Starline is my favorite villain of the franchise, hands down. He's legitimately *smart,* he plans ahead, he spots weaknesses in his own and Eggman's plans and prepares accordingly, he gambits and nearly wins all the time. If it wasn't for his fcked-up crush on Eggman and his own hubris, he would've won, and that's scary. He's a very perverted man, too, and I know it's not just me who reads that scene of him interrogating Belle and his treatment of Surge and Kit as something... utterly depraved. Not shown because of age restrictions, but implied. Him playfully touching a child in metal restraints and repeatedly violating Kit and Surge's minds brings to mind dr. Bumby from "Alice: Madness Returns". Even in death, he prevails. Even after he's gone for good, the impact he'd left on Kit and Surge is beyond fixing, he's broken these children's minds for good. Starline is a conniving, intelligent, scheming man, and as much as I hated him, I also loved to hate him and wanted to see more, because as long as he's on scene, shit's gonna be real.
Love how Sonic is casually perched on the back of Lanolin's chair, and she seems to be the only one noticing an active biohazard hanging out above her head.
For some reason it didn't even phase me the first time I read it, but seeing mimic just pull a fucking knife out in a Sonic comic made me choke on my drink a little
Mimic wanted his name erased from Eggman’s database because he was worried that the doctor would hunt him down for failing in his mission before he was apprehended by Tangle and Whisper.
On the note of kitsunami’s personality, that’s kind of the point. Him and surge are dark reflections of the heroes… if tails never went through the character development he went through from classic sonic era to fighting Eggman in adventure, he’d be the exact same. Surge is just sonic but without understanding what it means to be a good person (being a lab experiment and all, she lacks that experience).
It is. Starline is a reference to the infamous Wechnia glitch from knuckles chaotix. As a platypus he’s a monotreme like echidnas and the name that shows up for the glitch character in game is a line of asterisks, or a Star line.
ALPHA TRIONS BEARD IT IS WTF?! then again, if you think about it, IDW is also known for publishing transformers comics so it's most likely an easter egg
I think the reason why Mimic's information being deleted from the EggNet was important is because of the fact the Eggman Empire is 99.99% machines. Those robots probably all pool their data in the EggNet, so any information deleted from there would be removed from them. Thus, only Eggman himself would know about and be looking for Mimic, which he doesn't seem to be doing too actively, and thus probably wouldn't notice the deleted information anytime soon. It gives Mimic a lot of time with Eggman's forces off his back.
starline was a great villain! really enjoyed having him around and getting literally crushed by debris after being metaphorically (and slightly physically) crushed by eggman was just a fantastic ending for him. i do kind of want to see him in the comic again, but man i also don't want that death undone or subverted, so surge's hallucinations will have to do don't take my word for it, but i have heard that the guitar-shaped prison originates from sonic underground.
I do love how Eggman and Starline portray eachother, and how it seems like Starline is more prepared and smarter, but the ending shows the full truth, that Eggman was always the better doctor, and Starline’s ego was just tricking him into thinking he’s better. Eggman has a big ego, but he knows that the best plan always has a backup from experience, and any plan without a backup plan is a bad plan, despite how perfect its creator thinks it is. And their final battle showed this off perfectly, while Starline got all tools he needed, he had to work off of instinct, since everyone he worked with betrayed him and forced him to improvise a win (even his two lackeys, Surge and Kit just working with him for now, considering the fact they perfectly know his plans). Eggman fully expected a possible take over, so when Starline did, he got out of there before Starline could take him and after getting into his Eggbot from Heroes, he already won, knowing he would get Starline to destroy his own ultimate weapon. Starline however was forced to immediately fight Eggman in his mech, caught off guard, Eggman got away and still had control over a mech, and even after taking a different mech for himself, he lost it, using his power gauntlet to finally “win”, but destroying it in the process. Which was exactly Eggman’s plan, and after that, he didn’t even need any technology to beat Starlight, considering his googles protected him from mind control. And he was able to beat Starlight personally. Eggman had a backup plan, while Starlight was running on improvisation since he expected to already win, so when the win went to Eggman, there really is not surprise to how it happened.
