Bunnie is, without question, my favorite of the archie characters. Her marriage to antoine was adorable, and she was probably the best melee fighter that didn't really have a special ability. Most of her skills were purely combat and brute force based, whereas Sonic was essentially a living bullet.

i'd argue that the dream story wasn't entirely pointless. it establishes bunnie's fear of her robot parts causing her to hurt other people early on, and makes later moments in the series, namely her being controlled by ADAM's nanites and later the iron queen, hit harder because this is something we KNOW she's afraid of
it also serves as a reminder that her cyborg state isn't her natural state and that she isn't a huge fan of it, which has more storytelling potential than if she jsur didn't care

Honestly with the Metal Virus Arc from IDW, Bunnie could work easily. Antoine basically doesn't need _any_ explanation other than maybe his soldier uniform, which could easily be explained by him being part of the Restoration or even just a local militia(because the Sonic World clearly needs a _lot_ of protection). Just introduce them as a couple and bam.(I say introduce them as a couple because Sega seems adamant on not changing the relationship status of characters. If they were seperate at introduction, they're seperate for life.)

Great vid! Bunnie was always my favorite of the SatAM/Archie Sonic cast. I'm almost certain that the Rabbot/"Rabbeux" thing was just a weird retcon to tie more into her Southern origins. IIRC, Louisiana in particular has a lot of people with French ancestry.

This video was really nice! It’s great to see a video for Bunnie that goes really in depth with her history + have good editing. I will ask if using the darker scans instead of the brighter Archive scans was an intentional choice?
So, my exposure to Sonic was largely due to SatAM, and I think because of that, I really bonded to Bunnie. I thought she was an underutilized but awesome character, and I liked the implicit crush she had on Sonic that I read into her constant use of the term "Sugah-hog" and body language. Honestly, I would take a fleshed out Bunnie over so many of the game and IDW characters, and I'd genuinely get behind a serious attempt to show Bunnie and Sonic as a couple; they've got a nice "speed and strength" dynamic. I've even been tempted to write some fanfiction on that line, but that requires writing Sonic fanfiction, and that's a toxic hellhole. And I say this as somebody experienced in writing Ranma 1/2 fanfiction.
I always liked how in Archie it was implied that she did like Sonic, but she didn't want to get in Sally's way. Besides, she eventually married Antoine.

As much as I love Tails being Sonic's kid brother/sidekick, Seeing him have other familial bonds, especially a sweet big sister like Bunnie, is really nice and super wholesome. Really wish we could've seen her again in IDW, had they not shifted canon. Especially given the Metal Virus arc.
“Just happened to have” the mind preserver thing was the inciting incident of the story and the roboticizer was the same bot on the spot you mentioned.
They don't matter because the story which they were part of ended. They were good characters, but you can't exactly have Princess Sally without a Kingdom of Acorn. You might be able to fudge Bunnie from the whole Metal Virus thing. But like, even if you did manage to squeeze them in, they'd have to have a very different dynamic with Sonic to the point I feel most people would be !@#$ed off anyways. And they would likely be around for like one game or comic arc and that would be it.
I think the whole confederacy references are fine just given the fact the early issues of archie were extremely goofy and they would of course play up the southern cliche as much as they could. Back then such references were not considered unusual or off limits, whether one would agree with Da Cause or not. To be honest, I miss the campy tone of that era of the comics, its a lot of tonal whiplash when you get to the melodrama side of things with the Penders era.
Remember that show Mad on Cartoon Network, based on the magazine of the same name? There was an episode where Bunnie Rabbot kicked the ass of Chuck Norris.
I think you missed a few good stories for Bunny, such as Rouge's second appearance, and the Sonic Universe story based around Tails' Adventure, which is Bunny and Antoine's honeymoon. Also, big portion of the middle of the Archie run, male Mobians were always kinda off model, while female Mobians were human proportioned with animal heads, which speaks volumes about the penciller they had on staff at the time...
Funny you should mention Antoine's fake out death via exploding Metal Sonic being replaced by a coma. Initial drafts for "Remember the Fallen" was him really dying, but was saved by fan outcry. The title wasn't supposed to an exaggeration.
I think what would’ve happened with Antoine before the reboot is Bunnie would go to her uncle to get roboticized and get Antoine roboticized to save his life. But there would be a dark price to pay: them now being members of the legion and having to serve under Eggman. And Antoine could be used to keep Bunnie in line, since his brain would get roboticized to bring him back, what’s stopping someone from high jacking his brain and controlling him?
they probably didn't kill off antoine because 1) worry about going too dark for a kid's comic and/or 2) potentially to have him reawaken and help save Bunnie from what is implied to be joining her uncle's branch of the dark egg legion to get cyborg parts so she can no longer feel weak
I'm a little disappointed you didn't bring up one of my favorite stories. In one of the Super Special issues, there's a story where her body starts rejecting her robot parts, and she's given several options on how to deal with it. She's really scared and doesn't know what to do, until Antoine comes in her hospital room and consoles her, saying he'll stay by her side no matter what she decides. It is a very emotional story and more evidence on why her and Antoine are the perfect couple. EDIT: Okay, I looked it up. The story is called Upgrade. It was originally published in Sonic Super Special #11, and later reprinted in Sonic Selects Trade Paperback volume 5.

