I see where you are coming from. But I think racism is a bad word for it. Maybe it’s more like a strong disdain based on history. We do have to remember this was their island, now they have “Hallies” coming in and running their show like they haven’t been doing it a long time before we came. That has to be hard on them and people don’t just forget their history, especially when they are big on culture. Respect goes both ways.
Crosby Steen, MSN, RN First people can not be illegal, they aren’t goods or products. We have to remember this country was indeed stolen. It wouldn’t be fair to treat immigrants poorly when we were once “immigrants”. It goes back to treating everyone with respect.
@@CrosbyTheNomadNurse you have to remember this though. You are an illegal immigrant in their eyes. You’re some white guy from the states who has the privilege to move and work, and live there. Please recognize that you are the immigrant here.
Mahalo for the video!! Born and raised on the island of Maui I like to hear what other people have to say about Hawai'i. Everything you said was just about right! It's annoying when people from the mainland act all high maka maka. Worst is when my patients are tourist and question my ability to care for them. Well anyways thanks for being humble!
You're Welcome. The Islands are a special place to me and having respect for them and the natives is really important to me. I mean the American did subjugate the natives for many years. It's all about respect and appreciation.
Great video . I’m a traveling Surgical Technician and I just completed a contract in Virginia. I always see jobs in Hawaii and your video helps so much. It’s definitely on my list of places to work. Mahalo🦋
Ahhh, memories of the Island. Lol. Nice of you to bring up "Haole." I only been called it once growing up there. However, it is certainly a great relaxing place to work and live!
You are soooo ADORABLE!!! RAMBLE ON!!!! I do have a question... Moving here and applying here ... I always had a great interview but never an offer. I think they really would rather give their positions to their locals. Also, tons of job contracts for sure---I only a little over a year experience and in outpatient clinic.... it is just hard
Racism towards whites? Hmmm. Maybe disdain thru history. Coming from a brown skinned filipino male nurse like me, I deal with racism almost on constant basis here on the mainland. Racism is something I wish on no one. Looking forward to doing travel nursing in hawaii soon.
Disdain based on the color of your skin is racism. Come on now. It doesn't matter what the color is. If someone sees you and the only reason they have to treat you badly is because of the color of your skin then it's racism. Point blank.
Really enjoyed your video. Could you possibly post how you choose ER nursing and what agencies you recommend. Really lovely video, thank you for the candid review 🌷💐🌹🎉🎊
Thank You! So I used American Mobile and I had a wonderful recruiter who pushed hard for getting me the assignments I wanted. She really did well on my behalf. As far as ER, it was always where I wanted to be so I really didn't think about going to other specialties. I just liked the pace and I stayed busy
Hey, I enjoyed very much your travel video. What not to like about Hawaii?! 🏝️🌋 I have few questions. So when you had this assignment, did you shipped out your car to Hawaii or decided to rent a car? Which hospital would you recommend to work for? How about housing? Through Airbnb or other resources?
So I actually rented a car because it was so much cheaper than shipping it twice, and since I was there only 3 months. I worked for Kohala Hospital In Kapauu and I loved it. But I don't know about the others
In my experience it comes off as rude to say "The States" , I know you don't mean it as rude but I got corrected a lot as a young kid there, so it's just easier for everyone to say the mainland.
Can't wait to get out there myself! I want to try travel nursing to hopefully get my foot in the door, in Hawaii for something permanent. Keep 'em coming man!
Hello! Hows the job market/demand for rn's and crna's in hawaii? I want to go, but i'm wondering how hard it eould be to find a job, since there aren't many hospitals there. Pls help
Thanks for all the helpful information. I want to try travel nursing and definitely would like to work in Hawaii. Which agency did you go through? Did you like it? And lastly, did you get your Hawaii RN license way before you landed there?
@@CrosbyTheNomadNurse Do you know if it's hard to get a permanent acute care nursing position on the islands? I am looking to permanently moving there after I graduate nursing school next year!
@@juliamatthews7287 It is hard at least from my experience. If you have acute experience already you are ahead of the game. I moved here with a BSN and outpatient clinic experience--getting a job was hard. STAY POSITIVE!!!!
I envy you so much dude, SO MUCH. It's freakin snowing here in Canada. I love this place too much so I'll have to put on a fake smile during it's horrible winters lol
It's not overwhelmingly bad, I just saw a few things I didn't like. I mean I feel anywhere you go and are different from the population it's gonna be a little weird. But for me it's all about being open and going with the flow
Great vid. Can a nurse travel one year on and one year off? Are PRN jobs or positions easy to find? Is it possible for travelers to live luxury saving up the money ?
Great video! This gave me a good idea, I lived there some when I was a kid. My mom would slap me if I said "the states" but thats just a personal preference thing, being part hawaiian say ing the states don't offend me but some older people it doz
Hawaii is not like the States you are a minority here" *Says the Caucasian* Did anyone hear that? Because last time I checked, Hawaii IS a state, so technically racism still occurs in every state all over the USA. Also, I apologize that you as a Caucasian individual felt the need to mention racism as one of Hawaii's Cons. I'm glad that you are able to notice how uncomfortable the experience may feel. Now, reflect on those situations and imagine how it must feel to be, your definition of a "minority" (meaning those who are not of the land/ not Caucasian) in America. Anyway, thanks for the information. My suggestion: Prepare a monologue script before you actually record, to double check that you won't accidently mention something that could possibly offend another person or in your case-- minorities in general. Regardless of it all, you seem very genuine and keep up the good work!!! Aloha.
Ok I don’t think you were being condescending. But nevertheless, I speak on issues that I have. I can’t speak to any other perspective. So yes I speak as a Caucasian. Now I e lived in South Korea, Turkey, and Japan. So I’m familiar with being a minority, and it doesn’t bother me. I accept it. I also speak from MY perspective, as for preparing a script, you can go ahead and make 300 videos for RUclips and then I will value your opinion on how to make videos. All my vids are unscripted and real, if you don’t like that perspective then feel free to NOT watch.
Does it really matter if one is minority’s? Like why is race so big in america!! Technically Caucasian is minority in Texas, California, new Mexico, Washington and I believe florida but some others but at the end of the day u wont really notice because people going to be diversity
I would say that the ER setting always presents a uniques challenge each and every time. All nursing presents challenges however with ER you just have no clue what's going to walk in.
Crosby Steen, MSN, RN I meant differences in how that ER is ran compared to others? I am on month two of orientation at my local ER and am just wondering if departments vary much.
Oh my bad! lol So it really isn't much different in ER's on a routine basis. The main difference is the level of trauma center or the volume of the ER. All protocols are pretty much the same. The ER i'm currently at is very slow compared to the other ones, but they still do a good job overall. They just don't have high enough volume at this ER to really see anything too crazy.
Would of liked this video more if it related to nursing more. Housing, transportation, pay, cost of living, working environment at Hawaii Hospitals. Especially since it’s titled “travel nurse Hawaii pros and cons. But nice to know the people are awesome.
Thanks for Watching!