I think you glossed over how badly Eggman had Starline beat in their final encounter. Eggman was in full control the whole time. As we saw Eggman had access to every old mech he had used ever including the egg dragoon, a much superior model than the egg emperor that he chose instead. So why did Eggman choose the egg emperor, instead of a more modern, superior model. It’s because the egg emperor was the mech destroyed by Team Sonic in sonic heroes using the team blast that the tricore blast is based on. Eggman knew that if he used the egg emperor, Starline would feel the need to use tricore blast in his obsession with Eggman’s history and completely drain the tricore
Tails' weird head house is just more proof that Eggman and Metal Sonic are just the alternate reality bad guy versions of Sonic and Tails. Tails and Eggman even have the same hair color, orange.
I love Doctor Starline alot. Honestly they my favorite sonic villian after eggman/Dr Ivo Robotnik himself. You see the calm, careful, intelligent self loving an idol to soon seeing the flaws of that idol, before throwing you away for being possible competition making you go crazy. I really love how IDW done transformers and sonic so far, I hope it keeps going!
The Starline logo actually refers to the glitch in Knuckle’s Chaotix, the weird glitchy palette, that can fly like tails! And the star line, well, that’s the character name in the game when you’re selecting your player character and partner character.
Dr.Starline was my favorite in the comic I love his design, voice, and that he admires Eggman but in the end he met his demise. A decent number of people say Dr.Starline is more evil than Eggman no he isn't he will never surpass Eggman in evil all he did was bring him back and try to kill Sonic and Silver. Afterwards he free Zavok, Mimic, Rough, and Tumble and attempt to destroy innocent lives just to get away with his captives Rouge and Tails he kidnap Surge and Kit turn them into cyborgs to use for his master plan. Eggman did everything Starline did like kidnapping Cream, Vanilla, and Animals and trying to use them as batteries for his robots he always tries to kill the heroes and at one point he blow half the moon. There are so many Sonic villains worst than Dr.Starline such as Black Doom, Infinite, Zavok (Debatable), Erazor Djinn (Sonic and the Secret Rings, Mephiles, Dr.Eggman, and The End (Sonic Frontiers).
much as Surge is most likely an expy of archie's scourge the hedgehog, Starline is likely an expy of finitevus and snively. We have the ties to eggman and with that the duplictious backstabbing, and with finitevus we have the genuine intelligence and the portal powers. Starline's just more of a genius comapred to snively (having actualy skill in programming and inventing) and far less of a psychopath than Finitevus (and far less intimidating). Of course we have a dash of bizarre hero worship towards eggman to add some spice to him.
I don't know if starline is supposed to be a idiotic fanboy or an actually capable villain. Idw sonic is good to read casually and not take it too seriously, rather than seeing it as canon to the games, similar to frontiers taking a lot of liberties with the characters.
13:17 I looked it up. The blue one is Rough and the white one is Tumble. 13:50 I agree. They could either just call them “Cores” or call the red one “Strength” or something.
When you realize that Grimer from fleetway sonic the comic is the only Eggman/Robotnik Lackey that didn't die or put in animal capsule(in the sonic comics at least) Speaking of i wonder if you going to make a video about STC character, since you talked about archie and idw it's time to talk about Dr. Zachary
32:25 he's Shinji Ikari as a Sonic OC. Depressed, codependant, terrified of being left alone, and even has a berserk mode where his eyes start glowing. I like him. He isn't my top IDW character (that would probably be Surge), but he's in my top 5.
