This is pure magic. The fact that it's been said this was ad libbed is deserving of incredible praise. Kevin Smith may not be the best director in the eyes of many, however his unconventional style allows his ego to be put aside and go "I have two legends here, we can transcend this whole movie by letting them go at it"
You’re joking right? This scene is pure garbage. I guess it’s entertaining in a “so bad it’s good” way, but this scene completely ruins the suspense of the first half of the movie
@@mattjazzfan2288 Nope. Heck the comments. Others get it too. This was done purposely and is status quo for a Kevin Smith film. This was entirely improvised on the spot. Add in the door closing and opening itself which lends plenty of suspense. Not sure how it could take the piss out of the movies considering the scenes that precede and follow it....
@@XMetalChefX he sounds like he's got a stick up his ass and probably should stick to straight faced horror movies that don't take chances with tone or genre conventions.
@@XMetalChefX The movie is a comedy, it's not a suspenseful horror film. The only reason it's scary is because of the unsettling implications of getting turned into a walrus.
Two American Actors playing an Anglo and a French Canadian respectfully. Both scatterbrained and trying to out Canadian each other. Kevin Smith is awesome.
People think this scene is pointless, but I don't think so. People have to understand that, Tusk in all intents and purposes, is meant to be two things: 1. A parody of horror films. 2. Ridiculous in everything. While I love horror films, even the best ones often adhere to some cliches. Houses in the middle of nowhere, friendly strangers that have a sinister motive. In this case, they were making fun of three cliches at once. The first is the obvious. Police being useless. Depp's character, is probably one of the most ridiculous examples of a French Canadian Police Officer. Overtly Polite, talking in long sentences and oblivious to any wrongdoing. The man pretty much shook hands with the obvious suspect, listened to his story no matter how ridiculous his story and his voice sounded and walked off like nothing happened. Pretty much every Police Officer incompetence you could think to put in a horror movie all slapped into one. The second Cliche it tackles is the Monster Hunter's Lament. This is a rare cliche, but it does exist even in the best of horror films. Movies like Dracula imply that hunters like Van Helsing have faced Dracula or monsters like him in the past and often sometimes have the hunter extra depressed, because they had the chance to catch/kill the monster and said monster slips through his fingers. The whole flashback started with Guy talking about how he came so close to catching the man, but missed it. The ridiculous part is he treats talking about it like he was on an epic chase, but we see it's just two guys talking. Then you have the last cliche. The Killer being too obvious that they get off Scott free. Howard Howe does not talk like that all the time. Most of the time even in his most insane, he's often talking in a more sophisticated tone. The only time this type of accent slipped when he was around Wallace was when he was singing "Itsy bitsy spider." Yet here he full on talks like that, is obviously insane, ranting about spiders and humans. It's easy to interpret that rather than capture Depp as his next tusk victim, he wanted to shoo him away so more cops don't show up.
When he broke Character and got passionate about his statement about human beings is actually what got planted inside Depp's head and got him suspicious about him
I JUST heard about this film as I'm not a TV or movie person, but just finished watching it and both Parks and Depp were superb. I don't care who downgraded this movie. It had me engaged and entertained all the way through.
“I am sorry to inform you but I am not that man that the lady was sending” by far the funniest thing I’ve seen in forever. Johnny Depps character always makes me laugh
That's the kind of scene one dreams of seeing. Two great actors chewing up the screen together. As this is Michael Parks last film, I wonder what his reaction wasto get to work with someone of Johnny's caliber. And vice versa.
This movie was weird but I really liked it, especially Guy Lapointe. He's extremely goofy but also has a very serious side. Michael Parks as Howard Howe is also excellent. How he goes from childlike to deranged serial killer, is fascinating.
This scene is hilarious....what an amazing peice of acting by two masters of their craft.....the way michael parks suddenly became menacing with the line" I think the real savage animals are the human beings," and depps reaction ...phenomenal
This seen really is amazingly real. There are conversations that slowly go downhill to where you are looking for an excuse to leave. An old man who can barely string a n enunciated sentence who WILL NOT BREAK EYE CONTACT. God, no wonder Guy dismissed him so fast. Howard knew he dominated the conversation and energy flow, so he knew he would not go inside... where Gregory Gumtree could have been...still alive
Look. I enjoyed this movie way more than Human Centipede because of scenes like this. At times it's funny, quirky, ridiculous, creepy, and even kind of stupid, but purposely so. That ending... Lol.
