I think this solo has been criminally overlooked. It is so majestic , soulful and other -worldly.

The solo after the break is just beautiful example of Jimmy letting his soul speak. One of my top 5 faves of his. Also one of the loneliest songs around.

Of the handful of 12/8 blues numbers Zeppelin did, this one has the most wistful and melancholy guitar work. It’s really haunting with that huge reverb and at that time there were actual rooms built specifically to achieve that sound. You’re the only guy that would react to a deep track like this one so thank you

Thanks so much for reviewing "Tea For One." It's such an overlooked song but it has such attitude. Jimmy's solo is one for the ages. I don't know of another band who could pull off a song like this. And it's not one where you can just listen casually and appreciate it. You have to do what you did here; focus on it you'll hear so much that's great about Zeppelin. Well done!

Robert Plant was in a wheelchair throughout the recording of this album due to a car accident and I understand Page did all the overdubs for the whole album in one night
Page was a studio Wizard.
Plant & Janis were friends, she tried giving him tips to protect his vocals, I can’t right off hand remember what else. Even though she was young too, she kind of gave him motherly advice, I heard this in an interview.
Shit dude I ain’t seen anybody ever do “Tea For One”! Good choice! Granted you can never do wrong with Zeppelin

Robert’s voice is so gorgeous and evocative on this song. He could sing the blues SO well. He had the gift....he just feels it....it’s been the wellspring of his passion for music from the beginning. When Plant and Page again collaborated and toured together in 1995, this song was part of the set....and they did it so well.
Damn, I'm a Zeppelin fan but I've always known I haven't heard their entire catalog... I was a small child when they stopped putting out albums. But I'm happily shocked to find a reactor introducing me to a Zeppelin track I've never even heard of!

Page is my all-time favorite, the reason I picked up a guitar in 1972.
The solo is the one Carlos Santana called "the greatest guitar solo ever put on record."
As you may have figured out. Back then we didn’t have short attention spans. We could, and did, listen for hours.
We also didn't have all the gadgets and apps that call out for our attention.
Thanks for that observation. It's true - I remember listening to albums - entire albums - for hours and hours. Over & over again. Those were the days...
From this, the most underrated of all Zeppelin albums, next on your list should be "Nobody's Fault but Mine." A true banger with the baddest harmonica solo. After that, another great song that I haven't seen anyone react to is "For Your Life." You'll thank me after.
I don't feel it's underrated, to a true fan it's amazing. Is there such a thing when it comes to Zep? Everything is a masterpiece in it's own right.
This is my favorite zep song ever. It grabbed me like no other. When I was a pup listening to Zep, an older sister of mine told me they were trash and would not be around for long . . . . Led Zeppelin was and is a classic of classics.
Even back when I was a teenager in the 70's and Blues based Rock was one of the backbones of Classic Rock, this type of tune done the way Zeppelin did was uncommon and different to the discerning ear. Zeppelin just had a "magic" that no one else had.

I am so glad you picked this song. It is so beautiful and the guitar solo is so atmospheric. It’s just a stunning song. So underrated in their portfolio
The entire Presence album (except for maybe Achilles Last Stand) is one giant "Deep Cut" meaning these songs hardly ever got played on the radio. Robert and his family had been in a car accident while on vacation in Rhodes where Robert sustained a broken leg and other injuries while his wife had a fractured skull as well as other injuries. Due to UK tax laws, the members of LZ had to stay out of the UK as tax exiles for a time so Robert couldn't convalesce with his family but instead was in Malibu drinking "tea for one". The rest of the band eventually showed up and instead of the tour they were scheduled for that had to be cancelled, they wrote Presence. It is a very guitar heavy, intense and emotional album; one that not many people understood. I consider this song to be "exquisitely beautiful suffering".
Robert met Janice in 1969 in San Francisco area on Zeppelins first tour of the states. He was a bit star struck...he admired her passionate singing, and I think he borrowed her use of stuttering on some songs.....unless both he and Janice borrowed it from an old blues player. In any case, he described her “mothering” him with advice on how to care for his voice.. tinctures and such. But he did say that the orange juice was mostly vodka. Poor Janice....she had so many demons, and didn’t survive long enough to overcome them.

Me either this album is 50/50 for me but I still like it better than In Through The Out Door.

Good catch on the Janice Joplin connection! In addition to Plant having met her in ‘69 as noted in a prior comment, he has said many times that he was indeed inspired by her style and drew on it as one of his many influences. And Tea for One is among the most underrated Zep tracks, because folks like to compare it unfavorably with Since I’ve Been Loving You, and because it is a song that’s about feel and mood rather than high drama. I think it’s a fantastic track. Thanks for reacting to it!
This is a song that continually grows on me.Back when it was released I first threw it aside as "just another derivative blues song". I was dead wrong. It's a bona-fide rare and quite unique gem.