A few thing not brought up here; Starline's subterfuge in _Bad Guys_ fails miserably. Eggman immediately knows that Sonic wouldn't delete the security footage, and Tails wouldn't do such a sloppy job of it. Likewise, Surge and Kitsunami had every intention of betraying and killing Starline even if his plan had worked. In other words, Starline was never as smart as he told himself, and his "master plan" was doomed to fail from the get-go.
so for the prison things, the only thing that comes to mind is the sonic underground series where sonic and his siblings (the only time he has sibling to my rather limited knowledge) play music as a rebel group against robotnik in a similar style to the satAM series; and in that series sonic plays a guitar. So while it could be a giant coincidence: if this is indeed a reference to sonic underground; it could also be a something of a hint to the readers that the important prisoners (to both the story and the overall canon) that are within the prison presented, are deep underground tl;dr: sonic underground reference showcases that important prisoners are indeed underground
Kit is possibly based on a 4th selection in S3&K where the game has to hastily grab any assets which uses knuckles sprites, sonic icon color, pallete, except the end title it called the glitched 4th character tails. Like “Tails has passed act 1”
No, it's based on a similar, but slightly rarer glitch in S3&K that gives Tails Sonic's palette. Ian Flynn apparently triggered it by accident while playing back in the day.
17:37 after a while I realized why there are stars in front of Starline's logo. It's because there are STARs in a LINE, it's supposed to be a play on his name 😂
I may have some facts muddled, but I believe Starline is a retooling of a glitched appearance of Knuckles from Knuckles' Chaotix. The character in that game from some stage select menus is referred to as "**********" which looks like a line of stars...like a starline. Surge while having similarities to Scourge from the Archie books, is also based of a glitch reskin of Sonic from Sonic 2. Surge having a look similar to the Ashura glitch.
12:00 I did guess Heroes, actually, for exactly that reason. I couldn't think of a single damn reference it could have been making to the sonic games I know anything about, so I picked one I didn't know shit about.
Dr starlines name, and his logo being stars, is a reference to a glitch that appeared on knuckles chaotix where you had a white and silver knuckles. Like surge is a reference to ashura who is a glitch in sonic 2 where you get sonic to be green and black. ( I always assumed that and scourge were inspiration) And kit is a glitch of tails where he is blue in sonic 3 and knuckles. I'm like 89% sure anyway
27:52 For anyone who hasn't seen it, there is this seen but with Julian Robotnik (Satam Robotnik's) voice and I like to believe that the voice we hear now is a cover for how intimidating Robotnik can be.
I do love that Eggman acknowledges that killing Sonic is easy af. Because it is, it always has been. Drown him, burn him, toss him into space, blow him up. But Eggman has never wanted to kill Sonic. The plan was to beat him. It's just if Sonic loses, he dies. Think about it, why make gambling themeparks? Hell, Eggman HAS beaten Sonic before. When he beat him, he locked him away. Ladies and gents, killing Sonic has NEVER been hard, but killing him in a way that he saw it coming but still died? That's pretty damned hard.

Adding to the "Starline is based on Wechnia" idea, I've heard the game will generate a line of stars/asterisks instead of a name for the character if you go to one of the screens that show names (I forget which one it is, but I think it's in the debug mode), hence why his name is "Starline" and he has the line of stars as his emblem/insignia.
Very interesting!
*Dr. Starline got a little too big for his britches* 😂. Although he was kinda right about Eggman, his own EGO was his downfall
Never underestimate Eggman, that's the lesson here lol
@@FantasticSamtastic hes evil but. He always finds a way to stay in the game. And eorking on machines. Blueprints. Schenatics. Plotting. Sure he has his mechanical army. But getting many of this stuff goung. That hasnto be done by hand
If my info is correct, when choosing a core for mimic they struggled until i believe sega actually suggested the fly core but mimic would fly like if he was swimming in the air. (So short mimic flight is like an octpi swimming)
I like the idea of him "swimming" like an octopus
@@FantasticSamtasticman’s was ascending like an Angel
The Starline name is a reference to the glitch character from knuckles chaotix named wechina or **********(that's the actual name of the character)
I've learned something new!