This is completely unrelated, but I find the post-reboot Archie Sonic art to be the best in the series, I find it as the best of every Sonic artstyle, maybe if the angular style of Sonic Battle art and the shading of the Sonic Riders art would be second place for me, if it existed.
Bunnie's biology is a mystery to me. How is she able to pick up a sewer grate her size without her arm just being ripped off or injuring her back? Then they changed Bunnie's lower half. At first it was just her legs that were mechanical. All of the sudden it was from her waist to her toes. So, how does she use the bathroom?
I'd say the neuro-overrider would have been plot convenient if it hadn't been introduced quite some time ago during that early issue where Sally got robotisized. In that issue it fell off leading to Sally being the enemy for an issue because back then most everything was episodic and had to be wrapped up in a single issue. The robotisizer they used on Knuckles here I believe was the same one used on Bunnie (and what is plot convenient is that they can't use it to derobitisize her for some arbitrary reasons?) Sorry to be picky, I read these issues obsessively as a 90's kid. Love the video.❤
Please, fanfics can look much better than that! All the while someone was paid to draw this comic... I loved seeing the different drawing styles of the Archie Comics, but this one is a good reminder of how uncanny and off-putting some styles were.
I know it's a completely different group in charge of the Sonic comics nowadays, but I'd love for the Archie characters to be included in the IDW stories at some point 😊
First same writers that worked on the Archie comics are working on the IdE comics. Second, that falls in SEGA decision as they hold the rights to the Freedom Fighters for better or worse. And they don’t seem to like them so they’re not coming back or if they did they would fundamentally have to change their backstories to fit with the main Sonic world.

Sally has the baggage of being a Princess of a Kingdom that has not been established to exist. Bunnie could theoretically have it so she was infected by a strain of Metal Virus that adapted to be not-spreading but also irreversible or something. The real issue is making all four of them work at once, making them fit without robbing them of their group dynamic, and not just tossing them aside immediately but also still respecting everything IDW introduced(for example, IDW has the Restoration.).

Antoine maybe. I do imagine Bunnie Rabbot fitting in perfect after the whole Sonic Forces and Metal Virus Arc and one I like to see the most. It's right there. Sally is the most trickiest regarding why she didn't help the rest of the world even if she's a Princess. Helping her Kingdom is an easy solution. However, SEGA seems to have a hate boner for the Archie Comic characters (and extension the Satam show). I wonder if it stems to Ken Pender as he did complicate after the whole Sonic Chronicles fiasco. They probably want to clean their hands with any involvement with Archie and Penders. I don't know. Maybe they don't want Sally in as Amy Rose is Sonic's "girlfriend" but now it seems like SEGA is being distance with romance now. Honestly, aside from Bunnie... I find it weird how you didn't mention how Bunnie eventually needed to have her original roboticized limbs replaced, due to her body eventually rejecting her roboticized limbs. She had 3 options: A) Disconnect her robotic limbs B ) Try for deroboticization, which she might not have survived C) Upgrade her robotic limbs, which would "cure" her illness, at the cost of never being able to return to a fully organic form. All of this happened in Sonic Super Special #11, with a story that happens between Sonic the Hedgehog Issue #77 & #78. (I'm typing this before finishing the video.)
From my understanding, Antoine WAS meant to die after being blown up by Metal Sonic. However fan response made them just put him in a coma. It really shows how fan feelings changed about the guy. From people hating him in the show so badly that they asked for his death, to people loving him so much in the comics that they asked for him to live.