Page counts this solo on Tea for One among his top three. Achilles and Stairway being the others. It is special. Regal blues.

This is their sort of late-period answer to 'Since I've been loving you' but in the aftermath of a lot of troubles. I think it's more honest, actually, and you can kind of hear that in Plant's vocal - away from home and having to record it whilst stuck in a wheelchair.

I think Whole Lotta Love was released as a single by the record company.

But they agreed in the end reluctantly..they also agreed to the release of good times bad times/communication breakdown off the first lp..but generally they didn't like the idea of singles
Sure they did.. I have the "Immigrant Song" on 45.. For years you could only get "Hey Hey, What Can I Do" on the B- Side.. "Trampled Underfoot" is another one I have, and it hit the Billboard American Top 40 for a number of weeks.. I'm sure they had more.. probably "Fool In the Rain".

This song helped my friend Trey get into Hard rock as opposed to metal back in the nineties when we were hanging out when I was a teenager... When I 1st met him he said Led Zeppelin and anything involved with that was too soft he came around to my way of seeing things haha love you brother...

The reason why so many people suggest that you listen to an entire Pink Floyd album is that the entire album has a concept to it. Each song flows into the next to tell a more complete story than simply enjoying one song. Zeppelin has some cohesion, and I've certainly enjoyed listening the albums I have, but it's not on the same level. I'm not throwing shade here, Zeppelin is my favorite band, just saying that you can easily have a mix tape of Led Zeppelin, but with Pink Floyd you generally pick an album.

Simply the best ever, a musical phenomenon.
Here’s one for you. React to the movie, The Song Remains the Same. Filmed at Madison square garden in 1973. Zeppelin live. Also the movie has fantasy scenes which include. Song Remains/ Rain song, Robert Plant. Dazed and Confused, Jimmy Page( crazy bow solo) No Quarter, John Paul Jones. And of course Moby Dick, With John Bonham and a unbelievable drum solo also shows him with a young Jason Bonham at home.This movie is a must see for any Zep fan. To this day I still rock out and relive to this movie concert.You will be blown away

I concur.....get TSRTS I’ve seen it over 100 yessss 100 times!!!! Zep has always been and always will be my fave!!! Nobody compares. I met Robert Plant in 1982 what a class act!!!! Who ever said don’t meet your heroes they will only let you down....never met Robert Plant!!!

Blues played a totally different way than ever before
Really dude buy a couple Allman Brothers records compared to most of their other records this doesnt impress much the beginning of their decline followed by their last album which was pretty bad I remember I was in High School and we were all waiting for In Through The Out Door then it came out and everyone was kinda bummed.
How Many More Times is a must do if you’re reacting to Led Zeppelin. It’s overlooked by most reactors. Just a killer track. Also, Battle of Evermore is another overlooked song that is really good.

A totally electric guitar album, listening to this now makes me think that, even if it meant reduced sales, Zeppelin's future in the 1980s (had it had one) would have been in stripping back to a straightforward garage blues band sound. That would have some credibility at a lower level and I think they would have weathered the changing fashions into the 1990s. But then they were never very good with sticking to one sound.
Page said that the plans for the next album after In Through The Outdoor were to feature a guitar heavy sound akin to Presence. Alas it never happened. However I think LZ were too ambitious and too famous ( Presence still went to No.1) to settle for any one type of sound for any two successive albums. I still feel that either Page or Bonham would've succumbed to their demons somewhere down the 80s.

I think Robert Plant embodies a lot of the qualities that Janice Joplin had. That soulful, raspy power that just goes to your core. Keep getting the Led out! Check out Nobody’s Fault but Mine off this album. One of my faves.
Oh wow, you haven't done How Many More Times Live yet! Do the Danmark radio version first, from 1969. You can see them in the early years of developing their incredible improvisational style.

This album is the least played of any of them Led Zeppelin works. But it has held up well. It was ahead of its time and the time to hear it is now. I remember when it hit No 1. And they only had 18 days to put it together because The Stones had booked the studio after them. Jimmy Page built his own studio because of that. I wish they could have done that studio album planned for the following year too.

If you dig blues rock check out The Blues Traveler Band. The lead singer is also the best blues harp player in the business. I suggest "Alone" as a good song to start with. Crystal Flame also highlights the skills of each member of the band.
