  • Sometimes a cool looking ship is absolutely useless, both in a simulation and possibly in real life too. Do these exquisite Star Trek ships created by players even fly? Let's find out.

Glad I made the list as a usable ship. I am indeed a fan of Voyager, though that really was slightly more of an art piece. It was built off the frame of my earlier Prometheus, which is a little bit more usable ship. I must admit though, Star Trek ships are definitely more of a challenge to make useful than Star Wars ships, particularly in the shuttle bay area: a Star Destroyer was far easier to make compatible with larger small ships. Thanks for featuring my work on your channel!

I’d be willing to bet that among the most functional ships would be the cardassian keldon and hideki classes. The keldon explicitly due to its taller deck configuration compared to the galor to fit supplemental internals to help the ship meet component demands. And the long tails of cardassian ships in general would provide good places for thruster torque. The hideki class is also significantly smaller, being a halfway point between a corvette and a shuttle and mostly used for short range patrol it wouldn’t be too much bigger than a federation shuttle craft.
You may be able to make a federation sovereign class work. But that along with the keldon potentially come back around to “who needs that much space for single player”
A romulan bird of prey could also be good but it has less powerful mounting points for thruster torque and a very open frame without much hidden space for internals

Since I have a solid understanding of main engine and RCS dynamics from KSP, albeit no experience in Emperyan Galactic
( I still have to resist the impulse to type Empyrrian - any TA fans out there?)
I have to think that the Bird of Prey, the OST Romulan Warbird, and the Miranda or Nebula class starships would be good candidates for effective combinations of speed, maneuverability, and firepower. The larger and bulkier starships were designed around canon Star Trek technology, so they probably don't translate easily into a game engine.

I've never actually played that game but from what I am just learned from this one video probably an N-X class, the Neo constitution class and maybe the Enterprise E due to their larger nacelles compared to their frames and they're flat but spacious shape might work in galactic survival.

To possible answer your question at 2:20 + as to why some vessles have such massively long corridor networks. That'd be mainly coming down to machinery and fuel. At least with ships like the Nostromo you had large parts of her interior dedicated to fuel, cooling liquids, atmospheric gases, water and the processors. Opposed to Starwars they back then considered the sheer amount of fuel guzzling those engines would do the less sience fiction they are ontop of the month/years the ships would spend operation without refueling. And well all that stuff needs to go somewhere, preferably while balancing out the overall mass distribution on the vessle.
Yea, nuclear reactors are a thing i know. But they, with everything else still need temperature control and you likely still need fuel to push out of your engines to push the ship forward. And even with some super efficient engines that adds up if you are underway for years.
But that just as a side tangent, amma done ranting.
Depends on the tech level really.
If you go Stargate you can of course ignore all the above since engines are purely electric and the power source being the sice of a coffeemachine. Speaking of, time for coffee.

I feel like a number of trek ships in theory could be functional, just the issue is you have to be both a great builder and a major trek fan to pull it off. I feel bad for anyone who tried to give the galaxy class the saucer separation. Also cant wait for the star destroyer video. In Empyrion I feel like the smaller scale ships would be more functions, the miranda, Oberth, Ambassador similar sized ships and smaller could probably decently work, though I feel like most of the frigate and corvette sized trek ships would likely work the best on average, though I think it'd be cool to see a norway or Akira in that game.

Not sure if this was already mentioned, I did try to look through the comments.... the reason why SO many ships had way more CPU usage than CPU is because they are likely Reforged Eden ships run in a Vanilla creative mode. RE calculates CPU and thrust way differently than Vanilla. You will find that RE has way higher CPU than Vanilla, and there are ways in RE to upgrade even way more CPU than what a base ship is allowed. RE uses way more thrusters than needed, and way more RCS or RTS modules than Vanilla. Likewise, some ship components probably did not show up at all, like the JRandall Bird of Prey. RE has many ship components that are not in Vanilla, and when you spawn an RE ship into Vanilla, those ship parts are missing.
So alas, it is very likely many of the ships you viewed that were not functional are in fact functional, but in RE. As a Vanilla player, I have spent many hours converting RE ships back to Vanilla. It is a pain. lol. Hope this helps, and if you already knew this, please disregard. Thank you for the video though, I appreciated it.

I don't see myself playing Empyrion Galactic; however, the idea of a large enough ship with NPC crew could make an effective 'operational replica' of a starship, and I wonder how far the game mechanics would let the complexity and synergy go...