So, my exposure to Sonic was largely due to SatAM, and I think because of that, I really bonded to Bunnie. I thought she was an underutilized but awesome character, and I liked the implicit crush she had on Sonic that I read into her constant use of the term "Sugah-hog" and body language. Honestly, I would take a fleshed out Bunnie over so many of the game and IDW characters, and I'd genuinely get behind a serious attempt to show Bunnie and Sonic as a couple; they've got a nice "speed and strength" dynamic. I've even been tempted to write some fanfiction on that line, but that requires writing Sonic fanfiction, and that's a toxic hellhole. And I say this as somebody experienced in writing Ranma 1/2 fanfiction.
I always liked how in Archie it was implied that she did like Sonic, but she didn't want to get in Sally's way. Besides, she eventually married Antoine.
So basically the Sonic/Knuckles and Sonic/Shadow dynamic (at least sort of) but…. A girl lol

The roboticizer that the Freedom Fighters had was the same one that was used on Bunnie and the device that allowed Knuckles to keep his free-will was something invented by Rotor earlier.

As much as I love Tails being Sonic's kid brother/sidekick, Seeing him have other familial bonds, especially a sweet big sister like Bunnie, is really nice and super wholesome. Really wish we could've seen her again in IDW, had they not shifted canon. Especially given the Metal Virus arc.

They were good characters, but you can't exactly have Princess Sally without a Kingdom of Acorn. You might be able to fudge Bunnie from the whole Metal Virus thing.
But like, even if you did manage to squeeze them in, they'd have to have a very different dynamic with Sonic to the point I feel most people would be !@#$ed off anyways. And they would likely be around for like one game or comic arc and that would be it.
I think the whole confederacy references are fine just given the fact the early issues of archie were extremely goofy and they would of course play up the southern cliche as much as they could. Back then such references were not considered unusual or off limits, whether one would agree with Da Cause or not. To be honest, I miss the campy tone of that era of the comics, its a lot of tonal whiplash when you get to the melodrama side of things with the Penders era.
Remember that show Mad on Cartoon Network, based on the magazine of the same name? There was an episode where Bunnie Rabbot kicked the ass of Chuck Norris.
I think you missed a few good stories for Bunny, such as Rouge's second appearance, and the Sonic Universe story based around Tails' Adventure, which is Bunny and Antoine's honeymoon.
Also, big portion of the middle of the Archie run, male Mobians were always kinda off model, while female Mobians were human proportioned with animal heads, which speaks volumes about the penciller they had on staff at the time...
Funny you should mention Antoine's fake out death via exploding Metal Sonic being replaced by a coma. Initial drafts for "Remember the Fallen" was him really dying, but was saved by fan outcry. The title wasn't supposed to an exaggeration.

I think what would’ve happened with Antoine before the reboot is Bunnie would go to her uncle to get roboticized and get Antoine roboticized to save his life. But there would be a dark price to pay: them now being members of the legion and having to serve under Eggman. And Antoine could be used to keep Bunnie in line, since his brain would get roboticized to bring him back, what’s stopping someone from high jacking his brain and controlling him?
Dang, I never thought of that as an outcome and it sounds sooooo freaking cool! I really wish we got to see that play out
To be fair the older comics were made during a time where (Although the civil war was over for years) many southerners were VERY into the confederacy
they probably didn't kill off antoine because 1) worry about going too dark for a kid's comic and/or 2) potentially to have him reawaken and help save Bunnie from what is implied to be joining her uncle's branch of the dark egg legion to get cyborg parts so she can no longer feel weak
I'm a little disappointed you didn't bring up one of my favorite stories. In one of the Super Special issues, there's a story where her body starts rejecting her robot parts, and she's given several options on how to deal with it. She's really scared and doesn't know what to do, until Antoine comes in her hospital room and consoles her, saying he'll stay by her side no matter what she decides. It is a very emotional story and more evidence on why her and Antoine are the perfect couple.
EDIT: Okay, I looked it up. The story is called Upgrade. It was originally published in Sonic Super Special #11, and later reprinted in Sonic Selects Trade Paperback volume 5.

