I’ve used this lens extensively on the R5 and on the R10. On both cameras is produces fairly good photographs for the money. It pairs well with the RF 1.4X converter and still retains reasonable IQ. The Nano USM focuses this lens quickly and accurately without the extender. With the extender it tends to be slower but liveable. I’ve used it for birds, animals, landscapes etc and rarely for aircraft and generally been happy with the results. It’s not RF 100-500mm quality in IQ but then it’s less than 1/4 the price. Do keep in mind it’s not weather sealed, doesn’t have a hood as standard (I bought the Canon one). Anyone wanting an in-depth review seek out Duade Paton a wildlife photographer in Australia or Wild Alaska they both have great reviews. Definitely a steal for the money.
You said you have the EF-S 55-250. I also have it and use it almost on a daily basis with my Canon M50ii and was considering replacing it with this RF 100-400 mainly because of it size and weight. What would the IQ be like vis-a-vis the EF-S 55-250? How would it compare in terms of IQ and reach? I plan on using it with my R6ii. Would that be a wise decision 🤔 Thanks
I bought the RF100-400 used a year ago and use it on all my daily hikes with either the R7 or R5 for wildlife photography here in Montana.
Isn't it great. It always excites and impresses me
