  • In this video, I show you how to setup and use a Midea Cube Dehumidifier. This model is a 35 pint (4.25 gallon) but other models are available. One feature that is helpful is the Midea app. The app helps you control all of your Midea devices- with a quick tap, you can schedule the unit to turn on and off, change the fan speed, and much more.

Is yours still working? This thing seems to work a bit over a year just over the warranty period then quits, my experience and also many others on Home Depot. There are no parts and no service manual. worked great when it did, but not enough to take 300 dollars from me every year.

I have this dehumidifier ( not from amazon). I live in south Texas by the Gulf of Mexico tons of humidity all year long. This dehumidifier works so well, I keep it set at 55% and within 2 1/2 hours it is letting me know that it is time to empty out. You are going to love this unit.

I was in the market for a dehumidifier, and saw this video. I’d already watched your vids on your basement mods and enjoyed them so, based on you saying it was a good unit, I decided to go with this one. (A cheaper, non smart) model actually.
I plugged it in, and within an hour I’d got the bucket 1/4 full! I’ve added a hose and turned it to bucketless mode now. I’m already seeing a big difference on my humidistat!
Thanks for the heads up on this unit.

I bought the 50-pint version of this unit about 2 months ago. It is great a purchase, lowered my basement from about 65% to 50% in less than 2 days. The musty odor disappeared in less than a week. Best money I have spent in a long time. Directions could be a little better, but online help was excellent. I went to the big box store and bought a 20' hose with the same ID and OD as the short hose in the box. It lets me put the dehumidifier towards the middle of my basement and drain the water to the catch basin.

Purchase the one with the pull-out bucket in the front it would have brought you humility down in your basement in a matter of hours instead of days. I have two different models of the 50 pint and the cube is less efficient as the old school design can dry the paint on the walls.

Great video, thanks for the review. In the segment in the bathroom you mentioned not always remembering to let your exhaust fan run for a length of time. I replaced the switch to my exhaust fan with a timer switch that has run-time buttons for 5, 10, 15, 30, & 60 minutes (available at the big box stores). I just hit the switch before I get in the shower and the fan runs for the selected amount of time, then automatically shuts off. Easy diy project (would make a great RUclips short 😀).

I definitely would have bought this when I lived in my old state (Michigan) as the humidity was always very high. I mean the state was surrounded by lakes. But now I live in Wyoming and the average humidity is 17% and the only time it gets higher is when it rains and an hour or so after it stops it's basically back to less than 25%. So really no use for it. But boy I wish I this would have been available back when I did live in a high humidity area. Thank you for the information though! Love your channel and I trust your opinion!

Good informative video.. I bought the bigger Midea cube dehumidifier from Costco.. it was normally $239 but they had a $50 off for the 50 pint unit. It has wheels you can add which is helpful to me. It still is a little heavy for me. I’m a 5ft gal! I didn’t even know I needed a dehumidifier until I saw my sister use one. This one is in my basement, have only had it a few days but always amazed at how much water accumulates in the container below. I hope it lasts a long time! Thanks for the info.

Mine lasted 25mo of nearly continuous use, then iced up and now no longer dehumidifies. Clever design, I had the version with the pump, which worked well. When it worked it brought basement down from 75% to 45%. Pity it only lasted two years.

It works very well. It does make a room warm if on a lower setting (running more often). I could never get the app to work with the device though. I'm not upset, as the function of the dehumidifier was well worth the price paid for it. Edit: I use this in my basement as I use a few 3D printers and need to get the air less humid. It works very well. P.s. I hadn't even realized there were filters until this video lol. Just cleaned them out.

Great video. I just bought this unit a few weeks ago from my local Home Depot for my crawlspace that got a little water in it and is usually humid. This unit is amazing and works great. As you said, the phone app is awesome. I started using bucket mode to test it and it worked great. I now use bucketless mode. I also just started to use the schedule mode. I learned a couple things in your video I did not know. A couple years ago, I had this issue and tried a couple different units I bought online. They were garbage and I sent them back. This does a great job and I highly recommend it.
1 question: What do you recommend I keep the crawl space humidity at? I think the app showed 50 or 55%. ( I live in Michigan). Thanks again

This unit is re-branded under about 4 different names depending on where it is sold. Got the 50 unit size at Costco under the brand 'Danby'. It is still a highly rated unit and still has one of the top energy star ratings. The Wi-Fi feature is definitely something that swayed me to try it out, especially at the price point / sqft rating. unfortunately, my unit came with a broken tab that keeps it level in the bucket when in use. So I haven't been able to use it yet until I get my free replacement.

But when I go back to the App, it doesn't show that the water was emptied. It still says it will be full in 6hrs. Is there a way to refresh that? Or do I need to do something after emptying the tank for the app to be reflective that the tank was emptied?

For everyone wanting the answer. I found if you just let it sit over night, it resets. I have mine on a schedule to turn off at night. By morning it reads the correct water level.

Can you control multiple units at the same time, on the same account.

Only issue with the video is related to the old dehumidifier heating the space. This is unavoidable as the dehumidifier has evaporator and condenser coils which are cold and then hot. In the end, the air will be hotter than when it enters the dehumidifier. The positive, in a space like an unused basement, is hot air holds significantly more humidity and cuts costs to dehumidify air. In any case, Midea cannot escape physics and my assumption is the use of an inverter compressor so it is not full on and off (trying to confirm) reducing the use of the compressor.

On any store, if you filter by 1 star, you will see these cube models fail from freon leak within 1-2yr mark, around or after warranty. Is yours still running.
Further research of other brands show same issues. Some suggest the humidity corrode the thin copper pipes vwry fast then leak occurs. At which point dehumidifier starts freezing over due to low freon.
As well... every time i remove top unit, it spills water around the bucket. Seems to have a poorly placed drain. Your experience? Thanks!

I'm wondering why on the "1 2 3 4" levels for the amount of water to collect why they didn't just put the number of gallons for each level instead of "1 2 3 4".

In the beginning of video you mentioned your old one was loud. I'd be curious of the noise level of this unit v. your old unit. How much noise does this produce?

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair

Hey! It definitely is. At the end of the video, I use a decibel meter to show how it was quieter than my old unit.