Bunnie has always been a great character due to her unique position being half robot in a series where robot = bad. It's a shame she was left behind in the Archie comics.

Aww you left out the issue were she comes down with an illness were her robotic limbs stop working with her organic body and gets an upgrade from Nate that enables her to function normally again.
Which ultimately is why she could never go full flesh again. You have to have the parts you were robotisized with.

This is completely unrelated, but I find the post-reboot Archie Sonic art to be the best in the series, I find it as the best of every Sonic artstyle, maybe if the angular style of Sonic Battle art and the shading of the Sonic Riders art would be second place for me, if it existed.
There should be a game where fang is roboticized into a cyborg robot like this bunny is one of the best sonic characters ever by the way

Bunnie's biology is a mystery to me. How is she able to pick up a sewer grate her size without her arm just being ripped off or injuring her back?
Then they changed Bunnie's lower half. At first it was just her legs that were mechanical. All of the sudden it was from her waist to her toes. So, how does she use the bathroom?
I'd say the neuro-overrider would have been plot convenient if it hadn't been introduced quite some time ago during that early issue where Sally got robotisized. In that issue it fell off leading to Sally being the enemy for an issue because back then most everything was episodic and had to be wrapped up in a single issue. The robotisizer they used on Knuckles here I believe was the same one used on Bunnie (and what is plot convenient is that they can't use it to derobitisize her for some arbitrary reasons?)

Please, fanfics can look much better than that! All the while someone was paid to draw this comic... I loved seeing the different drawing styles of the Archie Comics, but this one is a good reminder of how uncanny and off-putting some styles were.
I know it's a completely different group in charge of the Sonic comics nowadays, but I'd love for the Archie characters to be included in the IDW stories at some point 😊
First same writers that worked on the Archie comics are working on the IdE comics.
Second, that falls in SEGA decision as they hold the rights to the Freedom Fighters for better or worse. And they don’t seem to like them so they’re not coming back or if they did they would fundamentally have to change their backstories to fit with the main Sonic world.

Sally has the baggage of being a Princess of a Kingdom that has not been established to exist. Bunnie could theoretically have it so she was infected by a strain of Metal Virus that adapted to be not-spreading but also irreversible or something.
The real issue is making all four of them work at once, making them fit without robbing them of their group dynamic, and not just tossing them aside immediately but also still respecting everything IDW introduced(for example, IDW has the Restoration.).

I find it weird how you didn't mention how Bunnie eventually needed to have her original roboticized limbs replaced, due to her body eventually rejecting her roboticized limbs. She had 3 options:
A) Disconnect her robotic limbs
B ) Try for deroboticization, which she might not have survived
C) Upgrade her robotic limbs, which would "cure" her illness, at the cost of never being able to return to a fully organic form.
All of this happened in Sonic Super Special #11, with a story that happens between Sonic the Hedgehog Issue #77 & #78.

From my understanding, Antoine WAS meant to die after being blown up by Metal Sonic. However fan response made them just put him in a coma.
It really shows how fan feelings changed about the guy. From people hating him in the show so badly that they asked for his death, to people loving him so much in the comics that they asked for him to live.
25 years of character development & competent writing does wonders.

I still don't like him to this day. I remember disliking Anotine in the cartoon and early comic books because he doesn't look like the type of character to hang out with Sonic and stop Eggman. The dude was pathetic and I don't know why they kept him on the team. I'm aware he gets better later on but people only like this character because he's paired up with Bunnie, take that away and people will forget about him
