker, but then it leads to devisive titles like Dynasty Warriors 6 or 9. If you're looking to try out other Dynasty Warriors games, I highly recommend 4 and 7 which are my personal favorites, but are also the games I think personify how amazing these games can be. As for non-Dynasty musou games, I highly recommend Samurai Warriors 4 (PS4/5), Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition (Switch), Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 1 (PS3), and Fire Emblem Warriors (Switch)
As growing older,i see that playing game to relax and having a fun time much better than try-harding a game that give you more thing to think about or stressing out That what Dynasty Warriors aim for, relaxing also having a blast with the over dramatic character, overpower fighting, over streroids male and good looking female character
I understand what you mean...im a fire emblem warriors three hopes fan and most dynasty warriors fans sleep on it just because the first game was universally hated by most so even the museo community does this
I was really used to how 7 did things so getting this massive pile of repeat weapons early on and trying to engage with the loot system kind of put me off early on. I should try this game out again. Also i don't really know how much I like the 3 point system I think it's kind of odd
@@vaughnrudy8084 I'm a fan of the 3 point system because it gives you a reason to actually switch your weapons outside of just doing combos. I think it's a good addition. Thanks for watching btw!
I understand the reviews, I played a lot of DW 4 and 5 and though 5 was very similar to 4 I had not overdosed yet on the gameplay and the few improvements were enough for me. DW6 though I couldn't play for long, it's not that it was bad, but it was really the same game, the new stuff wasn't enough, if anything some of the fun stuff had been toned down a bit if I remember well. I don't think none of those games are bad, but even more than for Far Cry or Assassin's Creed, the games aren't different enough to justify playing all the games in the series. I might try 8 though, it's been long enough since I played a DW game (or Hyrule Warriors which is exactly the same thing but with a Zelda disguise).
@@NassimPanda I think the cool thing about iterative series like Assassin's Creed, CoD or even DW is that it will be there doing its thing so if you don't find every entry worth playing, you can dip for a few installments and then just come back when you have the itch for it
6 wasn't good because they got rid of the combo system and it became a "press square" spam fest with very little combat potential. It took what every other game before it did, removed it, and replaced it with something worse. That's the single things that kept me from enjoying it. Would have been great if they had simply kept the combo system in.
I always liked these games. Played Warriors Orochi and WO2 for way too much time. But I gotta be honest, the reviewers weren't wrong. They are basically the same games and they are pretty much mindless button mashing games. I don't think that's a huge problem since it can be entertaining still, but I don't want to try and pretend it's a lie. The best part of these games for me was leveling heroes and learning their cool skills which were pretty fun to use. Generally over the top and some of them pretty unique! Still, you made me want to play DW8 now lol sometimes I miss cleaning hordes with some big/weird weapon just because!
@@IottiPH I think simple can be a fair descriptor without calling something mindless. The games are very engaging despite their simplicity. I tend to turn something off if it's truly mindless. Appreciate you watching all the same tho!
@@theSHELFables I get it sounds offensive, but I understand their point. Like, I love playing these with their simplicity and I know what I'm getting at when I boot any game of the series. As an example, I find the Souls series pretty simple in their gameplay, but it's not mindless button mashing. Still, I had much more fun playing Warrior series than any Souls game lol What I see from the reviewers complaining is that playing one game feels like you've played most. If you're not a fan of this type of game, one is enough because of how little they change. When people that like the series play them, they enjoy the little bits of change that comes with each new game exactly because the game stays the same, but we get new stuff to look into.
@@IottiPH yep. Thats the iterative aspect. I will say these reviewers are people and their opinions aren't a monolith but it is odd that "being the same" is enough to make Warriors games bad or mediocre while Ubisoft games and CoD can consistently get good reviews every release. It doesn't exactly feel consistent. So we're clear though: the section with the reviews was more about my personal journey getting into these games and why it took me so long to try one. If anything, it's more a cautionary tale of ignoring your own potential interest in something to take the word of "experts" at face value and how that can result in you missing out. I hope that makes sense.
@@theSHELFables Oh yeah. You should always try it yourself any game if it sparks any kind of interest! I only follow reviews from people I know have simmilar tastes to me and even then I take it with a grain of salt. My experience with a game will be totally different than yours! One thing that makes reviews as bad as they seem is trying to keep scores. Reviews should be about what you noticed when you tried the product, not trying for a score/rank since they mean nothing.
Dw8 complete is peak gameplay for the series. Dw origins is out now and it really is something but not what dynasty warriors fans wanted. Don't get me wrong it is a great game just not what made the series great.
@@vague1995 thanks for watching! XL on steam is what I played in this video. It includes the base game and the XL content. 82 characters, 6 campaigns, ambition and the challenge mode. If you have the option, PS4 has nicer visuals and switch includes all the DLC weapons and stages.
I did pla them all from DW2 all the way to DW9. I love them all, and I love the game! Thanks for sharing your thoughts without being too negative, as all the negative surrounding the game is getting my nerve. This should be a space, I mean video games, for us to have fun, and enjoy them in the way we want and enjoy the games we want as well. I'm glad you seem to be onboard with such ideas. I would love to hear your thoughts on DW6 though. Some people say it is not good, and some say it is the best, for me it is my fav and the number 1 pick. I would recommend the PS2 version though, not the PC version, as funny as this might seem, the PS2 version is the better version of the game, even better than the xbox 360 and PS3 version as well. I would have subbed if you were a DW channel only, but hey, I gave you a like!
4 and 5 (empires and XL) all run great on PCSX2. It's such a damn shame they aren't officially sold in a modern anthology package because I'd pay BONKERS money for it.
