Happy 90th birthday to Cissy Houston 🎂♥ Singers in Order: Emily "Cissy" Houston, Anne Drinkard-Moss (mother of Felicia Moss-Eaton, BGV for Whitney), Larry Drinkard, Lee Drinkard Warrick (Dionne and DeeDee Warwick's mother), and Marie Drinkard-Epps.
The premier gospel singing family. Mahalia Jackson was quite fond of them. She brought them with her to Carnegie Hall in 1950 when they were much younger and she also had them join her at her first Newport Jazz Festival appearance in 1957. Mrs. Emily “Cissy” Drinkard Houston passed on her angelic tonality to her son Gary and her legendary daughter Whitney (forever in our hearts) Houston and we are grateful. This family is such a blessing to the world of music. Happy Birthday to the legendary Mrs. Cissy Houston - I love all that your voice added to the music of the 1950s-1990s, the Sweet Inspirations and all of the recordings you sang background on, especially those soprano ad libs on ‘Ain’t No Way’ with your friend, Lady Soul herself.
Well i wouldn't go that far as say cissy voice was amazing. Whitney was amazing but cissy was 4sure holding her own. But the harmony n that group was most definitely amazing which explains got her learning and education about how to sing and arrange harmony which lead her to b 1 of the most sought out background session singers n the music industry.
This is exactly why Whitney Houston is one of the greatest singers. With her God given talent and that family, there is no way she could have not been.
Mrs. Cissy Houston and that marvelous soprano! The Drinkard singers could sang! Whitney had no other choice, LoL. Also, Gary and his uncle have very similar tones.
Yes, she sang background for Elvis BUT did you know she also sang background for Dusty Springfield and the Drifters, and Nina Simone, and Aretha Franklin, and Dionne Warwick, and Jimi Hendrix, and David Bowie, and The Rascals, and Roberta Flack, and Jackie DeShannon, and the Neville Brothers, and Nancy Wilson, and Esther Phillips, and Connie Francis, and Average White Band, and Van Morrison, and Paul Simon, and Herbie Mann, and Burt Bacharach, Chaka Khan, and Bette Midler, and Luther Vandross, and Whitney Houston, and Beyonce' just to name a FEW?
Was miss mariah carey born yet? Or what about miss aretha was she a artist during this time I thought miss aretha started in the 1970s right with rock steady her first song!!!
The technique is 85% the same. It’s the grainy texture of her voice that throws everyone off. If she sung in a more pleasant way then she’d sound like Terry Ellis.
: I believe this was taped early on in Cissy Houston's pregnancy [probably late Winter or the beginning of Spring 1963]. Toward the end of her pregnancy, Cissy left The Drinkard Singers to form the Sweet Inspirations group. Peace and love...
Love to hear the Drinkard family sing. LOVE Cissy. She doesn’t get enough flowers IMO. I love her solo projects, her BGV on several artists works, and her leads on other artists works. ❤️💫✨

This was recorded during the birth of Whitney, and that shows indeed that Teresa graves is her actual birth mother and plus there are no specific evidence or pictures of cissy being pregnant with Whitney
Depending on when this was recorded, Momma Cissy could've just given birth to Whitney or could've been pregnant here. The singers are (in order of first appearance): Emily "Cissy" Houston, Anne Drinkard-Moss (mother of the late Felicia Moss-Eaton, early BGV for Whitney), Larry Drinkard, Lee Drinkard Warrick (Dionne Warwick's mom), and Marie Drinkard-Epps.

This is a historical moment! Even watching through my media sources is priceless! Yes indeed, I see why Whitney Houston was special, and had singing skills like no others! Family, family and family! I miss Whitney but play her in my car...like a lot!
Women generally do not start "showing" pregnancy until they are 3-4 months pregnant, and women of this generation wouldn't be "showing" pregnancy in public as it was not socially acceptable. Cissy is wearing a large robe, so we don't know what she looks like underneath. Lastly, the tape is listed as 1963; this recording could have also taken place after Whitney was born. Cissy's not "showing" pregnancy does not negate her being Whitney's mother.
The Teresa Graves theory is 100% FALSE. There is also a Dionne Warwick theory which would make more sense but we have no proof of either. Cissy is Whitney’s legal mother.
