It is THRILLING to hear this by the wonderful Drinkards after all these many years. I have been searching for the Gospel Live at Newport record to no avail. Thank you VERY MUCH for posting this. What an upper!
I'd been searching for this album for over 23 years. One day at the flea market in Amsterdam l found it to my great surprise for 50 cents!!! Never will l forget that sunny spring day in 1989! Same here, the live at Newport l never found, but a friend has it. 'That's enough' is from that album, not the one pictured here.
Judy Clay was still a few months off her 20th birthday when this was recorded. Dunno about anyone else, but I wasn't doing anything this fantastic when I was 19. Thanks for a fantatic post! GO JUDY!!!!!
@@adonaiyah2196 She was Judy Guirons back then, later known as Judy Clay. It is a well known fact. She lived with the Drinkards while she was just a teen.
t is the Wrong sleeve, the music is from a live at Newport Album on Verve, not the RCA album pictured, which was the first black Gospel LP ever released and is a studio lp. The Verve lp has one side by the Drinkards and the other side a choir..
@@boleary100 You're right. I have the rca album, french issue with this photo but in black and white. I've seen/heard the live at Newport album at a friends house with 'that's enough' on it. I thought her name was Guions, not Guirions. Judy was Sylvia Shemwell's sister, who sang with the Sweet Inspirations later, simular voice as Judy. Never knew it was the first black gospel album. Thanks for the information.
Wow! Love it! I thought Dorothy Love Coates & Original Gospel Harmonettes did it first in 1956 but either way, BOTH of these groups sound outstanding! Even today in 2010 you can still hear groups sing "That's Enough."
IM GETTING BAPTISED THIS MONTH ✝️HALLELUJAH, AMEN , PRAISED GOD BLESS JESUS NAME, IM THANKFUL THAT HE'S GONA HEAL ME ! I GOT JESUS & THATS ENOUGH WILL BE ONE OF MY BLESSING SONGS ✝️🙏📿❤️🌹
I do believe you get an A for that. They are by far one of my personal favorites for many years. We sent to see them at the Apollo in NY and walked from 125th st back to 42nd st still caught up with their performance. Judy laid on the stage singing Sweet Hour Of Prayer. Wow!! good old days.
How great are my enemies i hope jesus can deliver me from them all and keep me on the straight and narrow in the name of jesus Christ who loved the world before I was born and that's my proud point
@@TheLanard Check out their recording of "After It's All Over" I Believe Lee is the 1st lead and Rebbie is the 2nd lead. If you listen closely, you will hear Dionne in her voice
Well we do know lee is a lyric soprano. Deedee talked about it in a interview and how her mom Was offered a scholarship to Julliard for voice as a lyric soprano. So im assuming she had a light and high voice
No.. they were her mother, and her mother's sisters and one of her brothers. Whitney's grandma died when Cissy was 5 so she was never part of the Drinkard singers & neither was Dionne.. But you are correct, this is Whitney and Dionne's family
David Todd Singleton Whitney's Grandmother wasn't in the group. She passed before they became the Drinkard Singers proper. Cissy was young when her mom died.
Im singing this to myself after finding myself in temporary accommodation well theres always someone bringing me down cussing me out disrespecting me being mean
Hey!!! my mom has been looking for the album this song is from for YEARS. the album is called The Drinkard Singers And The Back Home Choir at Newport It is from the Newport folk festival 1957. I am very keen on finding this ultra out of print album for my mom.... what chance is there you could upload the other tracks and send us the mp3s? the main other song she wants to hear is walk all over God's heaven i'll be your best friend!!! bless Elisha
REST IN POWER CISSY HOUSTON Blessings and HUGS! 👑💜

@@adonaiyah2196 because Judy Clay sings this solo. She's the girl in the middle.

Dionne Warwick’s family simply outstanding
Lee (her mother) is the sister of Cissy (Whitney Houston's mom)

This is a Dorothy Love Coates composition. So it's flattering that the lead delivers it in a style that's quite similar to DLC's.
Its very similar i was just reading jacobs blessings and l heard the first time about judah being a cub a lion ive heard but a CUB ive never heard
Both great versions indeed!
Doing shopping listening to this while having an induced cold very bracin
That's Cissy hitting them high notes,!
Boy, they SANGING!! 💜♫🔥
Its my great my pleasure to listen to this heart regulator and emancipation its incredible to listen to this

The bible is a library and its confusing to me when people say have you read the entire library
random question but does anyone know what Lee Drinkard sounded like?? im just taking a guess saying she started the beginning of the song
I'd love to know. I guess maybe she sounded like Dionne? Or vice versa.

These are Whitney Houston's relatives; Dionne Warwick, Sissy Houston, and many other cousins and grandma.

Dionne was a part-time member. She and Judy Clay broke away and started "The Gospellaires" with her sister Dee Dee and Judy's sister.
@@r.t.h251 Not many people know that Dionne and Whitney were cousins to Leotyne Price
Awesome!!

But is Judy Clay!

Is ur name Leon or elisha
@@adonaiyah2196 good question
I don"t think that's Elizabeth Kelly i in front but Judy Guions
This is Ms. Whitney Houston's family! And now we understand.
THAT IS JUDY CLAY IN FRONT>>
Yes she is! Cissy is second left. Her family name was Emily Drinkard then. She does some great solo's as well.
Is Dionne and DeeDee mother is 1st on the left correct?
She almost sounds like dot
Who's on the organ?
I think Nicky Drinkard.