Warriors games has a stigma on them all because of those "reviewers" from the 2000s XPlay especially had such a close minded view of games in general if you ask me
I always find that those dissing the hack n slash combat of DW dont actually have any idea how they would like Koei to change about it. The immense amount of character roster = its not ever going to be a Devil May Cry 3-5/soulcalibur. Call of Duty, if you played a single FPS, youve played all of them so legacy game reviewers of the past were just obnoxious wannabe gamers. Hell i still remember IGN not knowing how to play FFX and was healing against the magic atk Demi in the intro. The whole played one = youve played all of them can be said for every game in existence. Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, GoW, you name it. DW's bad rep was just a huge video game urinalist op to diss the game probably because Koei wasnt paying them money to promote the game. DW2-DW5 are seen with nostalgia lenses. Theyre more retro than modern by today's standards and no one is going to run to a store to buy it off the shelf. Out of all of those, DW4 was the best but I still remembwr how much I hated the same looking maps for each stage. The field assets in DW4 was pretty bad or it could be that I played it so much the maps got stale after a while. Also, the enjoyment of DW depends solely on the player. Every youtube gamer posting DW content always busts out the same attack chain so of course youre gonna be bored going for the same atk chain. Aint no way a DW player gonna be pulling some high level Dante/Vergil/Nero type gameplay if DW had a combat mechanic like DMC. In fact, id argue the DW gamers would be crying up a river for sucking at the game now. I should look into doing my own video game channel for fun and upload footage of gameplay for DW too. Im not the best gamer like those no damage gamers but I know how to make a game like DW look fun and feel fun.
This review fills me with so much joy!😊 8 is so underrated in my opinion. Koei obviously put a lot of effort and content into it, just for everyone to bitch and say it's not 7. Obviously it will feel repetitive if you sit on your ass in one sitting thinking you can beat the game, you're supposed to take your time and just enjoy yourself. Working my way to uploading some 8 gameplay so people can see the full experience!
@@abstr4cted496 What lists are you looking at? I don't know anyone who puts it above 4, 5, and even 3. It's not a bad game, but it doesn't deserve to be in the top 3 of lists.
@@sarkaztik3228 it's usually at the top of recommendations for new players and also the xl version has just a large amount of content so more bang for your buck.
You're telling people that the way people should play DW8... is the way that people play every single game of the series...? 8 Objectively lacks the content of past games, you can't argue that away by telling people to play the game how they already play it. A lot of people dislike 8 for legitimate reasons. I don't dislike the game, but it is by far on the weaker end of the stick and it's flaws are pretty clear. At least it's above 6. All of the games aside from 6 are great, but 7 and 8 really changed a lot of things for the worse and took a lot of soul out of the series. Allowing characters to use any weapon was a massive mistake as well as allowing weapons of any kind to drop while you're battling. If I'm using a specific character, I want specifically that character's EX weapon to drop. Character's EX weapons should be the only weapon drops they get (except in the secondary game modes perhaps). You should have to play a character and upgrade to the weapon you want to use on a different character before being able to transfer to a different character-- if they really want to keep this system and make it make sense. The fact that the best way to get the weapon you want is to just buy them in the shop is a pretty garbage system that is neither fun, exciting, nor interesting. There's zero sense of accomplishment there-- which drives many fans of the series to keep going. On top of that, the 5th and 6th weapons are WORSE than a proper 4th weapon due to the game's design which is insanity. Been playing for months and keep putting it down after an hour because there aren't any meaningful goals to work toward. Near-maxing out characters felt good in past games (well, pre 6) because they were needed in that state to get their final weapons. In 8 (and even 7), you just do it to do it and play harder difficulties because the Normal is so damn easy and you can get . Alternate modes of play, like Empires and XL were also great and provided a ton of gameplay in past games. In 8, it just lacks the aim and goals to be set. They're still there, of course, but they're presented in a much weaker manner than pre-DW6 games. I still have plenty of fun with the game, but pretending that that other people's critical views of the game aren't legit because of your personal bias is silly.
@@XxDruidmancerxX 7 is also solid and some people even prefer it for the storytelling. Imo the combat isn't as good as 8 but 7 is still a good time. Hope you have fun!
I've been a longtime fan of the series, since DW3 came out, and all i hard in the press was always that they were garbage, meanwhile i immesely enjoyed every entry, more than 20 years enjoying every musou game they released. Always follow your criteria, the press is garbage, if i payed attention to what reviewers said i wouldn't have played so much cool games.
DW8XLDE is the definitely a top 5 hack & slash on the switch library. And I got it for $20 on the E-Shop, what a steal. I loved it so much ended up getting Hyrule Warrior and Age of Calamity too. I would say the Ninja Gaiden collection deserved a higher spot, but they went with a lame vita port instead of porting the objectively superior PS3 versions. (can't say it was because of switch hardware either because even the steam release got shafted by the lame port). I keep hearing about how amazing DW7 Empires is, I wish they would bring that one to the switch so badly.
Recently bought 8 on the pc after taking a long break from the series. Personally not super impressed feels like a ps2 game. DW 6 is probably my favorite and the most innovative/modern in the series
@@k1llkyle463 I didn't enjoy 6 much when I tried it and "feels like a PS2 game" is usually a compliment when I say it. Just shows how different we can be. Appreciate you watching!
If you think 6 is the best... I'm curious to your metrics on what "innovative" and "modern" are. The Renbu system was abysmal and dumbed down an already pretty simple combat system to the nth degree, they removed characters--even mainstays since the first game--for literally zero reason. This in turn removed many styles of play which is a further dumbing down of the series. 6 is also the first game to start cloning movesets, which was the worst thing to happen to the entire series. There's nothing in 6 that I can defend other than it looked... slightly nice?

