- She’s just 22, yet she manages to captivate audiences all over the world: the Catalan trombone player and singer Rita Payés. Payés breaks down barriers between classical music and fado, bolero or a simple lullaby. This old soul with the heart of a lion certainly was one of the highlights of Music Meeting Festival 2022 in Nijmegen.

Rita's mother is a monster. She knocked her solo out of the park. Now we know where rita got her incredible talent. Elizabeth, you are a fine musician. You have done a wonderful job, and Rita, you honor your mother in the nicest way. We will all look forward to your child's arrival on the stage.

@@PaulHirsh : I guess you know, she is one of the finest guitar players on the planet. I guess you know as well, that music always is a team effort. Maybe they decided not to play as 'Rita and friends' but as a team with equal members, together with bass an drums, which you obviously forgot to mention at all. Obviously, Rita has a stronger role, but she is not the only musician on stage. It is a matter of the musicians decisions, where to put weight.
So, I guess, it is not yours to judge what is right or wrong.
Rita with her band swing the doors open to the human soul, to happiness, solemnity, sadness, joyfulness, hope, and love. This music embodies the true essence of life. Thank you for sharing it with the world.
Her mother (classical guitar) and she are so bloody amazing. Her songbook is so damn deep! I just love her work.

Rita can't be described adequately with mere words. Her entire being is filled with the essence of what makes music magical. It is almost as if she were a vessel that allows the music to flow from another dimension. It is wonderful to hear "world music" such as this presented with creativity and feeling, which is what music should be, also including original and familiar works from various regions. Her mastery of languages, styles, musical instruments, and her own unique, soulful voice are all captivatingly wonderful. The last piece moved me to tears. This band is amazing.
This 'vessel' did a lot of work to enable music flow through it.

Rita is the youngster at 22. Venezuelan Juan is around 40. Elizabeth is Rita's Mum and Mr Fumero is an established musician.

He achieved world fame touring with celebrated Catalan jazz pianist, Tete Montoliu. He was also a screen actor. His films include: Always Yours (2007), Thanks for the Tip (1997) and Set menys set (1997). His daughter, Lucia, is an accomplished jazz pianist/composer who performs regularly with Rita. I would love to know what album he was on that received a Grammy nomination. I was excited to find out that he played with Gato Barbieri at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Sure wish they would tour the US! Specifically the West Coast.
I think all of the girl singers from the SAJB should get together and go on tour. And also do a video and album of the tour and concerts. I don’t think there has ever been a jazz band…or any band with so many talented young ladies.
