- 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the death of C.S. Lewis, now widely regarded as one of the most important religious voices of the twentieth century. In this lecture Dr Alister McGrath reflects on the continuing significance of Lewis for contemporary Christianity, and the challenges that face his biographers.

I used to long to be an intellectual. 😉 UNFORTUNATELY my family was very quiet, we stuck with the basics, and never were into having debates and discussions. So I've always been the kind of person who struggled (and generally failed miserably) to see the Forest for the Trees! Luckily, GOD has blessed me with a certain gift for writing, in particular poetry. Anyway, I do love C.S.LEWIS,. But once I became an official ENGLISH MAJOR, ;) I tried to read him with a certain distance and critical eye, which would last for about a minute at most!!! But then I always get totally drawn in to the story, and that's it. So much for critical distance!!! Anyway, Thank God for CS LEWIS! And thank you to Alister and all those involved here. 😀 GOD BLESS YOU!

Just found LICC thru looking for CS videos. Thank you and will explore other teaching on your site on Utube. Lewis was one of 3 writers that formed my earlie desire for turning my life to Christ. (A child if God in the US.)

amazing person. discovered this chap watching his debate with the now late Christopher Hitchins. He set me on a journey to see how a lot of what I had taken as true from Dawkins etc as true ... well ... not true, at least much of what they say about the bible. could listen to him all day

It was not Lewis that led me to Christ, but rather Christ that led me to Lewis. I had been a believer in that "Something" from a very early age; but I did not know what that something was.
I had the great misfortune of reading Mark Twain's “Letters from the Earth” at the age of twelve or so. And as might be expected from a twelve year old mind, began to question the existence of God. The idea of there not being a God bothered me greatly, but I did not know why.
I told my mother about my new position on the matter, the fact that I no longer believed in God, and she simply replied: “You will,” and that was the end of our discussion.
Now, we had a rather large family library from where I had found Twain's little discourse in the first place. I would spend hours staring at each of the book titles in an attempt to “decode” them. There's were titles such as “The Problem With Advertising” from my father's MBA program and I really, really wanted to know what the problem was but had no idea what advertising was. I tried to read a few chapters just see if I could understand the problem but never discovered what adverting was or where the “problem” lay. I suffer from Asperger's Syndrome (now categorized as High Functioning Autism). And for me, reading is a supreme struggle. But Twain's work in “Letters” was, for better or for worse, something I could grasp; albeit very slowly, and along with MAD Magazine and Archie comic strips, “Letters” helped me develop my reading skills.
But something just didn't feel right in the “Letters” aphotic rhetoric. Something was “Off” - way off.
Then I soon happened upon a little book titled “The Great Divorce” and thought I would give it a look. It was my first exposure to Lewis. It is a simple book, but I struggled with Lewis's cadence. But I knew that there was something beautiful being presented in “The Great Divorce” that could wash away the ideas ingrained in “Letters.”
I read and reread each book and measured one against the other. The scale favored “Divorce” by a nearly imperceptible “Unit;” but that Unit in itself is beyond measure.
Over the years, since the first readings of the these two diametrically opposed books, I have become a devoted pupil of Lewis, as well as the other great Christian writers, and my Faith in God the Father, Christ His only begotten Son and the Holy Ghost prevails.
I can thank Twain for helping me learn to read and I,again, I can thank Twain, more recently, for influencing me to “pick up the pen.” It was from reading Twain's short “Political Economy” a few years back - one of the funniest pieces I've ever read - that I began to write.
I can thank Lewis for removing Twain's aphotic Words in “Letters” from my soul.

As a man, Jesus Christ died as SERVANT of THE LORD.

[Here in Jeremiah, he's a branch from David, a king, and he
will be called THE LORD TSIDKENU - God's name and Righteous]
John 1:1-4 below...

All things were made by him; and without him was not any
thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was
the light of men."
and John 1:10, and 14 below...
"He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the

I think his accent is lovely. He was born in and grew up in Ireland so his accent has evidently refined over the years.

I was very surprised to hear this guy is WOKE. He says Lewis doesn't treat women well.
Lewis said of his christian belief that it was not intellectual but emotional and faith based, not logical. I know because I just watched an amazing video where he talks about his life. Obviously intelegent, well spoken, a natural entertainer and most interesting but his faith, however strong was first just that, faith. The bible is terrible history, inconsistent morality but as literature is up there with the other classics and religious texts and that was Lewis a man of letters.

But i belive in god and the engels he has. Im here representing Nature, the stars, the watchers, the witches, the engels and devils. The mayas and aliens i call creatures. For magic i saw i magic i want to see again. The codes on the wall. The images in the licht. I miss it all. That is what we should do for animals of all kind. Buld for them so we might see them as gods exactly like us. For they rule in Nature like we rule in Hell.
