      My friend bought one. A new 1970. (Yes, I am 66 years old)...Two modifications were done to the car. 8 inch slicks,4.56 gears and he opened the exhaust. (not headers,just opened up)...Shifting the Turbo 400 at 6500 RPM, He ran 12.70 @ 112 MPH as lean as hell. The plugs came out white because he never jetted the 780 Holley that came from the factory.It was an amazing running car......

    Actually, the M21 is for a small block engine. The M22 is for the big block. Larger input shaft for the torque.

    • @michaelraddish7898

      Actually the m21 was standard with a 396 375 the m22 was an option. Been there done that

    Like the car, don't like the color or the engine. Also don't like the rear leaf suspension. I would like to buy that car new today with a 4.3 v6, 5speed manual, 4 link with adjustable coilovers 4 wheel disc brakes. In a greenish gold color. 1972 was the last year for it, they should have never stopped making that body style. My opinion one of the best looking cars ever made.
    Right up there in looks with the 67 Camaro and the 68-69 Malibu Chevelle. but If I were to choose a car for GM to re start mas production of selling as new, it would be that era of Nova.

  • @bruceh92
    @bruceh92 2 года назад

    Dream car indeed. But did it weigh more than the Camaro, or less? If it weighed more than the Yenko Camaro then the Yenko Camaro should outperform it. But I guess it's the fewer production numbers that has Nova valued higher.

    Had this exact set up only as a ‘70 model. I was 16 when I bought it in 1974. Loved that car....wish I still had it today. So if the car in the vid was worth $80-85k 15 years ago when this show originally aired on LMC, how much would it be worth today? Additionally, how much does one bring these days in good, all original, numbers matching, UN-restored condition??

    I owned a Black 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396/375 L78 with black interior and a bench seat in the front just like the Nova shown. I believe the 375 HP was under rated. Had a lot of factory options with that motor. Factory aluminum intake manifold, solid lifters, tuned exhaust, block totally different stamped hi Performance, 4 bolt main and the list goes on. I was young and had a lot of muscle cars and will never forget my Nova. Almost thought about putting that engine in my 1968 Corvette, but kept the small block in it. In a straight line my Nova was fast.

    • @thud9797
      @thud9797 3 года назад +1

      @ Bill L they rated the 65 Corvette at 425hp and was almost exactly the same, think only the exhaust manifolds were different.

    nice car. please put the correct headlight bezels on the car. Also, for a high dollar car like this, replace the china rear springs with the correct ones.

    • @wrzl1675
      @wrzl1675 5 лет назад +2

      kevin hartman I owned this exact car except for the color ( midnight blue) and bought it new in late 69 and my older brother had the 70 L78. Those headlight bezels are correct and the springs are also correct and nobody in China makes them. The rear subframe in those cars are straight from 67/68 Camaro’s so there would be no point in shopping overseas for them.

      no only are those the correct bezels , but all Novas squatted in the rear when you drove them off of the dealers lot . That's why they all had air shocks and/or longer then stock spring shackles .

  • @sterlingprice5963

    The guy narrating this video just doesn't know how to drive. Speaking from experience, these old Novas would hug a curvy road. I drove Novas exclusively for years on the twisty hilly curvy backroads of the Ozark Mountains. Great brakes and steering without power assistance. My engine of preference was the 307. Nobody could outdrive me on a mountain road in one of these babies.
    Thumbs down just because the narrator put down the drivability of these cool old Novas.

    • @69shovlhed89
      @69shovlhed89 4 года назад +1

      307? that was a junk motor. a 4 bolt main 350 with forged bottom end and good heads will make power like that L78, and not under-steer like that HEAVY 396 does. also the crap 14" tires on that car didn't help... it must have been a blast driving the Ozarks back in the day. you're a lucky man to have had that experience.

    • @sterlingprice5963
      @sterlingprice5963 4 года назад

      @@69shovlhed89 , Most old Novas came with either a 305, 307, or 6 cylinder. A few had 350s but I think you had to special order them. I never had a brand new one ... just used ones. The 307 wasn't too bad. Better than the 305. Yeah it was a blast back in the day roaring down the back roads. I'm getting to be an old dude anymore, and have lost my nerve. Drive very safe these days.
      😉

      @bobbrinkerhoff3592 Год назад +1

      you do realize that you're comparing a car built in Canada to U.S. built cars , there were some differences .Also 396 Novas used a different radiator support fan shroud and mounts than the small block Novas .
