In 2015, aged 47 an English businessman gave up everything and travelled Asia to find true happiness. Now a Buddhist Monk, living a simple life in Thailand, India and Sri Lanka, he shares the continuing story.

Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020, Thailand and now Sri Lanka. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult sons. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Van life and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023 and now Sri Lanka.

I am very grateful for this video. I often need help in returning to a virtuous way of life. Could you help me/us understand what can assist in letting go of attachments to comfort, health, and physical well-being-not in an extreme way, but in a manner where we are not so driven by the body and its well-being? Because I also have a weakness for fried chicken, beer, and dancing ladies.

I just want to say that I know that you either alleready have nirvana, or will likely be getting it very soon. It's a little bit like Avengers - Infinity War and End Game. Maybe when you get tired, you watch those movies. I like them😊 Besides, its spiritual practise. Good viewing.

may i ask if there's actually a ledger/ database of whom are arahants?
who decides/ agrees that one has just become an arahant/ is an arahant?
is this list available to the public?
is it a wellguarded list, very private?
its super problematic, you see, non-arahants CANNOT SEE who's an arahant, so its a catch22.
also, who records these supposed arahants?
like, do these forest and mountain arahants actually COME BACK to the monasteries and big towns and cities, after their X years of cultivation/ aka meditations in remote areas?
why? for what purpose?
im still filled with quite a bit of doubt, and fear - why wont any arahant just show something, like show up in a dream and just have a quick simple chat for example, so that it will strengthen my resolve to cultivate and practice? i mean, that would be even barely a sneeze, to the likes of mogallana and sariputta, etc. so why dont they do that?
it seems so frigging unfair - in the tipitaka and jataka, many many many people whom just simply GAZE upon Gautama OR his disciples, get immediately entranced.
is it because im still a negatively karmically heavy person, thats why i dont have such luck?
We cannot stop a ripple, by touching it.
Let it go, without clinging and attachment.
Now, observe the ripple as it stops on its own.
If you meet a True Arahant, you transcend.
If you do not meet a True Arahant, you transcend.
Hence, the answer is your heart, not on others.

the reason why youre getting ads of sexy ladies or fried chicken or steak, is simply because youtube has identified you as being of a certain demographic - probably something like "normal everyday average joe aged X to X, so he probably is attracted to ladies, fried chicken and/or steak"