Him and surge are dark reflections of the heroes…
if tails never went through the character development he went through from classic sonic era to fighting Eggman in adventure, he’d be the exact same.
Surge is just sonic but without understanding what it means to be a good person (being a lab experiment and all, she lacks that experience).
Could the 5 stars on the logo be representing a literal “Star line”?
Love it! Literally never put it together
It is. Starline is a reference to the infamous Wechnia glitch from knuckles chaotix. As a platypus he’s a monotreme like echidnas and the name that shows up for the glitch character in game is a line of asterisks, or a Star line.
20:06 is that the matrix of leadership In the background?!
ALPHA TRIONS BEARD IT IS WTF?! then again, if you think about it, IDW is also known for publishing transformers comics so it's most likely an easter egg
Yeah, since IDW still owned the rights to the Transformers comics at the time, before they lost the rights in 2018.
Man, I absolutely fell in love with Dr Starline seeing him for the first time. Such an interesting character.
17:38 it's a line of stars...
I'm a little dumb
I like that they were so petty, that they stole his ukelele strings for no real reason.
Nice vid, gonna finish drawing your sona soon
Can't wait!
starline was a great villain! really enjoyed having him around and getting literally crushed by debris after being metaphorically (and slightly physically) crushed by eggman was just a fantastic ending for him. i do kind of want to see him in the comic again, but man i also don't want that death undone or subverted, so surge's hallucinations will have to do
don't take my word for it, but i have heard that the guitar-shaped prison originates from sonic underground.
About the logo, it’s a line of stars…star line…starline. It’s clever
I'm a little slow lol
@@FantasticSamtastic I could make a sonic pun, but I won’t
@@FantasticSamtasticYOU'RE TOO SLOW!!
I wouldn’t be surprised if Starline makes a return down the line. It was also give a good emotional crux for Surge and Kit’s character arcs.
Starline was honestly a great character imo
20:06
Dowg is that the Matrix of LEADERSHIP!!!
Those two guitar shaped prisons may be a callback to Sonic Underground.
Starline was only hearing Sonic CD JP boss music… But then he heard the US music
Starline is a classic example of why INT and WIS are different stats.
I love Doctor Starline alot. Honestly they my favorite sonic villian after eggman/Dr Ivo Robotnik himself. You see the calm, careful, intelligent self loving an idol to soon seeing the flaws of that idol, before throwing you away for being possible competition making you go crazy.
I really love how IDW done transformers and sonic so far, I hope it keeps going!
the fact that eggman can basically kill someone onscreen in modern day sonic lore really proves we're so back
“How did you know the tricore had limited energy?”
eggman: Oh i know LOTS of things.... *images flash on his glasses* LOTS OF THINGS....
The Starline logo actually refers to the glitch in Knuckle’s Chaotix, the weird glitchy palette, that can fly like tails! And the star line, well, that’s the character name in the game when you’re selecting your player character and partner character.
I learn something new every day!
Imagine if starline comes back but he actually worked out a bit and did some thinking
Oh Egg-Emperor, one of the finest creation from Dr Eggman, even in defeat, the Emperor stands tall.
Eggman was cold af here 2:55
That is why Eggman is top dog of Sonic villains
I'm a little late to the party, and it's a great video, but Miror B's theme at like 9:40 had me going through flashbacks to 20 years ago
Now that Surge has been redeemed I’d say he’s completely gone may he rest in pieces!
Surge is non redeemed
Sorry pal, They confirmed Surge will go back to villainy for a more tragic character.
20:10 that is the Matrix of Leadership! Starline! You have something more powerful then the Master Emerald right there!
Frankly, I'd give Starline the 2003 Baxter Stockman treatment.
much as Surge is most likely an expy of archie's scourge the hedgehog, Starline is likely an expy of finitevus and snively.
