Let’s just start to be honest with the newest generation of teens ,,,,THERE IS NO SOCIAL SECURITY when you grow old .. Stop spending money on $6 dollar coffee and demand cheaper rent and cheaper everything
85% of my SS is taxable, and I'm not working. Just have a small pension and interest from CDs, etc. And I'm 73! And not wealthy! I had to laugh when he said people making 600K were the ones paying taxes on SS. (HA! Try less than a tenth of that!)
@LalaMama272 Look at the chart at 5:00 minute mark of the video. The asterisk at the bottom basically says this, from IRS Publication 915 (from 2023): Base amount. Your base amount is: • $25,000 if you are single, head of household, or qualifying surviving spouse; • $25,000 if you are married filing separately and lived apart from your spouse for all of 2023; • $32,000 if you are married filing jointly; or • $0 if you are married filing separately and lived with your spouse at any time during 2023. So, it appears there is no benefit of filing taxes separately (and living together) when SS or SSDI benefits are involved.

Is it a good idea to get an extra medical insurance for including some dental and vision on top of medical- I have part a & b but since I have many medication n doctors I thought it would be good, any advise!
@LalaMama272 Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers a limited number of outpatient prescription drugs under certain conditions. My understanding is these are special drugs for certain treatment/conditions. Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage that subsidizes the costs of prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries. It covers most outpatient prescription drugs. I would suggest verifying what plan covers the the medications you may need.

Didn't both our Presidential candidates say they were going to eliminate federal taxes from Social Security? We have to hold their feet to the fire on this, or this will be the last you hear of it.
I applied for disability in 2022 I was told I had to wait 2 years before I became eligible I will be turning 61 in November do I automatically receive Medicare and how much will I have to pay for medicare
You’ll automatically get Medicare after you’ve been on disability for two years. No matter how old you are. They’ll send you your card when you’re eligible. It’s $175 (approx) out of your disability check each month. And if you add an advantage plan, that’s extra.

It also depends on what you're wanting to file for. You aren't eligible for Divorced spouse benefits because you're still legally married. He has to be collecting benefits before you can draw SS off of him. And he's still alive so, it doesn't sound like at this time you are able to collect anything.

Good evening Ed. I received SSDI AND SSI. Started in 2021. The three years I've asked for the W4 form In, 22, 23, and 24. I never received the document(s).I'm a little nervous that I might be audited. My yearly income is less than $24,000. Am I in trouble with the U.S. government?
@jomehi6863 First, SSI is not taxable. If you only receive SSDI & SSI you won't owe taxes. W4 form is to tell your employer how much tax you want withdrawn. W2 is the summary at the end of the year which comes from your employer. SSA does not send out W2's, they sends out SSA-1099s. If you don't receive it you should be able to access (or request it) from your SSA account. ssa.gov/myaccount/replacement-SSA-1099.html

My comment is not about taxes, but about Part D. I received my notice of changes from my provider. Changes are as follows: Premium will still be $0 for me for 2025. The prescription drug deductible went from $545 to $590. Copay doubled for some drugs from $5 to $10 and from $10 to $15 depending on the tier. Also new: Medicare Prescription Payment Plan: spreads the cost of your drugs in monthly payments throughout the year. Not too bad, I say.

Thank you for the tax bracket explanation on SS.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! 😮
You're welcome!
If my income is 30,000 and I don't owe the IRS. Do I still need to file my taxes. I'm on ssi and I have a union retirement.
Tricare can also get Humana which will not cause problem with tricare.
That's not what they told us for Tricare for life.
It is better to file taxes separately from your working spouse if you’re on SSDI & he’s not and works full time?

I have absolutely no faith/optimism in this happening, no matter who gets elected.
Congress has to do that
The Republicans are going to eliminate more than your taxes on Social Security. They are going to end the whole darned program, along with Medicare.
