I love this list! After I upgraded to the X-T5, I got the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 and Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 and those two have become two of my most used lenses! ❤
Ya same! I try to provide good sample images when I can. I’ll give it a light edit as well just to show and inspire ppl who may have that gear that they can do it too.
Off topic: I recently dusted off my old, 56 1.2 Fuji lens, and was astounded at how accurately it focused on the XT5. The lens has been sitting on the shelf for years, since it wouldn’t focus that well. Well, I just am so excited and happy with this lens now, as I’m taking it out everywhere! For those who want a good portrait lens that’s cheaper than the new Fuji 56 1.2. The older 56 is in my opinion, a much better portrait lens than the new one - the new one is just too sharp, to clinical! If you can find one of these used, it will be a steal! 😝
Nice vid. I have that Sigma 18-50/2.8. But my fav lens is not on ur list - TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2. I just can’t bare to leave home without it mounted on my XT4. It’s clearly an inspired interpretation of the Zeiss C Sonnar T* 50mm f/1.5. If you read or watch reviews of these two lenses, the reviews sound nearly interchangeable. There are also some mechanical styling similarities. And both have similar star-shaped 10-blade aperture. But the TTArtisan costs < $100. This lens is just so nice to use and makes photos with just the right character for me. Quite a few others feel the same, but some people just don’t like the lens at all. I’ve also got a bunch of Fuji primes and zooms, as well as two Laowa lenses. But the TTArtisan keeps finding itself on my body!
It might be fun to try a fisheye lens for portraits. :) I'm thinking about ditching a few of Fuji's older lenses: 16-55, 10-24, 16 f/1.4... and see what's next on the roadmap.
I kinda like the old 85mm viltrox 1.8 mark 1 still. Its got some problems but you can find one for 250 dollars or so. Pretty great value for starting event photographers. Im upgrading to the 75mm 1.2 though. The Viltrox 23mm 1.4 is also a cheapish fun walk around lens. Got problems shooting into the light and isnt the most contrasty lens but overall nice option for street and some vibey events where you don't need top iq.
Since my camera is selected thanks to you, now on to lenses I have selected - Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Does the 30mm here equivalent to 50mm? My primary purpose is to shoot portraits and ecommerce clothing photography and product photography. Above are fine for this? Plus i'll really appreciate it if you can recommend a good flash also?
Dang, you are putting content out like a “cool” kid. Non-stop. 😂 I tried to be cool and bought my first manual focus lens. I bought the TTartisan’s 50mm f/1.2 lens. It is a great lens especially for the price, $112. The build is nice, the aperture ring click is great. It is sharp in the center and great bokeh. It also made me learn how to use the focus assist on my x-e4. But I pretty much forgot about it once I bought the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2.
I know you said before you hadn't used the Sigma 56mm F/1.4, but i'd still test it, love mine I don't have GAS though. I rarely pull the trigger on new gear just because (even if i want to i talk myself out of it). I'm a studio, mostly portrait photographer, kind of don't need more than my XF 35mm F/1.4 and Sigma 56mm F/1.4. I do use the 16-80mm F/4 for other things (or if the 35mm is not wide enough) and the 10-24mm F/4 (but that is mostly for video on a gimble (due to the internal zoom). If the 35mm was my only lens I would manage. The only lens I am looking for really (and not looking that hard) is a 23mm with autofocus and with no (or close to no) focus breathing for video work. But the 10-24 really does well so not pulled trigger on either of the Fuji 23mm yet
Try the Samyang 75mm F1.8. I don't think it is optically as good as the Viltrox F1.2, but it weighs 413g less. Yes, almost 1lb less, and is shorter than the 33mm F1.4.
Hei, I am having my eyes on the Sigma 18-50 2.8 to replace the new x-t5 kit lens because of the horrible 4.8 ending aperture. But what keeps me back is that they only seal the mount and the rest of the lens seems to be not weather resistant, because I am most of the year in south east asia - and I already had mold inside some lenses, not a nice experience. How is you impression? Is it really an alternative in the tropics, where weather sealing might be a big point?
Your stacking comments are funny. I recently starting using my viltrox 85 and fuji 16 80 f4. In comparing them, I noticed a significant difference with contrast. The Viltrox is the winner. Can you recommend other third party auto lenses with high contrast? I am using an Xt3...Thanks
Don't worry man, you are gonna get in that 'freaking cool kids' list pretty soon, a little nerdy but cool, for sure ... keep making these great videos.
Im torn between the Viltrox 75 1.2 and the Samyang 75 1.8 which is much smaller, lighter and almost the same price as the Viltrox. It would be great if Samyang sent you a 75 1.8 to test. Thanks for another informative and cleverly humorous video!
I have the top two lens on this list! The viltrox 75 f1.2 and sigma 18-50mm f2.8. What other focal length you can recommend? I would like to start shooting outdoor portrait photography.
For autofocusing lens anything with an F1.4 is good. If you want you can try manual focusing lens and use a F0.95 lens those allow in alot of light but it can be tricky to manual focus but its fun nonetheless.
Hey I have the 18-55 and want to start doing video with the xh2s should i sell it and get the 18-35 1.8 canon fringer combo? let me know your thoughts!

If the Viltrox 75 f/1.2 was a fuji lens, they'd probably charge like $1200 for it.
It's just crazy value for money.
Exactly! It’s so good!

Great video! But I have a question. Why should you buy a 3rd party 27mm 2.8 lens when the kit lens (18-55mm) does f2.8? I'm a beginner 😅
Some people like using one focal length. And for the compactness you get from using a pancake lens

the xf23mm f1.4 or the xf33mm f1.4
if you had to choose between the viltrox 75mm f1.2 or the fuji 90mm f2 for street/nature photography. which would you go with?
the 90mm is magic! the 75mm could be a bit more versatile cuz of its wider focal length.