17:40 it's because it's a star line
Rough is the small one, tumble is the big one
19:21 the orangutan is called Shagi, i think
20:07 starline has optimus prime matrix of leadership
I don't know if starline is supposed to be a idiotic fanboy or an actually capable villain. Idw sonic is good to read casually and not take it too seriously, rather than seeing it as canon to the games, similar to frontiers taking a lot of liberties with the characters.
Those 5 stars are in a line. It's a line of stars. A star line. I just got it.
Never heard of this peep till day. Looks like he walked out of the Ducktales timeline..... Now I need to go watch Ducktales again.... 🤣
Lol I love this. Ducktales was unironically underrated!
@@FantasticSamtastic woo hoo!! 🦆😂

I looked it up.
The blue one is Rough and the white one is Tumble.
13:50
I agree.
They could either just call them “Cores” or call the red one “Strength” or something.
When you realize that Grimer from fleetway sonic the comic is the only Eggman/Robotnik Lackey that didn't die or put in animal capsule(in the sonic comics at least)
Speaking of i wonder if you going to make a video about STC character, since you talked about archie and idw it's time to talk about Dr. Zachary
32:25 he's Shinji Ikari as a Sonic OC. Depressed, codependant, terrified of being left alone, and even has a berserk mode where his eyes start glowing.
I like him. He isn't my top IDW character (that would probably be Surge), but he's in my top 5.
I could see you being one of those guys trying to outrun an avalanche trying to snowboard or skis
starline is literally the starscream of sonic
Doctor starline is such a interesting antagonist in my opinion
His logo is literally a line of stars. Never thought about of that
A few thing not brought up here;
Starline's subterfuge in _Bad Guys_ fails miserably.
So while it could be a giant coincidence: if this is indeed a reference to sonic underground; it could also be a something of a hint to the readers that the important prisoners (to both the story and the overall canon) that are within the prison presented, are deep underground
tl;dr: sonic underground reference showcases that important prisoners are indeed underground
Cant wait for the surge video as imo she's like the best thing to come out of idw by far
Moral of the story. If you are backstabbing or hiding things from allies DON’T leave video evidence of why and how you are betraying them.
17:37 after a while I realized why there are stars in front of Starline's logo. It's because there are STARs in a LINE, it's supposed to be a play on his name 😂
I dont know if anyone has already mentioned this, but the guitar shaped prisons could be some kind of reference to Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash.
29:00 I forgot about this! last time I saw the comics was last year (because I'm waiting on issue 100 because I want to wait)
24:37 Holy… it wasn’t just a sonic battle thing…
I may have some facts muddled, but I believe Starline is a retooling of a glitched appearance of Knuckles from Knuckles' Chaotix. The character in that game from some stage select menus is referred to as "**********" which looks like a line of stars...like a starline.
Surge while having similarities to Scourge from the Archie books, is also based of a glitch reskin of Sonic from Sonic 2. Surge having a look similar to the Ashura glitch.
7:23-7:38 Oh that is so poetic.
For the logo, Starline, ( there's a line of stars. ), The hair is Starline himself, while the line of stars represents his name.
To be fair, its a 3 foot tall platypus.
Tossing Starline around is like tossing a 6 or 7 year old.
0:17
Agent stone seems to be doing pretty well.
( I always assumed that and scourge were inspiration)
And kit is a glitch of tails where he is blue in sonic 3 and knuckles.
I'm like 89% sure anyway
27:52 For anyone who hasn't seen it, there is this seen but with Julian Robotnik (Satam Robotnik's) voice and I like to believe that the voice we hear now is a cover for how intimidating Robotnik can be.
The reason why there’s stars in Starline logo is because his name is Starline, so he or a line of stars on his logo
17:49 A line of stars.
Starline logo is 5 stars meaning he's the best, and the 5 stars being in a line. Star-line.
I love that you used music from Spectrobes!
I think you're the first person to ever notice that!
