I was a SWO from 1976 to 1980. Even on deployments, we hardly ever fired our missiles, torpedoes, and guns (USS Hoel DDG-13). Between sailor evaluations, my collateral duty as the ship's legal officer, ship assist visits, inspections, and other paperwork, I was drowning in all of the administrative requirements. I never felt like I was a surface warfare officer. In reality, I was a surface administrative officer. If you want to be a warrior, join the Marines.

i went thru OCS in Newport in 1989. Is it true that SWOS school was closed mid 1990s?
what replaced it?
As a SWO in training… the training for SWO’s needs to be rehauled completely.