Nowadays I have DW8XL on my switch which I still happily sit and play.. 9 I couldn't even play.

@@mattlockwood6089 I've played most of them at this point, yeah. I definitely plan on doing more Musou videos in the future. Thanks for watching!

I was really used to how 7 did things so getting this massive pile of repeat weapons early on and trying to engage with the loot system kind of put me off early on. I should try this game out again. Also i don't really know how much I like the 3 point system I think it's kind of odd

Remember guys, do not pursue lu bu 😂
Still, I had much more fun playing Warrior series than any Souls game lol
What I see from the reviewers complaining is that playing one game feels like you've played most.
@@IottiPH I agree!
Even the PSP version of dynasty warriors is good. It's a good series.
Dw4,7, 8 and Xtreme Legends were the best on Ps2,3 and 4
Dw8 complete is peak gameplay for the series. Dw origins is out now and it really is something but not what dynasty warriors fans wanted. Don't get me wrong it is a great game just not what made the series great.

@@LVL5esper you should definitely make your own channel!
@@dragonempresskxm thank you for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it!
How is 8 underrated? It's always at the top of lists.
Made me buy 7 (8 was WAY more expensive, even on sale lol).
@@XxDruidmancerxX 7 is also solid and some people even prefer it for the storytelling. Imo the combat isn't as good as 8 but 7 is still a good time. Hope you have fun!
@@theSHELFables 8's combat was not different from 7, so I don't see how it can be better. 8 just had slightly better graphics that's about it.
