IMO - SRV was the greatest blues guitarist of all time or at least that I’ve ever heard. It’s not just that by dedicating his life to playing guitar and doing concert up to the moment of his passing, it was how he played with all his humble heart and without ever learning how to read music. Magical. He seemed so very humble and down to earth. My first husband adored SRV in the 80’s. SRV was his favorite musician and he brought me to a Jazz Festival and we watched him play, along with BB King in attendance. I was in my 20’s. Sadly, my first spouse passed two years after SRV, at 34 in a car accident. Every time I hear SRV it reminds me of a wonderful era and great times. His song " Life Without You" is an example of this. He breaks a string- changes guitar without missing a beast. Later on in the song adjusts amps for the sound he wants- is mostly for feedback purposes. Tunes guitar mid performance again, and breaks a tooth. The greatest performance I've ever witnessed. The guy was an absolute machine and arguably the greatest guitarist that may have ever walked the planet. SRV... may he rest in peace.

Stevie was the only player I've seen who could really play behind his back. Most guys if the put the guitar behind their head or back have a couple of riffs down pat. Once they roll through those they flip the guitar around front again. Stevie could throw it behind him and play the dickens out of it better than most guys can play it in front.

1983 and David Bowie releases his HUGELY worldwide successful 'Let's Dance' album, featuring the then unsigned Stevie Ray Vaughan on lead guitar (as short as the solos are). Stevie Ray said many times, that every solo he played on that album was him seeing how much Albert King he could put into modern pop music.
Albert King and Jimi Hendrix were two of his greatest influences. In the 80s, I saw him play behind his head, switch guitars because he broke a string, play with his teeth all without missing a note.
I was fortunate to witness SRV live every chance I got!! Reason: 1st time I saw him, the word was out, how good this player is! Unaware that I just watched the impossible! Stevie and Albert were great friends. Stevie openly acknowledged that Albert was one of his inspirations and they performed together a few times. Their performance together of "Tin Pan Alley" is a must see.

SRV loved Albert King and Albert was his mentor. SRV died tragically in a helicopter crash after his Alpine Valley concert In Wisconsin. He was a treasure and his music 🎶 eternal. He has a beautiful tune where he doesn’t sing called “Riviera Paradise.” It’s so calming and yes, he is playing behind his back. He sounds like two people playing at the same time in “Texas Flood.” He loved Jimi Hendrix and when he sings “Voodoo Chile”, he adds his own amazing ability to the magic from Jimi

My absolute all time favorite ❤️❤️❤️. And yes!!! There are plenty more videos. Always watch SRV live for amor amazing mind boggling guitar amazement. And I always suggest Life Without You live from The Capitol Theater is great!!! If you watch closely towards the end, you will see him do a guitar trick, then spit lol and then look off stage and mouth “lost my tooth”…”gone”!!! And he continues to look around the stage while finishing the song. It may have only been a cap that came loose or something like that😂. But I think it crazy amazing.

Fantastic reaction to SRV! He is my personal goat for the guitar and blues music in general. He has sooo many great songs. Him and Albert King also played together, they had a close friendship too. Please check out more SRV though. He was such a humble, good soul on top of being a phenomenal musician. Fun fact: he couldn't read music. Another fun fact: he played the thickest strings on his guitar to get fat sound. He died in 1990 in a helicopter crash unfortunately. Put Jeff Healy on your Itinerary. If you (spoiler) want to be blown away by a blind man playing the blues with a rocking jazz flavor. Stevie Ray found Jeff apparently and helped him get a bit more exposure. There is a Jeff Healy and Stevie Ray video Called "Look at little sister."
Stevie was the only player I've seen who could really play behind his back. Most guys if the put the guitar behind their head or back have a couple of riffs down pat. Once they roll through those they flip the guitar around front again. Stevie could throw it behind him and play the dickens out of it better than most guys can play it in front.
It's getting harder and harder to find someone who really appreciates electric blues guitar who hasn't heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Right?
Albert King was one of SRV's main mentors. He took Stevie under his wing and guided his guitar and blues education and journey

Try watching his 'sound check' video. Just Stevie Ray warming up. Actually humbling to most guitar players on the planet.
Stevie is the most under rated guitarist ever. Look up when he met Eric Clapton for the first time. If you can't find it let me know, but go down that rabbit hole. Dude was a legend.

I saw Stevie Ray in the early 80’s at the Arkansas State Fair- he played in the cattle barn.
I grew up on Albert King, I'll have to check out that one next. Albert King's Born Under a Bad Sign was one of the first albums I ever bought. I had the pleasure of seeing him live many times.

1983 and David Bowie releases his HUGELY worldwide successful 'Let's Dance' album, featuring the then unsigned Stevie Ray Vaughan on lead guitar (as short as the solos are). Stevie Ray said many times, that every solo he played on that album was him seeing how much Albert King he could put into modern pop music.
