    Some QoL notes:
You can use Ctrl+Tab to move between modes, and if you switch into Pose Mode from Edit Mode you can then use Tab to automatically switch between the two.
When subdividing anything in Edit mode, like Bones, you can click on the Options menu in the lower left to increase the number of subdivisions to, say, 3 for each finger.
If you name a bone prior to subdividing or extruding it the children will automatically be labeled with the parent name.
If you select all bones on one side of your Armature in Edit mode and use Armature>Names>Autoname L/R Blender will automatically add .L and .R to the end of each bone name not on the 0-axis designated. You can then Symmetrize and everything will be copied over automatically.

Thank you so much for putting these tutorials out there. These are honestly the most informative videos on youtube regarding how to actually rig a character properly. I have no use for two minute tutorials that blow through concepts and leave you guessing. Thanks for actually taking the time to teach the "why's" behind the decisions you make. Keep up the great work!

Especially when re-calculating bone roll on the hands, it can be useful to isolate the bone with Shift+H, so none of the other bones get in the way as you see it from multiple angles. Then, Alt+H to bring everything back, and align the bone rolls of the fingers further down.

That was the best use of "whilst" I've heard in many years! You're offhand comments about what should be done, I've not heard about in many cases until this video, so whoops, this is important to know... You present more complex stuff than an intro tutorial, but are not so technical like Pierrick Picaut (a role model of mine currently) that makes my hair catch fire at random times...
